Sahara Rose talks with Angie and Mike Lee about CBD for anxiety, pain, and digestion. They discuss product quality, dosage, and why education matters in a growing market.
Namaste, it's Sahara Rose. And welcome to the Highest Self podcast, a place where we discuss what makes you your soul's highest evolvement. I am super excited for this episode because it is about a topic that I see about, hear about, read about everywhere. And if you are in the wellness world in 2019, then you probably have to. And that topic is CBD. Now, I'm going to be honest. When I first heard about CBD several years ago, I was very apprehensive. I'm someone who does not smoke marijuana or use it at all. It just doesn't vibe with me. And I was afraid that it would be too intense, it would be too strong, that it just wouldn't jive well with my body. So I didn't try it for many, many years. And I kept hearing about its healing benefits, seeing friends with anxiety and all sorts of issues and CBD really healing them. So I decided to give it a try. And I did not get high. Nothing happened. And I just felt a little bit. The first couple times, I just felt a little bit more calm, bit tired. And then I learned there are many different kinds of cbd. The one I had had at first had THC in it and just, just began diving into this world of cannabinoids and seeing what benefits that it has. And I mean, we're still at the very, very beginning of this beautiful movement towards shifting as a society to using plants as medicine. And I think with cbd, just because it has such a large array of healing benefits, it's something that can. Can be really used by people of all walks of life, which we talk about in this episode, and provide them with beautiful healing. So I wanted to bring on Angie and Mike. Angie's a really good friend of mine. She's been on Highest Self podcast before. And I aired my interview that I did on her podcast, which was amazing. We did it last year. Her, she's all about marketing and telling your story and building your brand based off of your true core values. And she has an incredible live event that I spoke at last year called Pace to be Brave. And I was really excited to see her venture into this whole other category, which is her soul CBD company. So I wanted to have her on with her brother, who's a top three boxing champion in the world, to talk about their journey starting the CBD company, the benefits of it, what is it for? How can it help us with anxiety, digestion, all sorts of things? Because they're the experts in this topic. And I wanted to bring the very best to you. So without further ado, let's welcome Angie and Mike Lee to the Highest Self Podcast. And before we get started, check out these brands that make Highest Self Podcast possible. I'd love to introduce you to the tea brand I've been loving recently, Vadum Teas. The tea starts in the mountains of the Himalayas and within hours of harvest are packed at their tea facility and shipped all around the world. I'm personally indulging in their Master Tea Assorted pack which contains four 15 loose leaf blends, black, oolong, green and white. They pack their teas in single serve premium pyramid tea bags so you can have the convenience of loose leaf tea anywhere. Not just this, but they've managed to eliminate all middlemen from the sourcing process, thereby retaining all earnings in the source region for the farmers. These teas are fair trade, organic and pesticide free and they benefit the farmers directly, which I deeply care about. Additionally, every time you pick up a pack of Vadum teas, a part of the revenue goes towards educating the tea girl's children, which makes it all even more worthwhile. Oprah just listed as one of her top favorite things, so I take Oprah's word for it. This episode is brought to you by Four Sigmatic. Four Sigmatic is an incredible mushroom elixir company. I proudly drink their elixirs every single day. My favorite is their chai mix. It is insanely delicious. I quit chocolate cold turkey and what helped me was drinking this chai mix every day. And best of all, they use stevia to sweeten it. And there's no sugars like the chai lattes you'll find at Starbucks or wherever else. And the mushrooms are really good for balancing your hormones, helping heal adrenal fatigue, healing your body on an adaptogenic level. So adaptogens really kind of relate to what your body needs. So if you are high, stress will bring you down. If you need more energy, it will bring you up. And that's what's so amazing about adaptogens. They adapt to your body. And mushrooms, medicinal mushrooms, have a lot of adaptogenic properties. So you can head over to their website, 4sigmatic.com F O U R S I G M A T-I C.com Sahara I have a little shop up there with my favorite four Sigmatic products, so you can try it out. Hello. We're excited. Thank you so much, Sahara.
