243: Feeling Good Is Your Job with Gala Darling
17 Dec 2019 · 60 min
Gala Darling talks about why feeling good matters spiritually and practically. She argues that joy and pleasure aren't obstacles to growth but essential to it, and that your emotional state directly shapes what you attract and create in your life.
Namaste, it's Sahara Rose. And welcome back to the Highest Self podcast, a place where we discuss what makes you your soul's highest evolvement. If it is your first time listening, welcome. I am so grateful for you to be here. I am so honored to be part of your path, and I'm so excited to see where this journey takes you. This podcast is a lifestyle, and you will begin to see that. And this episode is a wonderful one to get started with because it is with Gala Darling. So I came across Gala on Instagram, and I thought she was so cool because she is a spiritual teacher, specifically on law of attraction, manifestation, self love. But she has such a unique style to her. I mean, she wears hot pink wigs, and she has these, like, long acrylic nails and sparkly jumps and heels. And it's so different from what you see of different spiritual teachers. And I found it very inspiring because, like we talk about in this episode today, sometimes we feel like to be spiritual, we have to look like everyone else, dress like everyone else, have the same beliefs as everyone else. I know I was guilty of that. When I really set foot on my spiritual journey, I was like, okay, I can only wear loose white clothing and, like, these super big Indian scarves and listen only to mantras and only eat the specific vegan food around these specific vegan people. And that's what my soul needed at the time. I needed to go a complete 360 from where I was previously at, but it was also not showing my fullest form. You know, I was afraid to show, you know, my hip hop side, my DJ side, my twerk side, all of these other sides of me, because they felt like they were not, quote, unquote, spiritual. They didn't fit into the Persona of what a conscious person looks like. And I see this happening a lot with people when they begin their spiritual journey. Like, they realize that there's so much to learn, and then they kind of take on this other identity. And we don't want to jump from one group identity to the next. We don't want to go from mainstream to, like, doing all the things that only spiritual people do. The whole point is to go back to yourself. But I understand that that is a step of us go through to find ourselves. So in this podcast episode, we talk.
A lot about that.
Standing true to who you are, even if it might bother people, it might make people think you are a fake or a phony or whatever it is. We talk about dealing with criticism and haters and feedback. As Gala has Been blogging for over a decade and we also talk about manifestation, law of attraction. She lives by this quote of feeling good is your job, which is a quote that she heard from Abraham Hicks, who I've done episodes about after seeing them, AKA Esther Hicks channel this group of souls that goes by the name of Abraham, which is all about how you should get into a high vibration state to manifest the things that you want. And this is really the work that she lives by. So we really dive deep into what that means. How do you feel good when you have, you know, a business to run and all of these things that you don't want to do and maybe feel really challenging and how to balance that? So you're gonna love this episode. She is sparkly, she is a unicorn, she's full of light, and I know you're going to love her. Without further ado, let's welcome Gala Darling to the Highest Self Podcast. And before we get started, check out these brands that make Highest Self Podcast possible. Ah, love it, love it, love it. Sitting on your couch with your adorable dog. Just, I'm really happy to be here.
We're just waiting for the dolphins to come out.
Yeah, I have a good view of them right now, so I'll let you know if I spot anything. Yes.
We'll know we're in alignment when those start popping out.
Absolutely.
With money bags.
Yes.
So the first question I'd love to ask you is, what makes you your highest self?
What makes me my highest self is focusing on feeling good and making that my job and prioritizing it over everything else, Prioritizing it over creative, prioritizing it over relationships, prioritizing it over going to the gym, waking up early, whatever it is. And I learned this about two years ago, and I learned it because I was in a really shitty relationship and I was desperate for answers and all the self help stuff wasn't helping. And I stumbled across Abraham Hicks and they said, feeling good is your job. And I was like, you know what? I feel so shitty, I'll try anything. I'm just gonna make feeling good my priority. And when I did that, everything in my life completely changed. And it's literally never been the same since. And now I have this such good control of my mind and where it goes and what I do with it that just, life just gets better feeling and more fun all the time.
I love that. And I love Abraham Hicks and all of their work as well. And I think where a lot of people get stuck is I feel so far away from feeling good. Like, I don't even know what the steps are to get there. So what would you recommend to someone who like, their life is like, it's not horrible, but it's just like, I definitely don't feel Good.
Yeah. Well, we have to remember that emotions are a sliding scale. And so you don't go from me to oh, my God in like, three hops. And it takes a little bit of time, but there's always something in your life that's good or even great. Even if it's just like your dog loves you and you guys snuggle every night, like, put your attention on that. You just want to start putting your attention on the things that naturally and easily make you feel good. And the more that you flow that appreciation, the better everything else becomes around you. Like, if you've noticed, if you wake up and you're in a bad mood, it's just like you attract more and more shitty stuff. And that's how it goes. Because you're just spiraling your energy in this negative way. Of course you're going to notice everything that's not working. Of course you're going to be pissed off at your boyfriend, obviously. But if you make a practice of focusing on what's good, it just gets better. And I know that sounds unbelievably simple, but all of the biggest truths in life are so simple now. It doesn't mean they're easy to do, but it means they're simple, not complicated.
Love that so much. And I think you're right. Everyone does have something that's good in their lives. Even when you're in the deepest depression. I remember in college, I was depressed for a while, and for me it was like, just, if I could go to the gym that day, that was the thing I was proud of myself of. Like, that's the one thing I could do today. And then, you know, from there it's like, maybe I, like, ate healthy, maybe I went to the farmer's market and you just, like, go. And then that ended up becoming my passion because it was like the thing that got me out of feeling so much darkness.
Exactly. And that's the other great thing about when we have a shitty experience or we're having a hard time. Those things open us up to something better. Like you going through that depression in college. In fact, if you hadn't experienced that, you may have never discovered your passion for nutrition and health and spirituality. And just like me being in that terrible relationship. I don't wanna say terrible wasn't terrible, it just was painful. But if I hadn't been in that, I wouldn't have discovered how important it was for me to feel good. And so I'm grateful for that experience, even though it was so deeply painful at the Time. And, you know, with hindsight, we can always see that things make sense. We can connect the dots.
