The Biggest Lie Ever Told About Money 🤔

Rob Moore argues that money does make you happy, contrary to popular belief. He draws on his 16-year study and personal shift from financial scarcity to wealth, pointing to concrete gains: private school for his kids, charitable giving, luxury travel, and hiring a driver to free his time. Money buys time, he says, the most valuable thing.

So I believe this is the biggest lie ever told about money. Now, there's a lot of people out there talking about money that either have none, so how are they qualified, or they have so much that it doesn't matter to them anymore. And I've been studying money for 16 years. I wrote the UK's best-selling book on money. I also have a podcast called Money And so my research suggests that the greatest, the biggest lie ever told about money is that money does not make you happy. I believe that is one of the greatest lies. In fact, I might do a series on the greatest lies about money. Another one is the, um, it's not all about the money, or, um, money is not important. These are great lies when it comes to money. Now, money is the greatest story that humankind have ever created, because every human being believes money. Every single human being believes in money. We exchange our products, our services, our time, our energy for money. Money is the universal thing that we all trust and we all believe in. And even the odd skeptic that would say that they wouldn't, they actually do, because they use it to buy, they use it to sell, and they exchange their time, their energy, their passion, their love, their products and their services for money. So to say that money isn't important And to say that money doesn't make you happy is the greatest lie you've ever been told about money, or the greatest lies. So, um, someone has said here, the things that money provide make you happy. Yeah, and money provides them. Money is an energy transfer, so it transfers things and products and services and emotions and energy. So let me ask you this. I know a lot of people are going to disagree with this, and this is fine because everyone's entitled to my opinion. But let me ask you this: if all things were equal and the only one difference was you had more money or less money, would you be happier or sadder or more depressed with more or less money? Because for you to accurately be able to say if money does in fact make you happier or less happy, you would have to have all other variables equal. Now, of course, if you are depressed and you have more money, that could accelerate and exaggerate your depression. If you have addictions and voids and holes in your soul, of course. But the only way you can do an accurate split test of the meaning of anything and the utility of anything is for all other things to be equal. So taking everything equal, would you rather have a nice car or a car that couldn't even get you to work? Would you rather live in a nice house or a tent? Would you rather travel first class or cattle class? All other things equal, because that's the only way you can accurately test or suggest if money does indeed make you happy. So I believe that money exaggerates your traits. So if everything else is equal, more money means more freedom, more time, more luxury. And I believe those things do make you happier. We all deserve wealth. No one deserves to be poor and broke. No one was born to be poor or broke. We were all born to be the most self-actualized, um, highest potential version of ourselves. So I believe that the greatest lie told about money is that it doesn't make you happy. I believe it freaking does, all things being equal. So let me know what you think in the comments. Do it now. And also, please share this because there's so much misinformation around money. Do you know the two main types of people who say that money doesn't make you happy? Broke people and billionaires. Broke people don't even know. How can broke people say money doesn't make you happy? Because most broke people are unhappy. And not all, of course, but most, because you can't do the things that you want to do if you're broke. Let's say you don't agree with me. You don't agree that money doesn't make you happy. Well, imagine that you're broke. Imagine that you want to do the things that make you happy, but you're broke, so you can't. Because people say the best things in life are free. I say the best things in life are expensive. The best things in life, for example, are spending time with inspiring, amazing people who love you and who you love. And to have all the time to be able to spend with all those people costs money, because your mortgage has got to be paid and your bills have got to be paid. Wouldn't it be such an amazing thing to live a life traveling the whole world and seeing the whole world? I don't think anyone could disagree that seeing the whole world wouldn't be a great gift. That is freaking expensive. Do you know Mahatma Gandhi and Mother Teresa traveled the world helping others? And do you know that was really expensive to finance that? The trains, the travel— there were millions needed. To finance and send Mahatma Gandhi and Mother Teresa around the world. So what do you think about this? Let me know in the comments. Would you agree that if you had lots of money and you could do charity and philanthropic ventures, that would make you feel really good and that would make you happier? I believe being able to give lots of money away makes you happier than not being able to afford to give any money away. Therefore, more money does make you more happy if you use it well. So quick summary, by the way, please share this Whether you agree or disagree, let's get the discussion going. The reason I believe that the greatest lie ever told about money is that it doesn't make you happy is, number one, the only people that say that money doesn't make you happy are broke people and billionaires. Well, billionaires have got so much that it doesn't matter, so of course they would say that. Um, and zeroaires and broke people don't have any money, so how can they judge? They do not have the credibility or the experience to tell you that money does or doesn't make you happy. Now I've been skint and I've been rich. I am rich, said with humility of course, and I am happier with more money. I can send my kids to private school. I can give random donations. I've just raised tens of thousands for someone who's going through some troubling times right now, and that does give me a better life. I can travel in more, more luxury. For example, you can have a driver and you can be driven to various locations and you can do work or, um, things that you're passionate about in the back of the car rather than having to drive yourself so you can actually make more of a difference. What money gives you is the gift of time. Money can buy you time, and time is the greatest gift. And having more time and using that time well surely is going to make you happier. This is absolute bullshit that money doesn't make you happy. Or at least people say that money doesn't make you happy, therefore you 'You shouldn't make more money because you're not going to be any more happy.' Don't agree, don't agree. Not my experience. So let me know what you think. When all things are equal, you can do more, be more, and have more with money. And whilst I do agree that money in isolation, in a void of nothingness, of course money itself in isolation doesn't make you happy. But all things in your life equal, more money means more travel, more freedom, more choice to spend your time where you want, with who you want, when you want. And that costs a lot of money. It cost millions to send Mahatma Gandhi and Mother Teresa around the world to do good. Robert Maxwell was a big donor of Mother Teresa. She literally saw herself as a virtuous cleanser and launderer. Of money. Now, do you see some wealthy people who aren't happy? Yes. But do you see some broke people who aren't happy? Yes. Let me know what you think. Hit the share button. I'm going to do a little series on the greatest lies ever told around money. Be careful who you listen to. Be careful who you get your information from. Let me ask you this: would you rather have a £100 laptop that doesn't work and takes 20 minutes to load or a lovely £2,000 Apple Mac that works quick and is seamless? Would you rather have an old phone that you can't even get on the internet or the brand new iPhone 13? Let me know what you would rather have, by the way. And if you don't risk anything, you risk everything, please share this. People need help right now when it comes to money. The cost of living is going up and up and up, inflation up and up and up. We've got COVID, we've got wars, we've got Putin, you know, we've got crazy stuff going on. People need help. And the best way that you can live an inspired, meaningful life is to be wealthy and abundant and make so much that you can give a lot away. And you know, people say that the best things in life are free. I'm going to say that the best things in life are expensive. Because you need money to finance the things that make you happy that are free. Time is surely our greatest gift, and if you want more time, you need to be able to pay your bills and your overheads and your expenses, which means you need to not have to work, which means you have to have recurring and passive income. Don't get this the wrong way around. Don't buy into the rhetoric from broke people or billionaires who aren't in touch with reality when it comes to money. Thanks for tuning in. Hit the share button. Let me know what you think. Does more or less money make you happier or unhappy? And I'll do a little series on this for you. Cheers. Hit the share button. Bye. If you don't risk anything, you risk everything.