Yeah, thank you.
Well, the first question I would love to ask both of you is, what makes you your highest self? So, Angie, we will start with you.
Ooh. What makes me my highest self? I feel as if this answer changes a lot, but right now, what makes me feel my highest self is connection. I would say right now, I'm in such a busy point in life, Mike and I both are, with starting companies and our careers and our brands, and I think it always comes back to connection when I'm just connecting with humans, and that's what makes me feel the most alive.
Beautiful. How about you, Mike?
She stole my answer.
To your family.
I had that queued up. Honestly, I mean, for me, it's when I connect with people. I've had the opportunity, whether it's in sports or business, to be in front of a lot of people and connect with them on stage or whatever type of event it is. And I love that human connection and when you connect with people, even on a one on one basis. So I have the exact same answer.
And I think most people and their truth have that same answer, and we come up with different things to fill in that void that only connection can bring us.
Yeah, absolutely. Well, especially with the careers that you and I have, being podcasters, being digital influencers, it's so behind the camera and so in front of a screen or a mic all day. And I'm realizing now more than ever the importance of actually truly connecting with people in person, which is why I have a live event and just really want to actually connect with people off the computer.
So. Very true. And both of you kind of made this transition from your own personal careers. Angie's being this marketing guru and Mike's being a world renowned boxer to now starting this incredible CBD company. So I would love to hear both of your journeys on how you went from your respective careers into soul cbd. Mike, we can start with you.
Yeah, so it was a long journey, but I've been pro now for a while. I got signed right out of college, and I'm currently 21 0, ranked third in the world. And I'm really excited that I have a huge fight coming up July 20th. I'm fighting at the MGM grand. In Las Vegas for a world title. It's the culmination of years of hard work and pain and being in the hospital after fights with Angie by my side. And really just a dream come true for me to fight on a world stage and go after what I love. But it was really through that pain that I started getting connected to alternative and more natural sources of healing. Obviously, as an athlete, you walk into these training centers or doctors are so willing to just write prescriptions. And nothing against Western medicine, I'm all for it. And I think in a lot of ways, especially in emergencies, it has its place. But so many of my buddies who are athletes, whether they're in the NFL or they're fighters, world class athletes, have issues with painkillers. And I myself was one of those people. I was dealing with a lot of pain, and I actually got diagnosed in the middle of my career with an autoimmune disease known as ankylosing spondylitis. So I was 12 and 0 and felt like I was on top of the world and winning and undefeated. And then, boom, I spent two years in and out of hospitals and was on eight different medications, and I was sick of it. I was sick of how I felt, and I couldn't even fight anymore. And it was really that journey that started to lead me towards healing through my mindset, healing through diet and lifestyle. And I went from eight medications all the way down to one. And it was really through that journey that I discovered cbd. And it was a few years ago that I started taking it. And when wada, the World Anti Doping Agency, approved it, I immediately called my lawyer and said, I want to spread this message. And WADA is who I get drug tested by. And so once I knew that I was taking something that had 0thC and it was only helping me, I started to take CBD sparingly and then every single day. And I was trying everything I could, and I noticed that I was calmer and my inflammation was lower. I just had a general sense of well being that I'd never felt. And it was all natural and coming from a plant. And I remember calling angieliterally where I was when I called her in the car, and I was like, you've got to try this stuff. And it's been helping me and it's not a prescription and there's no side effects for me. And we need to spread this message to other people. And so it's interesting that, similar to your story, Sahara, my story is a journey of pain and turning that pain into purpose. And I feel that I've really done that not only with speaking with people, trying to help them get out of pain, but really the mission of Soul CBD is to help people get out of pain and really have alternative measures outside of prescription painkillers and opioids and all these other medications that have so many side effects. So that might have been a little long, but that's my story of how I got into this. And we're pushing ahead. And we've been about 1112 months, so less than a year the business has been alive, and it's really resonating with people of all demographics. And I'm so proud that we're starting something that's helping so many people.