Exactly. And when we're going through it, we can't. So I feel like a lot of people where they get stuck and even where I have been stuck is like, on this topic is, well, if I just focus on feeling good, will I fall behind in work? You know, because the things that I need to do to become successful don't always feel good.
I think that, well, it really depends on where you're at. You don't need to jump into like a full on diet of just feeling good all the time. This is like a gradual process. But even in your work, like, yeah, there may be parts of it that you don't love, but it's like, okay, how can you make that more enjoyable? Could you put on like your favorite Rihanna mixtape and fucking jam out while you do your invoices or whatever it is? You know, and there are ways to make everything enjoyable in some way. So just like, look for those little tweaks and we get stuck in this thing of like, life is really boring. Like, no, there's a way to add magic to every single part of your day if you're looking for that. But most people aren't. Most people are operating in this way where life feels boring, life feels mediocre. They haven't seen any real examples of people who are living a great fucking life. So they're not even aware that these are a possibility. And that's why it's so important. Even with, like, Instagram can be so great because you can see people living a different way than you are and be like, what can I borrow from this? How can I practice that?
And something that I just love about you and what you doing. I was telling you before, like, you're one of the only people whose, like, spiritual videos I actually watch myself. Because you're doing it in such a different way. And we see so many, you know, just cookie cutter people in every industry, spirituality included, that say the same thing in the same way, wear the same exact white robe, and if that's your truth, like, go for it. But I've definitely been in that place of like, okay, now I'm spiritual. So what does spirituality look like? I gotta fit into this box and, like, do these things and like, not get excited about those things that used to make me excited. Like, hip hop is no longer spiritual. And it's like, no, it's all integrated. Like, anything is spiritual. And what I love about how you do also is like, you reclaim that magic is something that we have the responsibility to put into our lives because. Cause we're oftentimes like, waiting for, you know, Disney World to come around, and then that's when we're gonna have a good time. But it's like, how do I take that? Glitter. Like literal glitter. I'm sure you have, like. I mean, I've seen your stories. Like, incredible pink walls and all of that stuff. But, like, they weren't pink. You made them pink. You know, your life wasn't like this. You made it like this. And we're waiting for magic, when magic is something that we have to be the magicians to create.
Absolutely. And we have the power to do that in every area of our lives. And yeah, I love just the idea of letting go of that performative aspect of spirituality. Like, just because you're spiritual doesn't mean you have to put on some fucking mala beads and some harem pants and like, I don't know, only eat erewhon. Like, you can if you want to. Right? But like, fuck that. Go to In n Out and like, enjoy your life. You don't have to follow these, like, dogmatic ways of living. And I really. I think it's important for people to. If they're kind of new to this or they're figuring out where am I and where do I fit in. Look at the people that you admire and ask yourself, who are they and what do they have in common? And the people that I love are like, you know, ex editors from Vogue and Russell Brand and fucking, like, crazy people who did weird shit. Like, one of my all time heroes is Gala Dali, who was Salvador Dali's wife. And that's where I got my name from. And Salvador Dali bought her a castle in Spain, but he was only allowed to visit when she gave him a written invitation. Like, you're a bad bitch. Yes, that is what I'm fucking talking about. And so if you look at the people that inspire you, then what. Where you fit in will make more sense. Like, I'm not inspired by anyone who wears all white. Like, I can't think of anyone that inspires me that does that. And for some people, that's totally their shit and that's totally fine. But, like, go for something that really authentically lights you up, not what you think you should be doing.
Totally. I think a lot of us, you know, we go from this path of just like mainstream media, wearing whatever we're told, and then we discover spirituality and it's this new outlet and it's really exciting for us. And then we notice, okay, well, all of the people who are talking about this stuff, like, this is what their houses look like. This is what they do for work. So, like, in order for me to live that kind of aligned life, my life must us look like that in all ways. And then I think what happens is we just go from one mainstream to another mainstream, which is, like, kind of what spirituality is turning into right now. And that next level, like, level three is like, have pink hair, like, do whatever you want, twerk this, like, and those people who are judging that have not quite seen the totality that, like, there. There is no black and white. There is no good and bad. Like, everything is sacred if you want it to be.
Yeah. What you. I think I feel like what you're talking about is going from one tribe to another, and that's what people do. And, you know, we do look for belonging, and we do want to fit in, and we do want to be accepted. So all of these things are very understandable. But there's a beautiful power that comes from fully accepting who you are and what you love and expressing it and wearing stripper heels if you want to, and twerking like you do. I was, like, looking at our DMs the other day, and there was, like, you had beat. You, like, did some twerking video. And I had replied to. And I was like, you're a fucking beast. Like, that's so awesome. I love that. And that's really exciting to me.
Yes.
And, you know, like, you can be erotic and you can be spiritual and soulful, and you can be joyful and you can be chaotic sometimes. And, like, all of those things are okay.
So a topic that you've talked about is that you can be a material girl, care about, you know, nice things in your life, and be spiritual. And a lot of what we hear is, like, the more spiritual you are, the more minimalist you are, the less you want things. So can you talk a little bit more about that?
Yeah, I think that. I mean, there are a few ways to look at this. Obviously, if you have a shopping compulsion, if you are buying things, to try to make yourself feel abundant when you don't really have the money for it. If you are buying things so that you can appear a certain way, then those are unhealthy coping mechanisms. That is a way of numbing. It's a way of trying to change the external without changing the internal. But if you're an integrated person, if you're doing the work, if you feel good about who you are, and you're not trying to impress others or present a certain way to others, then, you know, buying, like, a sparkly sweatsuit or a bedazzled phone case can just be an expression of who you truly are. And there's so much fun and joy in that. And at the same time, sometimes if I go to a store and I buy something beautiful, the Joy only lasts 30 seconds. The most exciting part of that is taking it to the register, having them wrap it up. Once I have the shopping bag in my hand, like, I call an Uber, and I'm thinking about, like, what am I gonna have for dinner? Or, like, I'm texting a friend, you know? So we have to also recognize that, like, these material things are not gonna change our lives, but they can be a really fun addition. And I also believe in the. The having beautiful things around you. It makes you feel good. Like, nobody wants to live in a basement. Everybody wants to live somewhere with a beautiful view. Why? Because it makes you feel good. Because it's a good visual diet. And that's not shallow. That's just the human spirit craves beauty and art and delicious things. And that's fantastic.
