A Game with a Point (Learning How to Build Bridges)

Sandi L Boucher presents a Would You Rather game designed to explore cultural differences and find common ground between people. The exercise uses simple choices to reveal what we share across cultures and where we differ.

So I wanted to start off this week doing something a little bit different. We're going to play a game, a game I use and do in the seminar all the time, but it's a game with a point. So I'm hoping you enjoy the game and I'm really hoping you stick around for the point. Let's talk about it. Hi, everybody. My name is Sandy Boucher. I'm Red Thunderbolt, woman of the Loon clan, a proud member of Seine River First Nation in Treaty 3 Territory in Northern Ontario. And as I mentioned in the opening today, we're going to play a game. Now, we're going to do it a little bit different than I would in seminar because obviously we're not in the same room, but I think this will go okay. So we are going to play a game of. Would you rather. I'm certain you've played it before. I'm going to give you two choices. Sometimes neither choice is desirable. The point is you have to pick one. So. And yeah, pick the one you can tolerate the most. I guess you do. You boo. You pick whichever one you want and I'm going to share with you my answer. So I guess there's also a challenge in the comments. I want to hear how many answers we had in common. I do not want you trying to convince me to change my answer. I want you just to accept what my answers are. You can share with me what your answers were if you want to. Totally up to you. But I'm very interested to see how many times we choose this same thing. I'll explain that at the end of this video. So, first off, imagine that you have an appointment this afternoon. Would you rather one, that appointment was with a doctor, or two, that appointment was with the dentist. Doctor or dentist, which would you rather? Now? Me. That's an easy one. Even though going to a doctor may involve some scary news. Not a big fan of the dentist. I go religiously. I have an amazing dentist with an amazing team. But not a fan. Not a fan. Okay, second question. You're home after a busy day of doing whatever. How are you going to relax? Are you going to one, watch TV or two, listen to music? TV or music? I'm watching TV now. I love listening to music. I listen to music almost every single day. Second of my day, I probably would rather say that, but the truth is I'm spazzing on the couch watching tv. It is what it is. Next question. I love doing this one in seminar because everyone freaks out. It's actually quite funny. Okay, so you are given a pet from someone you absolutely love. So there's no way you're returning this. Maybe even it's just a pet you have to take care of for six months. We'll make it easier on you. Would you rather look after a lizard? Number one or two, a snake lizard or snake lizard? All the way. Lizard all the way lizard. Next question. You are going on an all expenses paid vacation. Would you rather it was one, a beach holiday or two, a mountain holiday? Beach or mountain, which are you preferring? Beach, baby. All the way. I'm laying on the beach. All good. Next one. I don't even know what number we're on. That's okay. Next one. Would you rather you're given a superpower? You get to choose between two of them. The first one, one, the ability to be invisible to the ability to read minds. I'm going hardcore. Number one, I want to be invisible. Cuz there's no way I'm dealing with hearing what you guys are thinking. No way. No way. Okay, now were gifted things previously. Now we got to take something away. You got to choose what you're going to do without for the rest of your life. Are you going to go without one television or two? Fast food? Television or fast food? That's a tough one because I'd like to give up both, which means I probably should. I'm giving up fast food. Okay. Don't eat it that often anyway. So we're gonna be good. Oh, this is an interesting one for older women. Would you rather one, be always hot, two be always cold? Which one? This is a no win scenario for me because if I'm cold, I'm in pain. If I'm hot, I'm grumpy. It's no win. I'm gonna go hot. I'm gonna go hot. I'll learn to deal with it. Oh, this is always a good one. We're getting to the end here. Would you rather one, be stranded on a deserted island all alone or two, be stranded on a deserted island with someone you don't like? I'm taking number two. I'm going with someone I don't like. And the last one we're gonna do, you're given a superpower again. Would you rather one, have the ability to see the future or two, have the ability to change the past? If you know anything about my channel, you should not be surprised that I'm going with number two. I'm going back and changing the past so that the oppression of indigenous people never happened and we could all be enjoying a much better better relationship Now I told you that game had a point I. I don't even know how many questions I did I guess when I edit the video I can count them but I am wondering say for example I'm guessing here now say I gave you eight and we had six of them the same I don't know your cultural background. Maybe it's the same as mine maybe it's not. Maybe your culture played into your answers maybe it didn't no matter. We had six out of eight things we agreed on and you didn't have to stop being you and I didn't have to stop being me I think that's how you build the bridge Canada. I don't have to become you to have things in common with you and the difference is. Well that just makes it fun I hope that made sense I hope you enjoyed it I will see you tomorrow with more thought provoking probably not another game but some information until tomorrow I love you. Take care. Bye bye.