That is so beautiful. And I think it's so important for people to hear, especially from a man's perspective and an athlete's perspective, because so many people deal with chronic pain, whether it's from working out or from a health issue that happened, autoimmune, et cetera. And it's almost like you just have to deal with it or take something that is highly addictive, like an opiate, and numb it. And I just know so many people affected by this crazy opiate epidemic that we're experiencing, and the fact that nature has provided us with something that is not addictive, that is natural, that is even approved, that, you know, probably the drug testing is so intensive, especially as a professional boxer, and the fact that this is not a drug in any way, and I really want that to be the clear message of this podcast, that CBD is not a drug and it is a plant medicine, just like ashwagandha is a plant medicine, just like turmeric is a plant medicine. And I think there's so much fear just because it is connected to the marijuana plant. So you guys are just the perfect people that can help break it down for us. And I'm really excited to get all nitty gritty into cbd. But before that, Angie, I know Mike's journey has been more from the physical, and your journey has been a lot with the mental. So can you share with us how you got into cbd?
Yeah. I've always been someone who's dealt with a lot of anxiety in my life. I'm a very high energy, fast brain type, a female entrepreneur who is always on the go. And anxiety has been my lesson through this life so far, and it's taught me a lot. And I have always been very holistic. And I was strongly against, similar to Mike. I really didn't want to be on anything that was a prescription. And so I was constantly looking for things. I was living in Chicago at the time, and Mike and a friend mentioned CBD to me. I started trying it out, and I loved it. And so for me, it was the typical high energy, very, very busy person. And I know a lot of entrepreneurs are listening to this who are dealing with anxiety, and they want something that they can take that's not going to have crazy side effects and will allow you to actually work and function all day without feeling like you're out of it or you're numb or you're a zombie. So, yeah, mine was definitely from really, really bad anxiety and panic attacks that were debilitating. And so I'm so, so grateful that we found it.
And it's amazing because you produce so much. I mean, I spoke at your live event this past year. Pays to be Brave, which was incredible. Like, you're just a powerhouse. Everything you create turns into gold, and you still suffer from anxiety. And I think people think like, oh, well, once you have your shit figured out, it's going to be gone. And that's not the case. So I love that you're speaking about that. This is a real issue that no matter where you are in your career, you can still be suffering from until you take the steps to deal with it.
Yeah. I actually argue that the most successful people are the people who deal with anxiety and panic and stress and people don't know. And I use humor to cope, and I have a very positive mindset, but it doesn't mean that I don't have those days or those moments where I really, really feel it, especially in the morning. I mean, let's be fully transparent. This week has been crazy, and I've felt it every single morning when I wake up. This heaviness and this sense of, oh, my God, I'm behind before the day has even started. And I've really been relying on our CBD because that's really the only thing that I can can go to, you know, that feels safe and I feel comfortable taking so good.
So we are living in a massive CBD craze. I feel like it's everywhere, but I feel like a lot of people don't know what it is. So, Mike, can you share with us what CBD actually is?
