THE REAL STEP 9 OF A Day That Changed Everything - Empowerment Quiz Examined

Video transcript of Sandi L. Boucher revisiting an "empowerment quiz" as part of the course "A Day That Changed Everything." The speaker reviews each quiz statement one-by-one, clarifies intended meanings (e.g., decision-making power, access to information, range of options, assertiveness in group decisions, ability to change perceptions, growth mindset, initiating change, feeling in control of one’s life), and encourages learners to reassess their scores and take action. The segment situates the quiz within the MECCA life strategy — specifically the E (environmental awareness) — and includes supportive, conversational coaching and an invitation to contact the instructor for help.

Hello, my friend. This is Andy Boucher, Mishkopagnan Kwai, Nadish Lingas Mundo Dam. And welcome back to a day that changed everything. No matter what day you're thinking about now, I hope you're enjoying this course so far. I know I am really enjoying putting my seminar out in video form so that so many more people will be able to enjoy it from the comfort of their own home. Because we're talking about some incredibly personal things here. And I love that you can do this and take this time and watch and rewatch and rewatch again. A video if you need be. Now, today we're looking at video 8. Can you believe it? Oh, my God. We are more than halfway through this course. Now. We're still looking at the Mecca life strategy. The M was mental awareness. What's going on in your head? And today is actually the last video on the E, which is environmental awareness. What's going on in your world, in your family, in your circle of influence, if you want to go there, and how is it affecting you? And that's something we really need to focus on. But as always, before I do that, I did want to just say, holy moly, you're here. And I know I make a big deal out of that every video. And I know you probably think it's no big deal. Talk to people in my industry. We know one, how much effort we put out there in trying to get you to believe in you. And two, how many people just don't put in the time to even just listen to the video. I know some of those exercises are challenging and hard, and maybe you're just not in the space to do them right now, and that's absolutely okay. But the fact that you're watching this video, the fact that right now, in this moment, you're saying, you know what? I'm important. My life journey is important. How I feel is important. That is so huge. And I celebrate that because that is the kind of attitude that is going to take you from whatever challenge you're going through to that place, that life that you dream of. So welcome. I'm so thrilled that you're here. Now, before I say anything else, you know what I'm gonna ask? What am I gonna ask? What is it? What is it? How are you? I hope you screamed awesome at the screen. And again, like always, if you didn't, if you forgot, if you didn't have enough coffee this morning, then I want you to back this up and do it again and scream it and get anyone else in the House to join you if you can. If they look at you funny, too bad. You're awesome. It doesn't even matter now. Last week was the quiz week. I got you to download the empowerment quiz, and I hope you took the time to go through it now. But in all honesty, the wording of that quiz. I got to rework that quiz. We got a lot of $15 words happening there. My mom would not be happy with that quiz. And just in case I haven't explained it before, when I say $15 words that' big, fancy words that we shouldn't assume that everyone understands. My mom insisted and was adamant with the idea that no matter how educated a person becomes, that they should always talk like they're talking to their grandma. My mom stressed that we don't have the right to make someone else feel stupid by using words that they don't understand. And for a lot of years, I was the person who felt stupid. I was totally intimidated by academics and their big $15 words. And I just felt like everyone else in the room understood but me. And it wasn't until I was a lot older, like late 40s, even when I realized not understanding a word that I've never heard before has nothing to do with my intelligence. It has everything to do with my if I haven't heard it before, how could I possibly know what it means if I've never read it? I've never seen the definition. How could I know? I'm not stupid. I just never experienced this before. So then I became a master of putting up my hand and saying, excuse me, that word you just used, do you mind explaining? And I've never heard that before. The funniest part, and what I didn't see coming was there's a whole bunch of people out there using words that they can't explain to people. Keep that in mind. Do not be intimidated. It's just your experience. And now you're having the experience. Find out what it means and continue on. But as I mentioned last week you downloaded that quiz and hopefully you rated each statement on a scale of one to five. One. No, it definitely didn't apply to you. Ten. Absolutely. You were rocking it. Those statements are so incredibly important that I