Absolutely true. And I think that where we've kind of gotten lost is we're saying that beauty is no longer spiritual when it's, like, the exact same. Like, why do we eat human love? Certain spiritual sites, like a temple or going to the beach. Like, we would all call these places spiritual, but it's the beauty of it. And I think that we all can just enhance the quality of our lives by, like, a simple corner of our house. Like, I had this, like, wall, and I was like, what if I put a bench and pillows and, like, things around it? And now, instead of a wall, it's this cool little tribal corner that I can't stop looking at because it brings me joy, and that enhances the quality of my life that, you know, me just being in my home makes me feel like I'm on a retreat. And that was, like, a huge thing that I wanted, but before, it was, like, not even on my radar. I thought, like, oh, I don't need anything outside of myself. Like, I have everything. And it's true. I do have everything I need. And I'm a human with eyes and deserve to, you know, have things around me that spark joy.
Absolutely. Yeah. And I love the thing about wanting to feel like you're in a resort when you're in your home. A lot of us feel like, oh, I can have beautiful things. When I'm on holiday, maybe, but in my real life life, I can't. Or it's not okay for me to splurge on this. Or it's like, no, you can make your house look however the fuck you want. I have a hot pink couch in my living room. I have trees everywhere. I have a, like a 16 inch rose quartz crystal penis that's like on my altar next to my Lakshmi. Like, I'm creating a space that feels really good to me.
Yes.
And that's what it's about.
And what I love, just about everything you do is, like, you're not waiting for permission for someone. Like, no one. I don't even think someone showed you, like, you can have a rose quartz crystal next to crystal penis next to your Lakshmi. Like, no one showed you that. You're just like, I feel drawn to the penis. I feel drawn to Lakshmi. So they're both going on my altar.
Absolutely.
And I think it's like, we're like, oh, well, what can the altar have? Like, I need to check the the altar guidebook. And it's like anything you want can go however you want whenever you want. And we're just, in our lives, we're just waiting for permission for something.
Yeah, I'm really big on the concept that we are born with an innate permission slip to do be, have whatever the fuck we want. And, you know, you can do that with clothing or how you decorate your house, but so many people I see are waiting for permission to write the book, start the YouTube channel, do the speaking. And it's like, literally no one is gonna drop from the sky and say, hey, you're finally worthy. It's finally okay. And in my experience, everything I've ever done that I wanted kind of like a mainstream stamp of approval on, it never worked. When I just went to Random House and was like, hey, I want to write a book, they're always like, we don't get it. So what I've done every single time is I create the thing and then they realize it's great and then they buy into it. And that's like the way that I run my life. It's kind of this like anarchistic punk rock DIY ethos where it's like, I'm not going to fucking wait for you to tell me it's okay. And I'm certainly not going to do it the way you think it should be done. I trust my vision and I love my audience and I know what they want, and I'm gonna make it for them whether you're along for the ride or not. And it has worked so well for me, 100%.
And I did the exact same thing with my first book. You know, I didn't even know what a book deal was. I thought you just like, write the book and just like ends up at Barnes and Nobles. So I wrote the whole thing, edited everything, and I got rejected by 30 different publishers. But at least I knew, okay, well, now I'll just self publish it. Like, I have the book. I don't have to wait for someone else's permission. And then it just ended up working because I had prepared myself, because I'd already written a book before, because I had proof that I was able to do the thing that I said I wanted to do, that I ended up getting a book deal. But so many people have an idea, they're told no, and then they. They don't even execute on the idea.
Right, Exactly.
And then it's like, well, that person's not gonna change their mind when it just like sat back on the cabinet of the thoughts that you wish you acted on.
Exactly. And the other thing is that every time you do the thing, you get better at the thing.
Yes.
So I'm fucking glad that I got turned down for writing that book when I was like 25 or whenever I was going for it, because my book would have written at 25, would have been a bullshit book. I needed some more life experience. And the book ended up being so much better because I then waited and then I self published. And then Hay House was like, hey, we want to republish this. I was like, great.
And I feel like I saw you were like doing your book like every month, like a chapter a month. Can you explain how you are releasing that?
Yeah, I've done that a couple of times. So with my first book, Radical Self Love, I released it as a serial. So every month you would get a chapter of the book and an MP3 of me reading it to you. And that was basically how I forced myself to finish a book. Because if your audience is waiting for you every month, you're gonna get it done.
So were you writing it along the way? Like you would release it and then you would write the next chapter that month?
Yeah.
Wow.
And I did that with my second book as well. And with Radical Self Love, I ended up selling that book three times. So I sold it as a digital serial and then I sold it as a self published book and then I sold it to Hay House. So it was fantastic. And. And most People wouldn't even conceive of that being a possible path. But you can literally, like, that is the great thing about the world we live in. You can do it however the fuck you want. You can tweak any formula. There's no gatekeeper. There's no rules. Like, you get to do whatever you want. It's so hot. Like, the. Oh, the potential is so rich, juicy. It's so hot.
So I'm sure a lot of people are like, that's so genius. How are you coming up with those ideas? Like, those kind of ideas just don't come through. So, like, do you have a creative process? What is it look like for you to come up with these ideas?
That's a good question. So with the first book, I was living in New York City, and I had just moved there. I had a sublet in the west village. It was $2,500 a month, which felt like a lot of money at the time. And I was selling advertising on my blog. That was how I made my living. And then it was 2008, so the economy completely tanked. American Apparel was not buying blog ads anymore. And I called my friend Mike Dooley, who runs Notes from the Universe and has written a lot of books, and I said, how the fuck do I make a living? I've got an audience, and they love my stuff, but I don't know how to do this. And he said, oh, I walk around my house with a Dictaphone and I speak into it, and I sell CDs of that to my audience. And I thought, wow, that's really smart. But I wasn't a confident speaker yet. And I thought, well, maybe I can take that idea and I'll just write a book chapter by chapter, and I'll do it that way. And that was, like, the beginning of that idea. But, you know, my best ideas never come from just like me sitting in my house, staring into my computer screen, willing the inspiration to come. It's always from talking to a friend, going for a walk, like, walking around Barnes and Noble and being like, oh, that's so interesting. How can I fuck with this formula? And I think another thing that is really informs what I do is I don't look at other people's businesses and say, like, oh, that's working for them. I'm gonna do that. It's always about, what does my audience want? And the biggest question is, what's gonna be fun for me? And that question has guided my business for the last year and a half. And I've never Been so abundant, prosperous. I've never had so much free time and I've never had so much fun at work.