Yes. So, cbd, known as cannabidiol, it's found in either the hemp plant or the marijuana plant. So it's under the umbrella of the cannabis industry. Everything that we source from is from the hemp plan. So essentially, the hemp plant has under 0.3% THC in the entire plant. But we go beyond that to only extract the CBD isolate. So, for instance, on our website and our deliveries, you can see we do third party lab testing where you can see exactly what the levels of CBD and the zero levels of THC are. But what CBD does is it activates the endocannabinoid system. And the endocannabinoid system is something that all human beings and mammals have. It's in the body, and we're learning more and more about it. Doctors and scientists have known about the endocannabinoid system for a long time, but we're just learning more these past few years about how CBD affects the CB1 and CB2 receptors. But in layman's terms, essentially, the endocannabinoid system affects the entire body. It affects the nervous system, it affects the digestive system. So it helps with everything from pain to inflammation to mostly calming anxiety. All across the board, it helps with sleep as well. So it is a little bit confusing because you do see some people that say, oh, it really helps me sleep. And then other people that love to take it in the morning, and it makes them clear and focused. Essentially what it's doing is it's calming the nervous system and putting the endocannabinoid system into homeostasis. So what that means is it's putting your body into what it should naturally be in. And essentially, when you're in homeostasis, you function better, you're sleeping better, everything is functioning better from top to bottom, whether it's your brain, your digestive system, your pain receptors, your nervous system. So CBD tends to be this little magic key that kind of helps get your body and endocannabinoid system into that regulatory homeostasis process. And that's why we're seeing so many people. That helps mostly with anxiety, sleep and pain. Those tend to be the. Are the three big ones right now. But we even have a dog line because we see a lot of dogs and cats that deal with separation anxiety, or there's some dogs out there that are getting old and they have joint pain. And the CBD really responds in their systems and their endocannabinoid systems as well. So that's kind of on a scientific, molecular level, what's happening? So, yeah, that's about it.
That is amazing. So I'd love to know why no thc? Why did you decide to take that out?
Well, for us, as a brand, I think that was really important because for me, I'm a professional athlete. And as we mentioned, I get drug tested a lot. So a lot of our audience right now ask questions like, will I get high? And is there THC in it? And the answer is no. I couldn't promote a product. I think, both contractually and also just personally, that I wasn't taking, and I wasn't going to take a product that had THC in it. Because at this level of my career, fighting in front of millions of people, the stakes are high. I can't be popping positive for drug tests. So I knew that what we had to have was the cleanest, purest CBD available. And I hesitate to. And I say that because I warn your audience that no matter what, if you want to try cbd, no matter what company you go with, make sure that it's extracted and grown here in the US and that they use the highest safety procedures. They have GMP compliant facilities, and most important, they use third party party lab verified testing. So we hire other companies to go out and test all of our batches. And that tends to be rare in this industry because right now it's kind of the wild, wild west. And you're getting people that are sourcing from all over. And there was just a big article out about 12 brands they found with high levels of pesticides and lower levels of CBD than they claim. So whoever you go with, and that's what we stand by. And obviously me as an athlete and Angie with her incredible audience, we couldn't get behind something that wasn't the purest, highest quality. And for us, maybe we do branch into THC down the line, I think that's definitely an option. But for us as who we are, as people, it's just. It didn't make sense. And I think our audience wanted it. Relief without feeling high and without the thc.
Yeah, very true. And I think a lot of people, what again makes them afraid is they think they're going to get high or they just don't want to have any connection to anything that could be hallucinogenic in any way. So I think you know something. And I, of course, have been having soul CBD for months now since Angie sent it to me. And you don't feel anything psychoactive, but you still feel more calm, which is really interesting because I think a lot of people are told that, well, CBD needs to have what I've heard, 10% THC to work. And that's actually not true.
Right. And that's actually a Common misconception. And it all depends on the quality of it. So there's something that's called the Entourage effect, that obviously people say that CBD can only be activated if there is THC in it. The studies just don't back that up yet. And while, listen, THC has its place, people have been smoking marijuana for years, thousands of years, and we are not against that whatsoever. It helps with pain, it helps with a lot of different things. But we are specifically sticking with the CBD and the CBD isolate just because we understand all the health benefits it brings and we don't want that psychoactive element. Like I said, maybe a year or two down the line, we open up to that world. But so there's nothing wrong with that. We don't want to get on here condemning thc, but just for us as people, that's kind of what we stick to. And we know that our CBD isolate is incredibly effective, incredibly strong, because we only source and partner with the highest grade farms in Kentucky and extraction processes. So that is kind of a common misconception. And there's a lot of that in this industry nowadays for sure.
