Raise that Bar! (Expanding on Personal Power Principle #11)

A short motivational YouTube talk by Sandi L Boucher (Red Thunderbolt, Seine River First Nation) expanding on Personal Power Principle #11: "You will forever be limited by the barriers you choose to defend." Sandi shares autobiographical examples — including being a 10-year domestic abuse survivor and choosing a business income goal of $100,000 — to illustrate how self-limiting beliefs block growth and how changing one’s internal narrative opens new opportunities. The talk ends with a single homework: stop defending barriers and reframe limits as "not yet."

Bonjour, Mishko Paganan Kwei nidhina Kasmang do dam. Hi, everybody. My name is Sandy Boucher. I'm Red Thunderbolt, woman of the Loon clan. A proud member of Seine river first nation in Treaty 3 territory. And I'm here at as promised to expand on personal power principle number 11. And honestly, this is all the apples. This is the one. If you're not realizing how amazing you are, how strong, how powerful, how needed, how here on purpose, this is the one you got to embrace. This is it. This is the cornerstone. So what is it? Well, here's the reminder. You will forever be limited by the barriers you choose to defend. Now, the truth is, I have spent my entire life, and I think everybody I know can say the same thing. We have spent our entire lives telling ourselves we can do something. There is no way I'm gonna pass that test. There is no way they're gonna hire me. I could never graduate from college, university. There is no way everyone, anyone is ever gonna love me. And the reality is, I bet you could look back on your life and think of things that you said you'd never be able to do. And you did it. Do you have a driver's license? I'd be willing to bet at one point in time you didn't think you could. Do you have a high school diploma? I'd be willing to bet there were exams that scared the daylights out of you. And by the way, if you don't have a high school diploma, you're not done yet. You're still here. So if that's important to you, go get that piece of paper. You can do it as soon as you stop telling yourself you can't. Now, I'm being a smart aleck here and I know how serious this is. Because remember, I'm a 10 year domestic abuse survivor. There was a time that I didn't believe I was lovable. I didn't believe anyone could care about me. I believed I was a horrible mother. I believe my kids would be better off without me. And by the way, all of that was wrong. But it wasn't wrong in that time period when I was telling myself, because you will forever be limited by the barriers you choose to defend. So what barriers are you defending? Think of some crazy dream you would like. There was once upon a time when I thought it would be absolutely insane if I made a hundred thousand dollars running my business. Brought in that much business in a year. Because I didn't think it was possible. I set my bar so Much lower. And I achieved those bars for an absolutely crazy idea. I decided, you know what? I'm going for it. I'm gonna go for. I am going to earn $100,000. Guess what happened? I had to raise the bar. Why? I stopped telling myself I couldn't. And my spirit pointed out ways I could. If you stop telling yourself you can't, your spirit will start to notice doors you can walk through that will help you achieve those dreams. But if you keep telling yourself that you can't, if you keep defending the barriers, your spirit can hear you and it doesn't want to make a liar out of you. So it's gonna stop you. Just like you said, that wall's gonna stop us. I guess we can't get past it then. It doesn't matter what other people think, because there's a whole bunch of people out there that are gonna tell you you can't achieve your dreams that nobody's gonna love. You met those type of ick. Gotta move those out of your life. But the important person is you. And even if you never tell anyone else that you believe you were put on this planet to succeed, just keep telling yourself. Because I remember sitting in a shelter for abused women telling myself that I was not meant to be here. Not because I was better than anyone else, but because no one deserves to be. Be there. And guess what? When I started telling myself I didn't deserve it, I found better roads to travel. I found better people to hang around with. People that believed in me until I could. So one more time, here is personal power principle number 11. You will forever be limited by the barriers you choose to defend. There is only one homework assignment this week, my friend. Stop defending the barriers. Start asking what if? Or if you need to say, I can't do this. Say, I can't do this. Yet. I can't achieve $100,000 yet. I haven't found my dream partner yet. I haven't reached my weight goal yet. Get out of your own way. Because all those voices that say you can't, that's colonialism. That's critics. That's people you don't need in your corner. Creator did not put you here to fail. If you're not thriving, fix the environment. You don't fix the flower. You, my friend, are a flower. And you can succeed. I believe in you. Until next week. I love you. Take care. Bye bye.
