ONE BIG REASON Why Reconciliation is NOT Happening!

Red Thunderbolt, of the Loon clan, Seine River First Nation, argues reconciliation stalls because people treat it like a once-a-year event instead of daily practice. She compares it to taking meds: consistency matters more than occasional gestures on June 21 or September 30. Real progress needs Indigenous people in meetings and allies who listen instead of speaking for them.

Okay, so yesterday I talked about the fact that I've been doing some work and I'm getting healthier. And that's largely to do with the fact that I take my meds every day and thank Brendon Bouchard for that. Med stands for meditate, exercise, diet and sleep. Those are the four things I've been focusing on. But there's something else that is key to success in the getting healthy realm than I realized is a key to success in the reconciliation realm. Trust me, I was surprised. You might be too. Let's talk about it. Hi everybody. My name is Andy Boucher. I'm Red Thunderbolt, woman of the Loon clan and a proud member of Seine River First Nation in Treaty 3 Territory in Northern Ontario. And as I mentioned in the opening, I've been doing really good at taking my meds every day, making sure to meditate, getting in that exercise, watching my diet and what I eat and making sure I get a solid 7 hours sleep every night. And I have been listening to the mentors and the guides and watching the videos and inspiring myself. And I notice the one message kept coming up. No matter which speaker or guide or mentor I was listening to, success always seemed to be tied to the same thing, consistency. When it came to health or losing weight or whatever the case may be, they pointed out that doing a long hard workout once every six months really isn't going to do a lot. But if you get in extra slight steps every single day, that's where the difference is. Did you realize the correlation? Imagine my surprise when I realized, holy crap. That's why we're not seeing any big advancements in the whole realm of reconciliation. Because some Canadians and more every year are recognizing June 21 and September 30. But reconciliation isn't really part of their day to day routine. I mean, I even tried sending out a blog post every single day because I wanted that consistency. And trust me, I have a die hard group that's on my daily email list and I love them because they are making this conversation part of their everyday. It's free five minutes. But most people want to be on my weekly list and that's okay. At least they're letting me in weekly. We got to do better than June 21 and September 30. And right now the only people that I see having these conversations on a regular basis are either people like me that are committed to reconciliation and that's our area of expertise, or people that are working directly with indigenous communities and people and hopefully not blaming us for their challenges they're facing or seeing in their client group or mainstream that wants to sell to us. And again, it depends. Are they looking internal at their process or blaming us because we're not buying? So on that we got to have this conversation more often. We have to bring indigenous people in more often. We should be in those meetings and allies please. That's part of your job. You're going to events and not seeing indigenous people represented. You need to ask the organizers, why are we not there? Don't speak for us. Just hold open the door so we can come in. Does that make sense? Does consistency make sense to you? I would love to hear what successes you've had because of consistency. What mountains have you climbed? One step at a time. Comment below. I'd love to hear. Don't forget to subscribe so you get all these awesome videos. And again, please share it with someone, especially if they need to be having this discussion way more often. Until tomorrow. I love you. Take care. Bye bye.