And it definitely is the wild west, which is why it's important to, you know, go with companies where you actually can find the founder. You know, if it's just like some like, I don't know, made in China. Is there made in China CBD these days?
Everything, right?
And it's like, oh, God knows what's in there. And it's so important for anything health, wellness related because there is no governmental regulation to really trust that company and have people who've tried it too.
Yeah, and I know that was really important for Angie too. I mean, anybody that follows her journey knows that she's constantly. She's baby grandma and she's putting only the purest quality stuff in her body and she's eating healthy and she's even more hyper focused on that than what she's putting in her body and health sometimes than me, especially when I'm out of training camp, Mike will be at.
Chipotle and I'll be like, I'm at erewhon getting my $70 green juice with organic, locally sourced kales.
Yes, same. Say, when was the last time you got excited about sex? Sex is such an important component of our lives. I mean, it's literally where life came from. But so many of us rather be eating a snack than being the snack, if you know what I mean. This is where Woo comes in. Woo is an organic, all natural coconut oil lube made with coconut oil, vanilla essence, beeswax and stevia. It's antibacterial, free of toxins, and allows you to fully enjoy your experience, whether with a partner with your jade egg or crystal wand. So Angie, can you share with us how has it helped you with anxiety? Like, what do you feel? What is the difference on the days that you take CBD versus not?
What I love about CBD is, and I've heard many people say this too, who didn't know each other. So it's interesting to receive this feedback. Everybody's body is different, but what I've noticed is I notice when I'm not on it more than when I necessarily am. So I notice it as a buildup in my system and so I'll make sure that I'm on it consistently each day and a week or two will go by and I'll feel as if I was able to get through the days or I was able to get through a stressful situation easier. So I'LL use it on a consistent basis like that. Or if I am acutely in a situation where I feel extremely anxious, I'll use it as well. So it really depends. I mean, we have people who will say to us who suffer from anxiety that they immediately feel it. Or some people like me will say that it's the buildup in their system and they'll more so notice when they're not on it. And if I go a few days without it, I can tell that I'm feeling a little bit more anxious. So it's interesting. It's something for some people that they feel immediately, and then some people's systems, their endocannabinoid system, it takes a while to build up. That's what makes it so interesting, though.
Yeah. Is it based off of how much anxiety you have? Like, you have more anxiety. You need to take it every day versus if it's just a once in a while thing, you can just take it when it happens.
Well, we're still working as an industry on dosage, so there's more serving. So serving sizes than dosage is what we recommend. But we always recommend people. People start low and work their way up. What's important to know is you can't overdo it. There's no toxicity level, so even Advil and Tylenol, you can really hurt yourself or even kill yourself by overdosing on what we sell over the counter. But with cbd, if you take too much, the worst that happens is you just. You pee it out. But that is a great question. How do you really judge someone if they have a little anxiety versus a ton of anxiety and how much they should take? Unfortunately, there's no exact dosage, like a medication yet, so it's more of you need to kind of get a feel for what's good for you and what's good for your body. So we always tell people to start low and work high. But I was going to say, it's funny. I literally had a flashback of Angie backstage at her event. We were talking about her event last year. It Pays to be brave. And I could tell she was nervous because I've obviously known her since she was born, and she does a great job playing it off, but she was like, downing CBD back in backstage and joking around, and she was like, give me more, give me more. I was like, you're good and you're good. I literally have that image in my head and then her getting out there and crushing it. And honestly, it was one of the proudest moments of My life, seeing her do that, it was, it was really cool whether. Whether it was Soul CBD pushing her or not. It was awesome to see her kind of push through that fear.
It was so. It was Soul cbd. Yeah, it was so.