So good.
Yeah, yeah.
I think a lot of us, we want the ideas, but then we don't allow that space for that fun and that fluidity and that spontaneity. And exactly how you said when you're sitting in front of your laptop, those best ideas are never gonna come through. Cause you're like in the incubator and there's no space. Like how I explain it from an ayurvedic perspective is like the vata. The idea, you do it through the pitta. That's like the fire, the execution. And then the kafa is like the pause. So most of us, we want like idea execute, idea execute, but we don't take the pause. So there's no space for the idea to come through.
The pause is so important. And the other thing is I know there are people listening to this who are like, great, so you just like have fun all the time. Like fucking good for you, bitch. But it has also taken me 15 years to get to this point. So like this is a process and I've been working on my business full time for a years, few 15 years. People want the magic bullet. They want the thing that they're going to get, the million followers tomorrow, whatever. It's like this is not how it works.
Absolutely. It's definitely just trial and error and taking time. But I think, you know, what you do so well is you just so stand apart. Like, I just don't know anyone who's talking about spirituality in the way that you are, who looks like you are. And that's what I think people are so afraid of. And I think that a lot of people don't even like, maybe you've always had a really individualistic, like punk rock attitude. A lot of people don't have. So they're like, well, I genuinely don't have anything that makes me stand apart to share. Like I don't even have a freak flag to fly. So what do you say to those people who like, don't even really know what makes them special yet?
Ask your friends. Say like, hey, what do you love about me? What do you see in me that you don't see in other people. And it might be that you're really generous. It might be that you're a fantastic artist. Like there are a million things that you could be good at. It's not necessarily about like having pink hair and like tattoos on your hands or whatever. That's just how I choose to express myself. And I have always had that like weirdo attitude. I was like a 13 year old Goth girl. I would wear silver angel wings in the city every weekend. You know, like, those are my roots. So this is not like a costume. This is just an evolution of where I've been for a long time. But everyone has something special, whether it's you personally or the business that you run. There's a way that you do it that's different. And there's a. A seed that you can capitalize on that you can leverage to show more of that individuality, whatever that may be.
I love that. And you talk about fun. So what are the things that you do for fun that spark a lot of joy?
What a good question. What do I do for fun? Like, I love my work. I really love to create things. It's so good. It's so good. I love talking to my friends. I love traveling. I love wandering around the city and just finding new things and going to art galleries and listening to music and, you know, it's really a balance of being alone, which I really love. I'm an only child and I'm so comfortable with my own company. And then the other side is like connecting with other people in meaningful ways. I'm not a huge fan of small talk. I really want to talk about people's love lives and their businesses and what they're working on creatively and like, how can I support you? And one of my favorite things to do is to brainstorm for other people. Like, that is such a joyful.
I love that too. Yeah, I'm a projector in human design. So I'm also like, yeah, I can like see things so clearly. But you're a manifester. So I'm like, okay, I get it.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. I love to, you know, just dream up new things. And my inner world is really rich. And I think that, you know, developing that inner world is so important. In the last year or so, I didn't really date at all. I took a break from it. I realized that the last person I had dated, like very casually for two months was basically just the same guy I'd always dated. Just he had a British accent this time and blue eyes. And I was like, I have to take a break from this. So I stopped dating. I, like, read a lot of books on relationships and love. I took some courses and I really started to understand why I was attracted to what I was attracted to and to rewire what I found hot in someone else. And I took that time off and I'm now really, what is the word, like, evangelical about people taking that time to be single? Because it will inform who you are so strongly. And if you feel like I don't know who I am and I don't know what I'm doing, like, maybe you've just always had a man in your ear telling you how you should live your life and what you should be interested in and how you should spend your time. Like, I realized that I'd grown up with a father with a very strong opinion and then just lived with and or married to a bunch of dudes who did the same fucking thing. Like, yeah, I knew who I was, but I didn't really know. And it's important to spend time alone so you can uncover that shit so you really know who you are. And you can learn how to modulate your emotions without leaning on someone else either. You know, leaning on them to make you feel good when you feel shitty, or like, projecting your stuff on them when you're in a bad mood or whatever, like when you're literally standing alone, you become a totally different person. It's such a powerful process.
What if I told you that you could replace one item you already wear and it. It would significantly improve your circulation, boost your energy, and simply make you feel better? Well, you can. And that solution is compression socks. The hardest place for your body to circulate blood is down in your feet and back up to your heart. Circulation becomes even harder when you sit or stand all day long, which causes tired, achy, and swollen legs. It's worsened by hormonal shifts during pregnancy, which can cause painful swelling and spider legs. Compression socks are proven to help circulate freshly oxygenated blood, giving you refreshed, supported, and energized legs and feet, and help prevent circulatory conditions like varicose veins. I love Conrad compression socks because of their true graduated compression. That's lab tested for accuracy. You can get yours for 20% off@comradesox.com Sahara using coupon code Sahara. Sahara. That's comrade C O M R A D socks.com forward slash Sahara. So how could we apply, you know, law of attraction to finding that potential partner?
Well, you know, I love the idea that you should write a list of everything that you want. I did.
I did that. Really?
