AI - Artificial Intelligence or Aboriginal Injury (Another Way to Silence Indigenous Voices)

Sandi L. Boucher, from Seine River First Nation, reframes AI as Aboriginal Injury, arguing that automated systems risk erasing Indigenous lived experience. After reclaiming her voice from colonialism and domestic violence, she refuses to let bots replicate it, insisting on the irreplaceable value of Indigenous perspectives told directly.

AI. AI. AI. In my world, it's all I hear about nowadays. But what if I told you that in my world it stands for Aboriginal Injury or assault? Indigenous. Let's talk about it. Hi, everybody. My name is Sandy Boucher. I'm Red Thunderbolt, woman of the Loon clan. I, a proud member of Seine River First Nation in Treaty 3 territory in Northern Ontario. And we gotta talk about AI. I mean, seriously. And I get it. I totally get it. It's. It's amazing and it's new and it's exciting and it could definitely take some monotonous tasks on so you don't have to do them. But every single day I lose count of how many marketing type people reach out to me and want to sell me on the idea of AI. And most of them, Are you ready for this? Most of them think it would be amazing for me if I got AI Artificial Intelligence. Write my blog posts for me. Okay, you get a point if you figure out why that's problematic before I tell you. If you followed my channel for any length of time, this should not be a challenge. Let's think about it. I'm an Anishinaabe, an Ojibwe woman, an indigenous woman in Canada. I lost my voice for so, so many years thanks to so many things. Colonialism, domestic violence, the pressure of assimilation, the pressure to fit into a box I was never born into. And then I finally found my voice. Then I got really super gutsy and started sharing it. Started sharing my perspective so that employers can understand why they're not able to keep their employees, their indigenous employees. I've built a career on it. Now they want me to turn that voice over to a bot, to artificial intelligence. What's the odds that bot is going to share an indigenous perspective? What's the chance that bot is going to have lived experience. Experience? What's the chance that that bot is going to have my passion or my commitment? Because that's what's in my blog posts. So at this point in time, AI no, that's not going to work for me. I would be dying to hear if it would work for you and how it would work. I mean, I'm open to the idea. I'm just not going to let it take my voice. I hope that makes sense. Until tomorrow, I have a whole week of amazing videos and blog posts for you. Comment below. Get on my email list if you want to receive it right in your inbox. You have a choice between weekly or daily. I am making this so easy for you. Why? Because I'M trying to bring a country together. That's going to take more than just me until tomorrow. I love you. Take care. Bye. Bye.
