Sandi L Boucher shares the fourth principle of personal power: everything you need is already inside you. She uses stories about her mother and elders to show how asking "What do you think?" builds confidence, resilience, and the ability to handle disappointment on your own.

Foreign. Hi, everybody, It's Sandy Boucher here once again, Red Thunderbolt, woman of the Loon clan. I'm a proud member of Seine River First Nation in Northern Ontario. And I'm here to expand once again on the fourth of the 12 principles of personal power. Because we're in the fourth month of the year. So just as a reminder, I want to share with you once again what the fourth principle is. And here it is. Everything you need is inside you. But like a seed, your wisdom needs to be nurtured and fed. Feed it and it will grow along with your confidence. Ta da. Now, I have so many people asking me on a regular basis, how did I get to be so confident? And it's from building your wisdom. When you try things and make mistakes and learn from them, you build your wisdom and your confidence. But today, I wanted to share something absolutely special with you. And if you could just adopt. Adopt. The word is adopt. If you could just adopt this principle, I guarantee things are going to change for you. But this requires looking at the world and your place in it in a different way. Now, for those of you who followed my career or watched any of my videos or been to any one of my seminars, you know my mom comes with me to every single one of those events. I was lucky in that I had this amazingly wise woman for a mom. And I truly hope that you have someone like that in your life. An elder. Whether they're your parent or an aunt or uncle or someone in the community, the little lady that lives next door, the little old man who lives down the street. Whoever it is, I hope you have someone that you can talk to, someone who shares their teachings, their views with you. Now, these people are not perfect. And I guarantee you, because we're of different generations, you're going to hear something that seems totally ludicrous. Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. And don't throw the elder out just because of one silly statement. It's your puzzle that you're building. So take the puzzle pieces you need and leave the rest. Now, I mentioned my mom because my mom had one mission in life. And she would tell us, her children on a regular basis that she was here to make sure that we learned everything we needed to. Here's the important part. To go on without her. I truly believe that is the role of every parent, every teacher, every boss, every leader. It's not about do what I say. It's about learn this. So if I'm not here, you're going to be okay. Now, There are some people out there, parents, who think that they have to teach their children what the world is going to do. They have to teach their children what disappointment is like. And I'm sorry, no. As parents, we have to teach our children how to handle disappointment, how to overcome disappointment, how to be disappointed with someone you love and still be able to love them. If you don't know how to do that, you can't pass it on to your children. If you don't know how to do it, then you're in the perfect place watching these videos, because that's the kind of stuff we're going to talk about now. Because that was my mom's focus when I was younger. And I would call her up and say, you know, tell her some problem, and I had no idea what I was going to do. She would listen with total support and empathy. And then she would always ask the same thing. And if you want to empower someone in your life, you have to ask this question as often as you can. And you can ask yourself the same question. The question is, what do you think? Because, you see, when I went to my mom for advice, she knew that if she gave me the answer, it would increase my belief in her, which also means it would increase my dependence on her. You can't feel confident if you're dependent on someone else's wisdom, because what if they walk out of the room? But by asking me, what do you think? By asking leading questions, well, what did you do last time? What do you think would help? Have they ever done this before, those kind of questions? She helped me to come up with my own answer, which built my own confidence and my own wisdom. It built my independence. And in your independence is confidence. And I'm not talking about all those people out there who think, I don't need anyone. I need people in my life. I am very independent. I know I'm resilient. I can survive whatever the world throws at me, but I would never want to do it alone. I want people in my life because I want them there, not because I'm desperate to have them there, that I need them to survive. No, I need them in my world to enjoy my world. But I can definitely survive if they had to go do something. See the confidence, See the wisdom. So the question is, what do you think? What do you think of this TV show watching tonight? Ask your children. Wow, you know, they have a disagreement. What do you think would help? What do you think would make you feel better? What do you think should be your punishment? What do you think is the lesson here? Whatever it is, it starts with, what do you think? So there you have it, my friends.
