TEDx Orange Coast — "Living Beyond Limits" by Amy Purdy

Oh my God. Oh my God. Oh my God. Okay, so, true story. It's Saturday when I'm recording this. It's my day off. I am not supposed to be working. But I was so pumped to share this with you, I just had to race into my office to do this. So what if I told you I can show you an image that I think with a little bit of information could benefit you for the rest of your life? And I don't know you, I don't know what challenges you're facing. I'd be willing to bet you're facing some though. Or you have. I know you have. But this image could be one that, if you remember it, is going to help you for the rest of your journey. If I told you that, would you want to see the image? I bet you would. So let's talk about it. Bonjour. Hi, everybody. My name is Andy Boucher. I'm Red Thunderbolt, woman of the Loon clan. A proud member of Seine River First Nation in Treaty 3 Territory in Northern Ontario. And yes, today is Saturday. Today is my day off. Today is a take in day. What I mean by that is on my down days, I tend to watch. Now I'm going to hear a whole bunch of people groan over this. I know, but trust I'm doing it because I love it. On Saturdays, I like to watch inspirational motivational videos. Things that get me in line with my true spirit. Fill up my cup so I can give to you. And that's what I was doing. So just so you know, because if you want to go check this out, I highly suggest you check it out. I don't have a handy dandy index card. I have my notebook. What does this say? We rise by lifting others. Someone gifted me this because they saw that saying and thought of me. How absolutely beautiful is that? My hair is doing something funky. We're going to ignore that. I was watching. It's a TEDx talk. I subscribed to the TED videos. So this one took place. It was the TEDx Orange coast event and it's Living Beyond Limits with Amy Purdy. I cannot recommend this video. Higher. Like you seriously gotta watch it. And she starts out her video by asking a question that I think we should all contemplate. If your life were a book and you were the author, how would you want your story to go? If you were. If your life were a book and you were the author, how would you want your story to go? So I'm. I'm not going to tell you the main part of the video. You definitely got to watch the video. I'll link it in the video notes below. But at one point, something happens, and the life she pictured herself leading pretty much becomes not a possibility. There was a point where she wasn't even sure, or other people weren't sure she was going to survive. The point is, she gets to a point in her journey where she has to let go of the old her, let go of the old version of herself that she had pictured for so long. And that's where my mind exploded. Because I am incredibly successful compared to the woman I used to be. I. I couldn't have even pictured living the life I live now. I can so easily remember a time in my life that I wouldn't even contemplate going to a store, not even a secondhand store, because buying new clothing, or even to me, clothing was so far out of my budget, that wasn't even a possibility. And now I do it when the mood strikes and serious. And I'm not doing that to brag. That is the surreal nature of my life that I just have so much to be thankful for. But every now and then, I'm still hanging on to the limitations of the old me. Still, still hanging on to, as Amy describes it, the borders, the limitations of the old me. The limitations that the old me knew, forgetting what the newest version of me has accomplished. And that's when I remembered a picture that I had my graphic designer design for me so long ago. And here's the image now, of course, this has such huge significance for me as Anishinaabe Kwe, as an Ojibwe woman, because it's the eagle. And the eagle flies above everything, not because he's better than, but because that gives them the view of absolutely every aspect of a situation or a challenge. And the strength of the ego, the endurance of the ego, is everything we look up to, which is why we so value our sacred eagle feathers. But look at the image. If the eagle chooses to carry baggage and limitations and the borders of past years, even the mighty eagle will get weighed down. So the next time you tell yourself you can't, maybe it's time to let go of the talons and put that weight down. Because if you're even thinking of doing something, I believe that's creator trying to show you who he designed you to be, what you should be doing. And no, not, of course, the bad stuff. You shouldn't be doing the bad stuff. I mean, living up to the best you, the you who believed in everything, the probably four year old. Before people told you you couldn't. Before people, you know, before the bad scores, they got you to doubt your intelligence. Before the partner broke up with you and. And got you to doubt your attractiveness or your appeal to other people. Put down the doubt. Put down the limitations of the old you that. I watched another video where they talked about your lizard brain. And the lizard brain is that voice in your head that keeps telling you, I could never do this. I could never. They would never listen to me. I could never do this. That's not God talking. That's not creator talking. That's the lizard. And the lizard talks loud. Don't be listening to the lizard. So today I want you. You know what? If you email me sandy@sandy boucher.com, i will send you that image. Print it, put it somewhere. Every single time you doubt yourself, put the doubt down and then start enjoying all you can do. Watch how you fly to heights yet never even imagined before. Do I believe it could happen? Of course I do. Because it's happened for me. And now that I've seen this and realized I was still carrying some stuff, just wait to see what I do next. I love you. Take care. Bye. Bye.