Yeah. And then I also love the idea that you have to look at that list and be like, do I meet all this fucking criteria? Because if you want someone who's like, wealthy and their banking is like their Finances are in order and they go to the gym all the time and they're a great cook and they have a fantastic social life and they're passionate, like, well, do you have all that shit right? And a lot of us are like, I want this perfect being. And it's like, well, if he met you, he probably wouldn't be interested because you don't have those things and you need to be with someone who is your equal in those ways or there's always going to be an imbalance. So I think that's really important. And then the other thing I think about, and I was talking to our mutual friend Alexander Roxo about this a couple of days ago, is the idea that you may be looking for like the one, like you may be on the hunt for a long term relationship, a long term partnership, but that doesn't mean that you have to be alone on the way there. That doesn't mean that you have to not date anyone unless they are the one. And what we can do is, is date people that make us feel good, that bring joy to our lives and practice being in that feeling of feeling good. Because when we practice it, we attract it more quickly. And the other thing is like the law of averages, like you gotta date lots of people to meet the right person. You're probably not gonna meet the right person just sitting in your house and like hoping your postmate's delivery person is cute, right? That's not gonna work. You're gonna have to get out in the world and be in the world to meet someone.
One, yeah, I met my husband from Bumble.
I love that.
And I would have never, I would have never guessed. And I wrote a list, but I forgot about that list because I thought I was gonna move. I thought this guy lived in San Francisco, like for sure he didn't live in la. And then I just made it my focus to just, this is gonna be my year of having fun. Go to all the music festivals. Ended up seeing this guy. His pictures are at music festivals. I wanted to get tickets to this, this festival and I thought he might have them.
Yeah.
Ended up becoming my husband, you know, but it kind of just shows. It's like I wasn't thinking about it. I wasn't like, like, is this the guy for my list? Like, it was just not on my mind. And when I wrote that list, I did this meditation and really what he communicated was, I'll find you. Like, don't go looking for me.
Wow, I love that. And when you met him, did you know that he was your dude or were you just like, oh, he seems cool. Like, let's see how this first, like.
The first date, like, after the date, I for sure knew.
Oh, I love that. Yeah, that's so great.
Yes. And it's also. He's not a quote unquote, like, spiritual dude. He does not do, like, the Malabi. Like, he works in the music industry and, like, manages DJs and producers and they're, like, traveling all the time. But I loved that. And I realized that for me, like, I don't want someone who's like my twin, you know, that, like, is doing the same work.
Like, there's.
There's no polarity and there's no, like, chemistry in that. So I think a lot of, like, spiritual girls, like, look for that spiritual guy, but then sometimes that spiritual guy comes with all this other stuff that we're not super attracted to.
Yeah, I feel like. I mean, a lot of men who are really into spiritual work are very much in their feminine, and that's beautiful. But personally, I'm not attracted to that. And I've actually never dated, like, a spiritual dude because there's no polarity, like you're saying. And actually, like, really normal dudes who just, like, have their shit together.
And I, like, imagine you with, like, like a Russell Brand.
You're honestly not the first person to say that. But he is so much energy. I think that would be a lot to deal with.
Yeah, you guys would be too similar. Maybe.
Yeah, maybe.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So I want to talk about law of attraction and money, because this is a huge thing. Huge thing. I've done a lot of work around is like, can we be spiritual and want money? And you celebrate money. And I love it. Like, your pictures of, like, stacks of cash and you're like, yup, I'm owning this. And I'm going to do my tapping and aligning with the vortex. So, like, can you talk a little bit about how you realize that money can also be sacred?
Yeah. I mean, the thing about money that's interesting is that having it doesn't necessarily change your life that much, but it does take the pressure off and it does give you choices, and it does mean that you are not panicked every 31st of the month. And I believe that a lot of women are, you know, we're not taught about money. We are not comfortable with it. We feel like we should be. This is a very heteronormative conversation, but we feel like we should be with a man who has more money than us. He should provide for us. And even, like, we shouldn't be really aware of, like, the banking. We don't pay a lot of attention to that. And what I realized is when women have money and they're empowered around money, they take care of everybody. They feel good. They have the power to leave abusive relationships. They have the power to start companies and businesses that really do good in the world. And I feel like when you give women access to money and knowledge about money, then they change the world when with it. And that's why it's something that I'm so passionate about, and that's why it's so important to me. So when I started teaching about it, I was amazed by how small the tweaks are that we can just get this great change through. And, you know, my money course, radical rituals, abundance has been taken by, like, I don't know, 12,000 people at this point. And the results are wild. Like, it's so simple. We do tapping, we do some gratitude, we do some goddess work, but people are like, oh, I manifest. Manifested a hundred thousand dollars these two weeks. And then, oh, I manifested $250,000. And then someone was like, I manifested a million dollars.
I was like, I'm retaking my course.
Yeah, I'm gonna retake this. That's really amazing. But, yeah, it's so important that we feel good around money and that we recognize that how we feel about it impacts whether it comes to us more than anything. It's like, what are your thoughts about money? And that will tell me everything about your finances. If you're afraid of it, if you never feel like there's enough whatever, like, y your bank account looks like it's our responsibility to clean up how we feel around it. Yeah. It may not be fair that you don't have as much money as someone else. It may not be fair that you were never taught about it, but now you're an adult and you get to.
Be in charge 100%. I totally agree. And I see where a lot of people get stuck, especially with manifesting money, is, well, let's say I have a stable salary. Like, I can't make anymore. I'm not an entrepreneur to just, like, suddenly make more money. So what do you say to those people who are on salary?
You have to be open to the universe. Like, the universe. If you say to the universe, like, oh, I'm on a salary, so I can't make anything else. The universe is like, okay, bitch. Yeah, all right, whatever you say. But I have people who take the cost who get an inheritance or they win money or they're given these extravagant gifts, or they're upgraded on flights or hotels, or they find money in the street. Like every time I do like a tapping session with a client, I almost always find money in the street that same day. Like one day I found 125 bucks in the street. I was like, okay, cool. So there's always ways for the universe to delight you, but you have to open yourself up to that as being a possibility in your life.
Totally. And I think something you said in one of your videos, which I 100 resonate with, is that money gives you better quality problems.
Yep. Yeah, we have this. Well, a lot of us labor under the delusion that we shouldn't have problems. Firstly, problems make us grow. They force us to. Well, not even force. They invite us to become who we are supposed to be. But you're always going to have challenges. But yeah, if you have more money, you're going to have better quality problems. Like, oh, should I vacation in Italy or Greece this year? Like, I don't know. Sweet. I'll take that problem.