wanted to go over them with you in this video. I really wanted to make sure that you understood what I was asking and what you were answering. And here's your chance to really think about it, review it, and change your score if need be. So we're going to go through the quiz again one at a time. I'm going to do it with you. And remember, this is not about beating yourself up. This is the start of an action plan. You need to know where you are so you can get to where you want to go. So this is not about, don't be embarrassed or whatever. If you're struggling, struggling in one area, well, now you know the area you need to focus on. That's a good thing. That's not a negative. Now so the very first statement. And you know what, before I go through this, take a second, I'm going to pause this video or get you to pause this video so you can go get your quiz. I have a copy of mine right here. Make sure to go get yours so that we can go through this together. Okay, so if you need to pause the video now, as I was saying, the very first one says, I have decision making power of my own. Now I know when I did this in Live seminar, a lot of people wanted to score really low on this. No, I don't have decision making power. And it's like, really? Did you decide what to wear today? Okay, that's one decision. Did you decide what to eat? Whether for breakfast, for lunch? Are you going to decide what to eat tonight? Did you decide to go to work or not? Did you decide to get out of bed? Did you decide to shower? Did you decide to talk to the other people in your house or not? Maybe you decided not to. That's decision making power. Often when people see that statement, they think, well, I can't do whatever job I want to. I can't be the prime minister of the country because they won't let me. That's true. Maybe you don't have that, that decision, the power to make that decision, but that doesn't mean you don't have decision making power. Did you choose your partner? Did you choose to have children? And even if you didn't choose to create them, you chose to keep them, right? Did you choose where you live? Even if you're still in the same place where your parents lived, you chose to stay there. Do you see what I mean? So take a second to think through that again. How much decision making power do you really have? And we're not talking about do you make the decisions if you wanted to, could you? How much power do you have even if you never choose to use it? Okay, so do you see why this is important to review? Lots of things to consider in that tiny little statement. We're going deep on these things. The next one, I have them written behind the screen again. Can you tell, I'm just looking off into the distance. No, I am paying attention to you. The second statement. I have access to information and resources to help me make good decisions. I'm going to tell you right now, unless you are in very specific circumstances, like for example, if you're a resident in a far northern, remote nation community, then maybe you would score lower on this one. Everybody else should be like a 9 or 10 on this. And here's why. The first three, I have access. If you have Internet, then you have access to information and resources. If your town has a library, you have access to information and resources. If you know any person that knows more than you, you have access to information and resources. This is not asking, do I ask or do I use that access or do I go get the information? It's asking, do you have access? And I'd be willing to bet you do. Please keep that in mind the next time you come up against something you don't understand, you have access. Google it. Ask for help. Go to the library. Once the libraries are open again, you know what I mean? Do you have access to information? Not do I use the information. Okay, now, you might have a very limited data plan, or maybe you're a teenager and your mother doesn't allow you to use the Internet past 7 o', clock, you still have access. Maybe not when you want to have access, but you still have access. So I'm hoping, I'm thinking that you should be scoring really high on this one. Again, can you see why we needed to review these? The next one. I have a range of options from which to make choices. Not just yes or no or either or. Let's use the getting dressed example again. You had a range of options of things you could wear today. Now, if you're anything like me, there's a whole bunch of things in your closet you don't even like wearing. And someday I should decide why they're even there. But I have those choices. It's not. Now, the students that are in uniform to go to school don't have those choices. They have a couple options. They can choose between the cardigan or just the shirt. That's about it. They have to wear the uniform. So you see the difference. It's not just either or. It's not just yes or no. It's not just, do I get dressed today or do I not get dressed today? It's not just, do I get out of bed? Right. There are some nations that are incredibly legislated, very restrictive. What this is to help you Realize is you have a lot of choices on any given day. Maybe not all the choices you would like to have, but we're