Teaching Tuesday - Teachings Found in a Textbook

Sandi L. Boucher (Seine River First Nation) delivers a short Teaching Tuesday video using the metaphor of life as a textbook: each chapter offers lessons to learn and exercises to practice. She recounts key life "chapters" (losing her father at chapter 17, relationship identity struggles around chapter 40, her mother's death at age 42, and being in chapter 56 while 11 years in business) to illustrate choosing what to carry forward and leaving room for new opportunities.

Foreign. Hi, everybody. My name is Sandy Boucher, Red Thunderbolt, woman of the loon clan. I'm a proud member of Seine River First Nation in Northern Ontario. And I'm here today with this week's Tuesday teaching, which can be summed up as teachings found in a textbook. Now, it's been a while since I've been in school, gotta be honest. But yeah. So finding a textbook in my home, especially since I'm in the middle of moving, a little bit of a challenge. But I did find how to write a book and become a published author by Brian Tracy. Shout out to Brian Tracy. He doesn't need a shout out, but he definitely deserves one. My point is, forget about the title here. Do you see these tabs? Do you see these sections or chapters? Every single one of them has instructions. It has something for you to learn. It has an exercise for you to do. And once you move on, you now have the wisdom that it offered you. I think you can already guess where I'm going with this, right? Life is a textbook. I'm on chapter 56. I can look back and see chapter one to chapter 17 was so amazing. That taught me love and value and trust and. And support. Chapter 17 is where I lost my dad. So now I entered this very confusing stage and I really. A low self esteem, a low self confidence stage that I really didn't come out of until chapter 40. In chapter 40, I had a question to ask myself. My relationship had just ended and I asked myself. I wanted to know what would I watch on TV if some guy wasn't holding the remote. And that's not a slam to the guys out there. That was an acknowledgement that every single time I got in a relationship, I became the person that that man wanted me to be. As cliche as it sounds, I. I wasn't even sure who Sandy was anymore. So my challenge and that question was just my way of saying, who are you? What do you want? What matters to you? What life are you going to lead? I was 42 when my mom passed away. And another incredibly hard chapter, but one that saw me accept my role as matriarch and the responsibility to not only run my own life, but to be an example of how to do that. At chapter 56, I'm 11 years in business, living my dream and loving every second of it. We choose what we bring into a new chapter. We choose what we learned in previous chapters. We could bring resentment, we could bring disappointment, or we can choose to heal that in this chapter so that we have all the room to learn everything that the next chapter has to offer. Does that make sense? I made a commitment a long time ago to travel light. Metaphorically. Anyone who's actually really traveled with me knows that doesn't really apply. I bring more suitcases than anyone thinks I need, but in life I take the lesson and leave the rest. I want to always make sure that there's room in my suitcase for everything else. The Creator still wants to descend. I hope you leave room. I hope you leave room for new people and new opportunities and new things to learn. That way, when we get to the end in the final chapter, we can look back over a lifetime of amazing lessons. That's what I hope for you until next week, my friend. I hope you enjoyed that. Take it with you through. Think about it. Ponder it. Learn from it. Share this video if you think that it'll resonate with other people. And please take the time to care for you until next week. I love you. Bye bye.