Well, I mean, and you still were super energetic. Because I feel like then people think, oh, well, doesn't make you super chilled and won't I not be able to work that day? I know like my fiance, I'm always like, try the cbd. He's like, oh, I have work today. I can't, like, because I feel like people think it's going to make them numb or tired, et cetera. So it's still making you less anxious, but still have the same energy as you normally have, right?
Yeah. For me, a lot of people even tend to be more focused because anytime you have less anxiety, it's like you can, you can dial in more on exactly what you need to focus on. Right. So if you're getting out of your sympathetic into parasympathetic nervous system, I know for me as a fighter, anytime I'm more calm and in that parasympathetic, I see punches better, my reactions are better. I feel like Bradley Cooper in Limitless where I see everything. So. But anytime you're in that heightened stress, oh my God, I gotta do this or that, your nervous system's going crazy. It's tough to kind of dial in. So, yeah, to answer that, if anything, it makes you more focused. So it's not one of those things like a anti anxiety pill or a sleeping pill where you have to worry about driving after taking it or it'll make you too sleepy. A lot of people like to take it in the morning with their coffee.
I like to do it before any networking events too. And speaking like I said, I think it can be really helpful for social anxiety. I have found that even being an extrovert, I still deal with that sometimes and it helps a ton.
So. Interesting. Now I want to talk about digestion because I know that a lot of people have said that CBD helps with digestion, ibs, et cetera. What have you guys seen with this?
Funny, I was speaking at an event a month or two ago and this guy comes up to me behind stage and he's like, I love Soul cbd. I'm like, oh, that's amazing. What do you take it for? What do you love about it? He's like, my ibs. I was like, oh, that's interesting. And it's because it's really healing for the Gut, especially the oil that we use, the carrier, is an MCT oil, which is really, really healing for the gut. And I have found that it's fascinating. A lot of people are actually using it to heal their gut or to help with digestive issues, which is fascinating the first thing we hear. But it is definitely still an ailment that people are using it for.
Well, I think first and foremost a lot of issues are coming from inflammation, whether it's gut issues or a lot of autoimmunity as well. I know firsthand having an autoimmune disease, that inflammation tends to create a lot of these problems. Now, inflammation after injury, for instance, definitely has its place. Acute inflammation, but chronic long term inflammation tends to really break bodies down, especially the digestive system. So CBD helps calm that inflammation. So we're kind of finding that wherever that inflammation is present in your body, it seems to find it. So it's interesting that it can help someone with a headache, but then also help someone with ibs.
Yeah, very true. It's all disruption in the body, right? Dis ease.
There it is.
Yes. There are so many ways right now that people are ingesting CBD from oils, tinctures, vape pens, bath bombs. You guys have the tinctures and bath bombs. So can you tell us what are the differences between these three forms and what other forms are out there?
Yeah, so there's many different ways to take cbd. We think the number one way that we recommend is sublingually are the tinctures drops that you put underneath your tongue. They found that when you put the drops underneath the tongue, not just with cbd, but with anything the efficacy, it's much more efficacious because it enters the blood brain barrier and essentially you're absorbing a lot more of that versus when you're swallowing something. We're not entirely sure what the bioavailability is. Now, we do have pills that people love and take, but we think if you want the most efficacious, definitely the oils, whether it's our 500 milligram or 1500 milligram. And we have some really good tasting oils like Angie mentioned, we use MCT oil as our carrier, but we have peppermint and lemon, lime and orange. So our oils, by far our most popular product. But we also have an extra strength pain cream that I literally just got a text from one of my buddies who plays in the NFL, Philadelphia Eagles, and said he's been wearing it before every single practice. I've got other athletes on it and people Just want to hit the gym. So they love the pain cream as well. And then the bath bombs. And I think the bath bombs are. Have really been a big hit as well. We have sleep caps, which are sleep capsules that have 25mg CBD along with 5mg of melatonin, as well as valerian, and may pop in there. So it just has this entourage effect of really good sleep ingredients. And then I'll let Angie and baby grandma talk about the bath bombs, because that's her favorite.
