There is No Power ... (for Indigenous and non-Indigenous?? You tell me.)

Sandi L Boucher performs a freestyle poem called "We Need Leaders" urging Indigenous audiences to stop blaming others and step into leadership by offering ideas and vision instead of criticism. She frames it for Indigenous people but says it applies to everyone.

This video is going to be a little bit different because this one is going out to the indigenous, to the men and women that can hear my voice. This message is directly for you. Hi everybody. I'm Sandy Boucher, Red Thunderbolt, woman of the Loon clan, a proud member of Seine River First Nation in Treaty 3 Territory in Northern Ontario. And today I have a special video, a special blog post for the indigenous that follow my work and who may hear my voice. By stumbling across this video, I'm going to do something really different because the poem, the sharing, freestyle poem that I shared in this blog post was straight from my heart to yours. So it's one of those cases where I really don't want to add words to it because I think the words that are there is what you need to hear. So if you could forgive me for reading, I wanted to share the post with you and here it is. It's called We Need Leaders. There is no power in complaining about what they did or didn't do, said or didn't say, should or shouldn't have said or did. There is no power in pointing at others because that is the person who is dominating your thoughts or conversation. You are giving them power over you. So stop. Get back to your side of the feather. Give them the space to be themselves. Take what makes sense. Leave the rest. Learn often, but don't judge. Do something better, Lead. Be an alternative with your ideas and your thoughts so much more valuable than criticisms. Be unique. Be you. Not in contrast to, to them, just you. Because we need way more genuine leaders with ideas. After all, we have enough fools, enough critics, enough judges. We need you. The journey continues. Now, as I mentioned, when I wrote that, I was thinking of the indigenous men and women in our communities. And it's so easy to get frustrated and so easy to point fingers. And often that finger pointing is incredibly justified. I'm not minimizing their frustration. What I'm saying is we don't need more frustrated people. We need people with enough wisdom and vision to get past the frustration. And by the way, if you're non Indigenous, listen to this video again. Because as I was reading it, I realized, I think it applies to you too. I think maybe, just maybe, you need a different kind of leader too. You tell me. Comment below. Until tomorrow. I love you. Take care. Bye bye.