Right? Yeah. And I think a lot of us, you know, we grow up with the mentality of more money, more problems. Or, you know, if you have all this money, then the wrong people are going to come around you, or you're gonna have this huge responsibility or all your friends and families are gonna expect money from you. And like, all of these expectations make us block the money because we feel like we can't step up to it. And you know, it's not that more money, more problems or more money, less problems. Like, you're a human, you're always gonna have challenges. But it's like, who should I hire to grow my team versus like shit, how am I gonna get everything done on my own? And like, you could be like Tony Robbins. He still has problems every single day, but. And in some ways they are bigger. They're larger scale.
Yeah, more visibility.
More visibility. But at least he knows, like at the end of the day he's not. It's not between him like sleeping on the streets tonight or not. And for a lot of people, like are living paycheck to paycheck, that that is this constant stress which like Maslow's hierarchy, it like keeps you in that survival reptilian brain that you don't even have the energy to create.
Create. Exactly. You're never going to get to that place of self actualization when you're like, how do I pay my bills this week? What am I going to eat like you're never going to get to that place. And what you said about, you know, worrying about people taking advantage of you or having more problems with you, more money, those are all beliefs, they're limiting beliefs and they can be removed. And tapping is my favorite technique for doing that. You can literally remove those beliefs in about 15 minutes and they'll never come back. So there's kind of no excuse, actually. Like any shitty belief you have about money. Why don't you write it down and then tap that shit out? It'll change your life. It would be like maybe an afternoon of your life that will completely change your future.
Okay, so let's talk about tapping. Yeah, what is it?
Tapping is psychological acupressure. And you are tapping on meridian points in the body so that you can remove emotional blockages. And I used tapping to get rid of asthma, hay fever, cat allergies. I did that in the bathroom at a party once and an eating disorder overnight. So I have experienced the most amazing results with tapping. It's so powerful. It's the best tool I have in my toolkit and I love teaching it to people. Plus, it's fucking free and you can do it by yourself. Like nothing is better than that. I love it so much.
I had heard of tapping before, but it wasn't until you're tapping videos that I started to do it. And, and I'm obviously not a tapping expert, but I'll like make up my own. Like I was in New York on my, on my speaking tour, so I would just be in the cab and I would just be like, you know, tapping. But then I read this book on tapping and the way that they were teaching it was a bit different than how you were doing it. So now I see that there's all these different, like, point of views. So how, what does your tapping process look like?
My tapping process is I start by talking about whatever the problem is. I kind of circulate around the major ideas I have around it, whatever the circular, like the central belief and is. And then I talk about how that makes me feel. Maybe it makes me feel afraid or short of breath, or maybe it makes me feel like nothing I can do will go right or something like that. And then I start to just remove that by saying that I deeply and completely love, accept and forgive myself, which are words we very rarely say to ourselves, let alone other people. And then sometimes I make fun of the idea in the first place. I like to inject humor into it. And then I generally like to Finish it up by talking about the positive. Like, how I want to feel about this thing. So say the problem was that I don't have enough money in my bank account. I would talk about why I believe that maybe where that belief came from, maybe what I'd seen my parents experience in their lives. And then I would talk about how that makes me feel. Like, it makes me feel like I'm not good enough. It makes me feel like I can never change this. It makes me feel like this is a problem I'll have forever. And then maybe I'll make fun of myself. Like, you know, maybe I notice that I'm, like, sitting in a beautiful room and be like, this room, isn't that beautiful? Like, see, you can't even be in a beautiful place. And then I would talk about accepting, forgiving, loving myself. And then how do I want to feel? Like I'm grateful for everything that I have. That money comes to me easily. There's always more and more. My beliefs are getting stronger every day in the positive, you know, but it is like, sometimes people aren't comfortable tapping by themselves because you really are digging into your psyche, and people feel nervous about not having a guide there. So I've created this series called High Vibe, Honey, where every week I pull three tarot cards and then we tap on what's coming up. So if you've never tapped before, you can just tap along with me on YouTube. It's every Sunday. Sunday, super easy. And it's a really good introduction to tapping because it's not too serious and we have a good time and you'll feel really good afterwards.
Yeah, And I love your topics. They're just so funny. It's like tapping on being a bad bitch and, like, making it rain. Like. Or like the Kris Jenner meditation. It's just, like, so funny. Like, I just, you know, see stuff like that. Yeah. So when I was reading this book on tapping, it was, like, super focused on the problem. And, like, you keep really tapping on the problem, and you keep bringing that up for, like, a long time and maybe even do, like, a couple sessions that are just like that. But yours are very positive. So I was wondering if you kind of brought more of that Law of Attraction spin on it.
I don't know that I bring more of a Law of Attraction spin. Like, I think that something that makes people nervous who have followed Law of Attraction and then get into tapping is in tapping, you talk about the problem, and they're like, I don't want to fucking do that. I'm just going to create more of it, blah, blah, blah. But in tapping, you're acknowledging the problem so you can remove it. Like, tapping is like removing an emotional thorn from your body. Once you remove it, once you do, a session is gone. And if I think about. People used to interview me about like having an eating disorder and they'd be like, what was that like for you? I literally don't remember. It's like watching a movie of someone that I don't know. It's so far removed from my, like, psychological experience that I can't even identify with it anymore. So with tapping, you name it and identify it so you can release it. And you know, we do talk about the problem in, like, longer sessions. And when I'm tapping by myself, I will talk about the problem in more detail. But obviously when you're tapping for an audience and you don't know exactly where they're at or what they're going through, it's a little harder to do that.
Got it? Yeah. Because I wasn't sure if. Yeah, I figured it was more of a clinical way to like, really go into the problem and really bring up the emotion of what you're feeling in your body and tapping on that. So can you explain what are the points that people are tapping? Like, does it start with the top of your head or the karate chop point? Because I've seen both.
So it starts with the karate chop point, generally to tune into a problem.
And that's the side of your hand on the top of your hand.
It's along your little finger.
Okay.
