Short transcript of a conversation (Rylee Meek and another speaker) about how ubiquitous smartphones and short-form video (YouTube Shorts) fragment attention and interfere with spiritual practices like prayer and Bible reading. The speakers note they avoid reading scripture on phones because of distractions and urge awareness of interruptions during devotional time.
But what you're saying is so true. Because we're so busy, the phones are always on. We're interrupted. We make ourselves interruptible.
Right.
Even in prayer, even when I'm reading, it's like, my phone's over here. And it's like, yeah, right. And it's like that, that. That takes your focus off of just soaking, like, in the presence of God. Yeah, right.
That's why I never read the Bible on my phone. There's too many distractions.
Yeah, too many.
Even now with YouTube and shorts and subscribe to our YouTube channel if you're. If you haven't already. But even with shorts, as soon as you open YouTube, a short pops up and it's just something that is of your interest. You're like, oh, okay. And then you just start scrolling. You're like, oh, wait a second.
I wanted to listen.
To the Rob McCoy's message last week. You know, it's like an hour into it, you don't even remember why you open YouTube. So it gets you just like Instagram and Facebook does.