Oh, the baby grandma. Mike makes fun of me all the time for my long walks outside. He's like, where are you walking to? I'm like, no, I'm just walking.
I do the same every day.
I love, love, love the bath bombs. It's been really amazing, especially for the women who maybe aren't ready or don't know yet if they want to try one of our drops. I think a bath bomb is a great way to dive into the CBD world. We have one for pain management. We have stress. We have one for libido and mood. So we have a few different ones, which is amazing. And I do it a few times a week, especially after workouts, which I love. So I think the bath bombs is a nice, fun way to add it to your daily routine, or obviously it's a nice gift and something fun just to give someone who's new to cbd.
I love that. And they are so beautiful colors. And when you look at the ingredients, they're actually all natural, too, because I feel like a lot of people are apprehensive about using bubbly, soapy things because of all the chemicals. But you guys actually use essential oils, and it's all natural.
Oh, yeah. And as a baby grandma, my favorite is our sleep capsules. Right now, we just came out with sleep line, which is great for you gals and guys who are having issues sleeping. So I am a huge, huge. I'm a huge fan of that as well as a baby grandma.
Love that. Now, what about vape pens? Because I see a lot of people are there. Cbd, vape pens. I know there's thc, obviously.
Yeah, there are. You see a lot of that on the market. Most of what you see is combinations of THC and CBD with different ratios and different blends. We just didn't really want to get into the vape market because we've heard a lot of negative things about the health and efficacy of vaping cbd. So for us, we just wanted the all natural Quality ingredients. So not to say I'm sure vaping can help people, but I think within a lot of negative backlash you're seeing from companies like Juul, and granted, that's nicotine, but you're just finding that you got to be careful the chemicals that are also being added in that while you're vaping. So we just kind of wanted to take a step back and not really use the pens yet until we really dialed in and made sure that they were completely safe. And so we're just kind of waiting on that. But some people do like it.
Totally. Yeah. I mean, I know that, like, Juuls and these nicotine vapes. I've heard their secondhand smoke is actually even worse than, like, regular secondhand smoke from cigarettes because it stays in the furniture for a very long time. So I was wondering if that was something related to the nicotine or burning of the oils. That could be the thing. But I think a lot of people now are just, you know, it's like, habitual. They just want to smoke something. So, yeah, I definitely don't think that that's the ideal way to. To take in any kind of herb.
Yeah, I mean, like, like I said, I think sublingually is definitely the most efficacious, and, you know, it can be effective. But we. We just want to make sure whatever oil we're using and we want to kind of see how it shakes out in the industry before we dive in. Because, like you said, I mean, it's cool that we have two founders attached to it and our names are attached to this business, and we don't take that lightly. So I want to make sure that what we're putting out there, the message and the product is safe.
You know, love that. Now, is there a certain age that people have to be to start taking CBD? Is it 18 and older thing?
I think Angie gets this question a lot from her audience of moms trying to calm their kids down. But, no, there's no specific age, and we don't have any. We find some people that are giving it to their kids to help them calm down. In fact, we've had a lot of testimonials saying, I slipped this in my kid's drink, or I gave it to my husband and didn't tell him what it was. And a week later, he just said, I feel good. I feel better. What is that? So people like literally tricking their family members, which is kind of funny. And then we have a lot of older community as well. That I think while the stigma of the cannabis and hemp world really needs to be overcome. They're kind of understanding they have a lot of aches and pains and they're understanding that CBD is not the same as thc. So it's kind of all ages right now, to be honest.
A lot of moms will tell me that they gave it to their children in the morning, in their food or in their drink, and it helps them a lot with social anxiety. A lot of children who are nervous to play with the kids at school or are having issues focusing at school, which I think is so fun and so cool. It's funny to me because when Mike and I got into this, we didn't really think about that. We thought of athletes and we thought of people like us. But now we're realizing that with a pet line and with CBD helping children, we're actually helping a lot more creatures than we thought. Yeah, it's really fulfilling. I mean, we live for those DMs. I live for those messages. Just knowing that a mom feels like her son can go to school and be a better human at school and is functioning better, I mean, that's literally changing the world in a small. In a small way, which is really powerful.