So where your little finger connects to your arm, it's like that fleshy part of your hand there. So that's the karate chop point. And you just tap that to tune in. And also if you are feeling nervous or car sick or something like that, you can just tap here and not even say anything. It'll just calm your nervous system down. So it's a really good one. If you're in public and you don't want people to see you doing some crazy, but if you don't care, it's fine. And then the points are the top of the head, head start at the eyebrow temple, under the eye, under the nose, under the mouth, under the collarbone, under the armpit, and then your wrists together. And people tap in different ways. Like I tap on both sides of the body at once because I feel that it unites the masculine and the feminine energy. I feel like it brings the left and right sides of the brain together, but everybody's different. A Lot of people will just tap on one side of their body, and it's really up to whatever feels best to. To you.
Love that. So how many, like, rounds or, like, how many minutes normally is in a tapping session?
I mean, it really depends on what's going on. If you're tapping on something really serious, you might be tapping for half an hour, but if it's something pretty light and chill, it might only be a couple of minutes. So really, you just want to tap until you start. The feeling starts to shift and you can feel some movement. And typically with, you know, like a clinical setting, when you start to tap with a practitioner, they'll ask you at the beginning to rate your stress level about the subject on a scale of 1 to 10, and then again at the end, so you can really see if there's been a change. And often people will go from a 10 to a 2 or an 8 to a 4. And it's really useful to have the scale because, like I was saying about not connecting with the problem, sometimes you'll tap through it and then be like, oh, this isn't even a problem. Like, I don't even fucking care.
You forget where you were at?
Yeah. Like, I used to write down lists of everything I tapped on and I would look back at it like a month later and be like, I used to care.
Yes, totally.
It's really amazing. And that's why I'm so passionate about it. It really does solve problems so quickly.
So do you tap first thing in the morning or just when something comes up?
I just tap when things come up for me. Yeah. When I first started, I was probably tapping five or six times a day, every day, because I was like, I just want to get rid of any resistance I have. And it was very, very powerful.
Love that. And right now, what is your morning routine?
Look, my routine is I do whatever it takes for me to feel good. And sometimes it's like I make a coffee and I sit in the garden and I'm just like, oh, great. And sometimes I put on music and I dance around my house, and sometimes I text with a friend and it's different every time.
So do you have. Because a lot of people are super particular about morning routines, and I've been like, I've been trying so many different things. I feel like mine is very fluid. I don't have one that I swear by. So what is your thing with, like, technology and social media? Do you find that if you go on it in the morning, that will take you out of the vortex? Or do you think it just kind of depends on who you're following, how you're using it?
I think it depends on how you're using it and what meaning you ascribe to it.
Right.
Like, Instagram's not good or bad. It's whatever. You make it. Just like everything in life. It's like, what are you telling yourself about this thing? If you believe that getting on your phone first thing in the morning is gonna ruin your day, guess what? It's gonna ruin your day. It, to me, is just a tool. And I like to go on there and look at some stuff, and then I'm like, okay, whatever. Now I'm gonna create some stuff. And I try to. Well, not try to. I am more of a creator than a consumer, so I spend more time making things and looking at other people's things. And I also have a pretty strict rule about unfollowing people who start to become predictable or whose content I don't enjoy or who I feel are, like, I don't know, catering to the algorithm. I will be like, I want to see that. And I unfollow.
You're like, badly bad bitches only.
Yeah, absolutely. And, like, if people aren't inspiring me, then I'm not going to follow them 100%. Why would I? There's no obligation.
Yes. And it's so funny. I unfollowed so many people because I was like, why am I following all these, like, random accounts of, like, people I don't know, lives that I'm not even invested in them, but I'm seeing what they're doing every day, and it's just like, why am I watching what you're eating for dinner? Like, I don't even know you in person, you know? But I had, like, some of them, like, message, like, why did you unfollow me? I'm like, wow. People, like, are sitting around checking who's following them or not and that. I'm like, thank God I'm not following someone who does that. Because that speaks volumes about, like, who you are. If you would even message someone that.
Yeah, who kissed. Like, live your life. Your Instagram is not your life.
Yes.
Instagram is not your great work. Like, stop feeding all of your creative impulses into an app that you don't own. That's data mining. Like, this is not a good use of your time 100%.
And I think it's so important. I feel like Instagram's already, like, on the downturn right now. Like, people are. It's like, it's turning into Facebook. Like, it's so predictable. As you said, it's so pay to play play. It's so just like loud and obnoxious and most people aren't feeling good on there. Like, if we just took the like, overall temperature of it, it's just like a feel bad place.
Yeah.
And I think that's why people are just like, you know, taking these massive detox and getting off of it. And it's so important for people to have like their own books or work or, or whatever it is, because, you know, when this turns into my space, like, what. And you just spent your whole life working on it, then what do you have to turn back to? So if you, if you're like stressing out the algorithm right now, like, focus on creating something that's yours and that no one can take away from you.
Yeah. Think about what's your legacy? Your legacy is hopefully not memes and reposted quotes or something.
Right.
That's not a good legacy.
Yes.
Make something that is really meaningful, that really lasts. I know books seem old fashioned, but like, yeah, people will have them forever.
Yes.
And they're meaningful to people.
And I even tell, like, a lot of people, like, I can't write a book. That sounds like so much work. I'm like, you're kind of like doing one every day. Like, just the conversations we have, like, this could be a book. Like, we just, we just talked out a book, you know, and like, people are always explaining themselves or the amount of energy we put. Even the amount of energy I put on social media, I'm like, I could have done 20 more books in this amount of energy. So I think it's like we just put these certain things on these pedestals of like, oh, only people who are like, perfect grade A English students are able to write books. And it's like, no. Even if it's just like you're writing a chapter a month and, and putting that pressure of yourself that it's out that I have to. That's such an innovative way to just get your work out there and get yourself to start doing it.
Yeah. Sometimes you have to trick yourself into getting the work done and that's okay.
Yes.
It's not always easy to do creative work. There are roadblocks and challenges and there's going to be moments where it's hard and that's okay. But just trick yourself. Just trick yourself. Like, I used to have to tell myself that I used to have to trick myself into resting by telling myself that if I rested, I'd be more productive. If that's what it takes, then that's what it takes.
100%.