going to start celebrating and using it to empower us. Celebrate the ones that we do have. So I think you can see that you probably have a range of options. There was probably a few things that you could have for breakfast or a few things you could have for lunch. Maybe you can't have what you want, but that doesn't mean you don't have choices to choose from. It's not just A or B. And even if some choices are A or B, I bet other choices. Yeah, there's a whole bunch of different movies you can watch on Netflix. It's not just A or B. Do you see my point? You can go on YouTube. There's 5 million videos you can watch. It's not just A or B. So again, you have a range of options. My guess, unless you've got some really restrictive circumstances going on, you're going to score high on this one as well. So maybe you're more empowered than you thought you were before you started this quiz. I think that was my point. Okay, next one. Now, this one, I don't know what you're going to score. This one is, I exercise assertiveness in collective decision making. So let's break that down. Let's look at collective decision making first. That means whenever a group of you guys get together to make a decision, the group might be you and your partner deciding what to have for dinner. It might be you and your partner deciding what to watch on TV or watch on Netflix. It might be you and your kids deciding what you're going to have for a meal. That would be the group that's the collective. Now, when it says you exercise assertiveness, what that means is you share your opinion. You don't just ask them what they want and never say anything. You share what you want as well. You don't do it aggressively. You're not the bully and forcing them to listen to you. And you're not, you know, subservient and just quiet and not saying anything. You're assertive. This is my opinion, and that doesn't mean that you get your way when you're in a group. I share my opinion, you share your opinion. They share their opinion, and together we decide on one of them. And sometimes it might be mine, sometimes it might not be. This question is asking, do you share your opinion, or are you one of those people that say whatever you want? The point is, if you're one of those people that always say whatever you want. For one, I'd be willing to bet sometimes that makes you feel very disempowered, like you don't have a say and you just did it to yourself. And two, over time, that's going to become a horrible habit. And you can see how it would lead to you feeling like you don't have any power at all. The easiest way to get past this is to start sharing your opinion on the little things. Right? Like let's have soup for dinner. What kind of soup do you want? Well, I was thinking chicken noodle. Well, I want a tomato. Okay. We could have tomato. Just because you agreed with them doesn't mean you did share your opinion. That's the important part. That's the habit. I want you to get into being assertive and using your voice. The more you use your voice, the more empowered you're going to be. You don't need to lord it over everyone. You don't need to be the bully, but share your voice. So score that one whichever way works for you. The next one again, I hope you score high on this one. But I don't know you, so you know you. You have the power. You're the expert on you. I feel positive about my ability to make changes. So the important part here is, if you chose to, could you make change? If you chose to leave wherever you're living now and move somewhere else, could you. If you really wanted to, could you do that? If you chose to go back to school, could you do that? If you chose to learn something new, cook something new, learn how to make something, do you think you can do it? If you feel positive that you could make a change, if you decided to, then you should be scoring high on this. This is assuming that you've chosen to make the change. I'm not talking about someone forcing you to change, but you feel positive about your ability. If you wanted to make a change, you could. And I mean really want to. Because there's all those people out there. I'm an ex smoker, so I can say this. There's all those people out there that say, I really want to quit Smok. But it's really hard. You don't really want to quit yet. When you really want to quit, you'll do it. Ask any mom who has ever done anything or stood up for a kid, right? If your child is threatened. I've watched mom pretty much move mountains and I'm pretty sure it's the same for dads too. If you decided you wanted to. Do you believe you have the ability to make change? That's how you should score that statement. The next one again, do you have the ability. This one's, I have the ability to learn skills to improve my personal or group power. What does that mean by that? Well, I think we know what personal power is. The more skills you have, the more abilities you have, the more doors that open. Right? Group power. If you have more skills and you're a member of a family, you have your partner and your children to support, if you have more skills, you have more career options, which means that group is going to benefit. The power of the