And even giving it to like your actual grandmothers and grandfathers, you know, because they probably experienced so many aches and pains and just, you know, overall sadness that comes with potentially living in a nursing home, etc. So this could be a perfect product to give you your real grandma besides your baby grandma.
Yeah. Yeah. I would say that the older. What do we call them? The older generation baby boomers. They love it. They love it. Especially if they are dealing with any inflammation or joint issues.
Yes, very true. So, so we can get the record clear. Can you get high from cbd?
No. CBD is non psychoactive. So if you're getting high from something, then there is more THC in there than what they claimed.
Got it.
And for both of you guys, what do you see as you know, the future of cbd? What other kinds of products, usages? What do you see next for the forefront?
What do you think, Ange?
I see a few things happening. I see that it's going to be in every single food product. I see CBD as the next turmeric. Right. CBD is the next cinnamon. It's the next turmeric. It's going to be in every single person's cabinet in their kitchen in eight to 10 years. It will be a very normal thing. My children or my children's children won't think that it's taboo. They're going to say mom or grandma. I can't believe that you lived during the time where CBD was seen as taboo or was it legal? You know what I mean? I think that it's going to be something that will be like a spice, which it should be. And I also think it's going to be added to a lot of food products. I also think that, again, I'm not a huge fan of it in gummies or baked goods because now they're just coating it with sugar. So again, I'm not a huge fan of the CBD gummies scene that's going on. I think it's kind of like the Flintstones of vitamins. It's cheesy and it's fake and it's like, what are you really taking? But I do think you're going to see a huge boom of it being added to foods and to drinks, for sure. Not to say that's good or bad, but I think it's going to be everywhere.
Yeah, I've definitely seen it in like kombuchas, in like lavender CBD lemonades at Erewhon and definitely more and more products.
Yeah, well, the key with all that too, I think Angie's spot on. I think education is going to be huge and that's why, why we're trying more and more and we're creating more content and we want to be thought leaders in this space because like you mentioned earlier, it's the Wild West. And so we need to figure out what exactly is the best type of CBD and how much you need. And that's something that the scientific community, the fda, everybody is learning as we go along. Because there are a lot of CBD products out there that have little to no CBD in their marketing. As if they do. They have like 1 or 2 milligrams in a cookie that has 50 grams of sugar, sugar, sugar. And people just need to kind of be educated, understand, like, okay, the net gains of that isn't really helping you with your health. So that's really where I see it. But I see the market exploding. And I think one day in the United States, cannabis in general will be completely federally legal. Now, CBD right now is completely federally legal as long as it's, you know, under that THC threshold. But I see people becoming more open minded to it. I really hope so.
So I love that so much. Now, before everyone goes and buys it for every member of their family, are there certain types of people who should not have cbd, like certain medications, health issues, et cetera.
Yeah, we always tell people to consult their doctor first. So first of all, Angie and I, while we're very health conscious, we're not making any medical claims here and not saying it's going to cure this or cure that, I think that would be just not proper and not, you know, the right way to go about it. So I think anybody, whether you're dealing with an autoimmune disease or whatever it is, really consult with your doctor. But just know that, like I said, we really haven't seen any side effects, drastic side effects, and we haven't. There's no toxicity. And we have third party lab verified testing where you can see everything that's in there, so know the product is safe. But obviously if we're talking about specific ailments or medical conditions, we really do recommend that people consult with their doctor first. You'd rather be safe than sorry?
I love that so much. And you guys have so much information on this and you really are like the people that I always go to when I'm trying to learn more about CBD and how it can affect all areas of our lives.
