Rylee Meek, speaking in a first-person YouTube video, describes a long-standing internal conflict reconciling his Christian faith with ambitions in business. He recounts growing up in South Dakota surrounded by self-professed Christians who were 'broke, broken and defeated,' which led him to believe being a Christian meant poverty and defeat; at age eight he experienced a formative moment where he felt God tell him he would make a lot of money.

But from the outside, looking in, from the world's perspective, I heard this a lot, that it just, it must be nice, right? And little did they know that I was so broken inside, partly because I had, I didn't understand what it really meant to be a Christian because I struggled with this just concept of like, could I even be, could I even be a good Christian, right, quote, unquote, good Christian and still pursue business, still pursue making money. Could I be even successful? Because every Christian that I knew, for the most part, especially growing up in South Dakota, every, every Christian that I, that I knew, right against, I'm just stating this as like self professed Christian, they were broke, they were broken and they were defeated. And so I developed this mindset that in order to be a, a Christian, I had to be broke, broken and defeated. And I struggled with, I felt in my being like, I remember at the age of eight having just this moment where I just, I, like I was walking in my driveway at the age of 8 years of age and I just felt God, like speak to me. And I didn't even know, I didn't know any, like God was just some guy in the sky right at this time. But I just felt like, okay, you are going to, you're going to make a lot of money.