group increases. If you're an employee and you add skills, well, then the skills of that office just increased because you're there. That's how you increase the group power. So again, this is not talking about do you have a ton of skills. This is if you decided you wanted to learn new skills, that you have the ability to do that. Do you have the ability to read and learn something new? Do you have the ability to ask questions? Do you have the ability to observe and learn from someone showing you. I hope you're scoring high on this one because I believe you do have the ability. You're on video 8 of this course. That tells me you're learning a lot of new stuff. So I hope you scored high. The next one. What number are we on? Oh, number seven. I have the ability to change others perceptions by democratic means. My mom. I can hear my mom screaming over the $15 words in this one. So let's break it down. Changing other people's perceptions means changing their opinions by democratic means. Means you didn't force them to. You were able to talk to them and help them change their opinion. You were able to talk your partner into watching the movie you wanted. And by the way, if you've ever talked your partner into doing anything, then you have this ability and you should be scoring a 10. If you've ever convinced your kid that they should be going to bed. If you've ever convinced your kid to brush their teeth because it's a good idea. That's what I mean. You're changing someone's perception through democratic means. And democratic means just means that you didn't force them to do it. You used your ability, your persuasion, your gifted gab to change their mind. So I'd be willing to bet you probably should score high on this one as well. Now this next one, I don't know, I'm hoping that you're leaning to the Higher end of the scale. This one is, I am involved in a growth process. Every single empowered person I know believes they're on a journey, believes that they're growing, believes that they're learning. They don't. It's not, I need to know everything right now, but I know more than I did 10 years ago. If you believe you're on a growth process, whether you're adding to your wisdom, adding to your skills, or both, it doesn't matter. If you believe you're involved in a growth process, then you should be scoring high on this one. Now. Oh, two more. I see change as never ending and I often initiate it. So I know for me now, some people hate change, or so they say they do. I don't really understand that, didn't ever really understand that because everything is changing. That's kind of like saying I hate bravery because I'm changing. By the end of this video, I'm older than I was at the beginning of this video. The season is changing, the weather is changing, the temperature is changing. Change is going on all the time. I think what they mean by that is they don't like new changes, right? Things that come up unexpectedly. But for people that are involved in that growth process, I love change. What I don't like is boredom. I don't like the same old, same old. Now some things I like living in the same place. I love how comfy my bed is and I'd rather be home than anywhere else. Those things I don't want to change, but I love that I meet new people every single day and I love that I never know who's gonna email or who's gonna call and it's like Christmas morning. They're like gifts coming out of nowhere. So those are the kind of changes I mean, I love change. It means that I'm growing and learning new things. And the second part is I often initiate it, which means I make the change. I choose to take a course like you did with taking this course. I choose to read a new book. So the fact that you're taking this course means you initiated change. Maybe you should be scoring high on this one. Last but not least, and this is the kicker, right? This is the big one. I feel in control of my life. I'm going to stress the word my not in control of your kids lives. Not controlling what your partner does, not controlling what the government does, not controlling what leadership in your community, town, city, whatever is doing you. You control your life. You decide what you're gonna do, who you're gonna do it with how you're gonna do it. And I hope you realize, I hope you see how in control you are. So there you have it. That is the quiz revisited. And I hope you've adjusted your score with that new understanding. Wasn't that awesome? I hope think it was awesome. And, and by the way, how are you? Yes, you are awesome as always during this course. And I if I haven't stressed this already, I'm going to do it right now. You can email me at any time if you have a question and I will happily explain it to you. Whether it's I will respond an email back to you, I will shoot a video to explain it to you. Or even if you prefer, I can can give you a call or we can do Facebook messenger or whatever the case may be. But if you have a question, do not worry about it. Reach out. I am happy to help. I am here to help because remember, I believe in you and I hope this quiz really helped you to believe in you too. Until next time. I love you. Talk to you soon. Bye. Bye. There.