Yeah. You got to know how your brain works so that you can leverage it.
Oh, my God. When I was younger, I would be like, okay, if I go to gymnastics, I'll be able to eat the donut. So I would go to gymnastics to, like, eat the donut, like, do the thing. And then you kind of don't want the donut anymore, but you still want to exercise, Right?
Exactly.
So at the beginning, it's like, we just have to realize that we are human, want rewards.
Right.
We're like dogs. Like, give us treats. Like, give us things we like, and we will do it.
Yeah.
So use that for your advantage. Give. Treat yourself for the things that make you feel. We don't celebrate ourselves at all in our society. We're just like, oh, great, I did this accomplishment. What's next?
Yeah.
And then it's like, that's gonna make you not want to continue to create when the more you create, the more you have to work, and then you're just, like, digging yourself into this dark hole.
And the more that you work, like, if you're not celebrating the things then. And getting that thing, crossing it off your list doesn't feel like how you thought it would feel. So you're not excited to do the next thing. Get some friends around you who will celebrate your successes with you even in advance. Like, when I was doing my Vortex launch, I had dinner with friends, and we were celebrating me hitting my numbers, and it was still a week out. That's what it's fucking about. Put yourself in the feeling of that thing happening and really celebrate it with people who you love and people who are good to you.
So true. Yeah. This weekend, I was at a conference, and Elizabeth Gilbert was speaking.
I love her so much.
Yeah, it was awesome. I was emceeing it, so I got to, like, announce her and meet her for a little bit. But, like, one of the things she said, she's like, what if the purpose of your life is just to surround yourself by people that you love? And, like, that's the purpose. And I think it can be something just as simple as that. And I think really what she's trying to say is, when you surround yourself by people you love, you end up creating. But if you just make that the purpose, the rest will happen without you even trying.
Yeah. And it is so hard to live a good life when the people around you suck.
And we see a lot of People, I mean I'm sure you see it in your community who are the only ones in their, you know, in their city, state, country who are like this and they can feel really separated. And that's when things like social media are beautiful because they can connect you. Like, wow, there's this like pink haired unicorn talking about spirituality. Like there's space for me to be who I am too.
Absolutely. And like that's why, you know, there's so many amazing people creating communities. Like you have your community, I have my community, where we really are welcoming in these people who may feel like misfits, rebels, outcasts in their own lives. And we're like, fuck, come on in. You're exactly who we've been waiting for. Like, yeah, we're all like this.
Yes.
I had some of my LA membership girls, we went out to Dockweiler beach on Sunday and we did a ritual around a fire pit. And like, you know, it was just so good to be around people who want to talk about what you want to talk about and feel comfortable with them. And so many people are missing that experience and their lives are so much smaller than they could be because they're not seeking out that community of their own.
100 and I think it comes down to like, if you want a friend, be a friend. And so many of us are not willing, you know, we meet someone but we're not taking initiative. We're not actually taking the time out of our schedule to meet up. Like having a friendship as an an adult is work, you know, especially if you live in different sides of the city or wherever it is. Like you're gonna have to prioritize the friendship. And in our work oriented society it's like, well how is that gonna pay off to me? Like, is this friend gonna get me somewhere? If not, then I'm not gonna prioritize them. And then we end up so lonely.
We do or you know, you have been single for a while and you meet someone and you disappear, you abandon your friends. You know, that happens all the time too. But it, but it's like just like friendships are just like relationships. You know, we come to them being like, okay, well what are they going to give me? It's like, well what am I going to give to the friendship or the relationship? And it's really important that we think about like, what am I bringing, what am I contributing, how am I being supportive? And you know, it's not all about us. Like, how can you support other people? There's this course in miracles thing that I quote all the time, although I totally misquote it, so I'm not totally sure how it goes, but it's something like, only what I am not giving, am I not receiving? Which is basically like, if your friends aren't supporting you or, you know, you don't feel like, what, they're not doing something that you want them to do, are you doing that for them? And often, if you look at your behavior, you're like, oh, I'm not really doing that 100%.
Even, like, money. Like, if you're not giving, if you're being stingy, you're not not donating to the causes that matter to you. You're like, why aren't people paying me, like, up to wazoo? It's like, well, like, how is your flow going?
Right? Are you generous? How do you pay the people that you have working for you? Are you. Are you generous with them? Do you give them bonuses? Or are you fucking tight with your money stack? It's not hot.
Energy tight is not hot.
In this case, it is going on.
Keep it loose, keep it gooey.
Yes, exactly. Exactly.
Awesome. Well, it was so awesome chatting with you about all things Vortex. I love your energy, I love your vi. I love what you're putting out into the world. Like, I feel like more people need to just, like, be boldly themselves. And that is actually, you know, you not fitting into the box. The things that you are probably the most criticized for are the things that make you the most attractive to people.
Yeah. Thank you so much.
Thank you for sharing that. And where can listeners connect with you?
Well, we did talk a lot of shit about Instagram today, but I have one. But I have one. It's gala, darling. It's very pink. It's a very fun place to be. And then I have my Vortex membership as well. So all the information about that is@galadarling.com.
And check out her High Vibe Honey videos.
And check out my High Vibe honey videos on YouTube. Yes.
And her Kris Jenner meditation. Yes. Might just give you that perfect business plan.
It's pretty great. I guide you into a coffee shop and you are having a meeting with Kris Jenner, and you sit down and just talk to her, and she just gives you you advice and you, like.
Manifested in real life. I saw you bumped into all of them, but Chris wasn't there.
I know. I went to Nobu and, like, almost all of the Kardashians were there. I was like. I was so excited. That's amazing. I love it.
Well, thank you so much for sharing.
Thank you for having me.
Yay. I feel good. I knew that I would.
Oh, I feel you.
Nice. Don't you want to sing that song right now? So important to feel good. You know, that's really what matters. At the end of the day, it's so important we don't take the spiritual path so seriously and get so in our heads about it and so strict and rigid and confined because it's taking us away from what spirit is endless. Blissful, ecstatic. So this podcast was a beautiful reminder for you to focus on what makes you feel truly good. If you loved this episode, I would love if you could leave me a review in the iTunes store.
