What YOU Did Right! (Looking Back in a Realistic Light)

Sandi L Boucher reflects on 2009 and asks you to list what you actually got right that year instead of dwelling on regrets. She shares her own wins: finishing her book, moving home, loving despite loss, apologizing to her kids, and staying true to herself.

Hi everybody. Sandy Boucher here. It's about 9:30 at night and I'm just working away in my office. And honestly, this is the part that I absolutely love about running my own business. I don't have to follow conventional office hours. And if I have a great idea, hit me at midnight or at 9:30 in the evening, I can work on it. So that's what I'm doing right now. Just some planning, some paperwork, working on some information for an upcoming personal coaching session, and actually doing some planning on ideas for upcoming videos. That's exactly why I'm recording this video. In a couple of days, 2009 is going to be in the record books and we're going to be focused on 2010 and what we want to accomplish in the next year or in the next decade. But before we jump to 2010, I want to take a second and pay homage to to 2009. Now, as grown women, men and women, we are really good at listing our shortcomings. All the things we wish we had done better, the things we wish we had taken more time to work on, the things that we didn't even get to. But we rarely take the time to celebrate our successes. And we deserve to celebrate those successes, even if we're the only one applauding. And that's what I want to invite you to do right now. And that's literally what I just did, which is make a list, literally of the things that you did right in 2009. I wanted to share my list with you just to give you an idea of the kind of things that might show up on your list in 2009. What I did right, I listened to me more. I listened to my heart and my spirit and didn't just disregard what they told me. I took more time to reflect and learn and spent less time doubting myself. I laughed often and I laughed authentically. I moved home, which is huge for me. I loved and I lost, but I loved anyways. That's one of the things I love about myself. I apologize to my kids. I'm not going to go into details right now, but it was a huge step for all of us. As a family unit, I finished my book, thereby honoring a lifetime dream, also huge. And finally, I stayed true to the image of the woman I want to be. I want you now to take the time to write your list. At different times in our lives, we've all written little notes. Whether it was I love you, honey, to our child or to our partner, it's time to write a note to ourselves, to give ourselves A's in all those areas that we needed. We managed to maintain our family through a tough economic times. We managed to cheer on our children. We managed not to strangle a teenager. I don't know. You know what I mean? I was kidding. But there are things that we did, and we have to quit believing we could have, should have, would have done it better and just say we did it right. As right as it needed to be at that time. Celebrate your successes. Celebrate 2009 in a realistic light, not in the gloom and doom that we tend to hang on to. You deserve that applause. Talk to you soon. I love you. Bye bye.
