A short YouTube monologue by Sandi L Boucher exploring who people choose to listen to and arguing that listening choices reflect a faith-based (open, creator-guided) versus ego-based (self-limiting) orientation. She offers examples, motivational quotes, and practical guidance (use a ‘gatekeeper’ to accept/reject inputs), then closes with a promotional pitch for her son's entrepreneurial product — a customizable house-number planter box — with ticketed raffle details.

Hello, you super duper double delicious person, you. I have a question for you. Who are you listening to? And I guess the second question is, who decides who you're listening to? Let's talk about it. Bonjour. Hi everybody. My name is Andy Boucher. I'm Red Thunderbolt, woman of the Loon clan, A proud member of the of Seine River First Nation in Treaty 3 Territory in Northern Ontario, Canada. And as I said in the opening, who the heck are you listening to? In this day and age of division and barriers and separation, it's a really important question. Equally as important is who decides who you're listening to? So I believe, and this is just my humble opinion, that who decides who you listen to? It's totally dependent on whether you're leading a faith based or an ego based existence. So, faith based. I am anishinaabe kwe. I 110% attempt to live my life in line with my traditional teachings. I am human, make mistakes. It happens. But I am constantly aware of what creator is sending my way. What billboard did I notice, what quote, what stranger did I meet. So those are the people I listen to. And when I say listen to, I don't mean listen to and do what they say. I listen to what they they say. So because creators sent them my way for any reason. So what I do is I listen to their words. Does that make sense to me? Check in with myself? Does it? Is it a puzzle that fits in my puzzle piece? Yes. If it is, then I keep it. No, it isn't. Then I leave it with them. Not a judgment. That's just not who I am. It's not part of who I want to be. So that's faith based, whether it's God, the universe, higher power creator, Dr. Phil, Oprah, whoever's sending it to you. If you're open to that, then I think you have a greater chance from learning from greater chance of learning from everyone. Because you're open to it. The other side of that coin or the other side of that feather would be ego based people. I'm going to decide who I listen to because it's all about me. I see the problem with that. Or, or the challenge with that is we all come with baggage and we all have stories we tell ourselves. And those stories can be incredibly limited. So for example, I wrote it on my handy Dandy index card. I know many women in business talking about entrepreneurs here that only listen to other women or women speakers or women in business. And that's ludicrous. In my humble opinion, that's ludicrous. If you honestly don't think you're gonna have anything in common with another business person because they're male, that's a barrier you're erecting. In the same way, I know many Indigenous people that are trying to overcome their oppression, trying to find their confidence and their wisdom, and they only trust Indigenous voices. I'm not even sure how you can do that. For me, I grew up knowing that the voices that were trying to influence me were not Indigenous. None of my teachers were Indigenous. I went to school a long time, a long time ago, so that wasn't an option. So I invoked what I now call the gatekeeper. And the easiest way to explain the gatekeeper is to think of the grumpiest receptionist you've ever met. And that receptionist is going to decide if you get into that office or not. So when I went to school, I would listen to the teacher. I would take the lesson and leave the rest. I would take what I need and leave the rest. I have read many books from a perspective that is not my own. But that doesn't mean there isn't lessons in there that can benefit me. Right? Anyone can be a teacher. Sometimes they reinforce what I don't believe, and other times it's a new perspective that adds to my teachings. One of the things that always fascinated me or confused me, maybe people that are steadfast in whatever their religious belief is to the point that they can't hear of another view. My mind always went to, are your teachings that shaky that if you hear something else, you're afraid it's going to corrupt you? I love hearing from people of other faiths, other religions, other cultures, because there's always some incredible thing in common. And then there's these amazing differences that I can understand, like the viewpoint and why they do it that way. And I just didn't realize. But it's not a threat to me because I have my foundation. They can only add to who I am. They can only add to my puzzle piece. They're not a threat. I don't need to accept a puzzle piece that doesn't fit another one. Well, look at the politics right now. Conservatives only listen to conservatives. Liberals only listen to liberals. I want to hear now, often do. I am not a Polyev fan. Anyone who knows me knows that I think that man is scary. I think that man is Trump light. Not, not, not a fan. And by the way, if you do want to defend him in my comments, I will eliminate that comment because this is my channel, my safe space. That is different, that I don't leave anything on my channels, whether it's Facebook, whether it's Instagram, whether it's LinkedIn, whether it's here on YouTube that I don't endorse and believe in. Because this is a safe space and if you come here then you shouldn't get hit by things like. That's why people don't like social media, because they get hit with all these guard this garbage that's on the shoulders or on the responsibility. The people that are not creating safe spaces. I create safe spaces. You're not going to get hit with stuff I don't agree with. If you want to share what some something I don't agree with, do it on your channel. You have the total freedom to do that. So use your gatekeeper. But be open. Stop limiting who your teachers are. Listen to the person, start noticing who shows up, what you know just in your life and start asking yourself, why is this person here? What are they going to remind me of? What are they going to teach me? It's an amazing way to do your life. So what I wanted to share with you, just an example of the end result to doing that. I listen to a variety of different people every single day. You saw my notebook in a previous video. I take notes. I'm. I'm an author, so quotes resonate with me and I just. They help me stay positive in a very challenging industry. They help me keep my energy up, my hope up, my ambition up, my desire for change up. All of those things are positives in my world. So I just wanted to. I did not pre rehearse this, but in my notes you can see some things are highlighted. So I just wanted to share some of the things that jumped out at me from watching my latest training videos. One of them was, and I have to give some context here, I just wrote, the goal is to perform on fight night. Which means if I have an upcoming seminar, that is the goal, to knock that seminar out of the park. Even if that means I have to say no to other things that would detract from it would. That would steal my focus or steal my energy. The goal is what I do and the people in that audience deserve that. So that's super important. This one I thought was amazing. Definition of persistence. Now, I am definitely a persistent person, but listen to this. The definition of persistent. Continuing with a cause of action with complete disregard to previous failures and future opposition. Continuing with the course of action with complete disregard to previous failures and future opposition. Yes. Love it. Love, love And a really good reminder in there, too. Now, this is who Michael Chandler. I was at Mylet. I know you're shocked. Was interviewing Michael Chandler, who is a UFC fighter, championship fighter, and he trains ridiculous. Like athletes do, right? And he gets asked all the time, well, do you like training? Do you like what you do? And I couldn't help. Now, remember, I'm trying to see if this fits into my puzzle. That instantly reminded me of the people. It's Sunday, and I'm shooting this video. So the people that would ask me, like, you work on Sunday. Like, do you like what you do? And his response was absolutely amazing. And I was like. Like one of those so simple that I needed on a T shirt. And his response was, it's what I do. What's the alternative? And I was like, okay, what's the alternative? And, yeah, the alternative could be, then I get weekends off and I go work for someone else 9 to 5, Monday to Friday. But then I give up all that freedom of deciding my own workday, working my own hours, honoring my own voice, helping people in a way that makes sense to me. That's not an alternative. I would choose just so that I don't work Sunday mornings. I'm choosing to work Sunday mornings. It's a choice because it's what I do. Isn't that the best response? I love it. So another reminder. Work on your mind. Your thoughts are your future. So don't, don't, don't, don't catastrophize and start thinking of all that other things. Another question. What are you doing that really isn't you? Like, the best version of you? Are you pretending to be happy when you're not? Are you pretending to be thrilled to be helping someone when you're not? Are you pretending to enjoy your job when you're not? Like, what are you doing that isn't really you? Because it's your life. Do it and you do you. Boo. I love this quote. Listen to this. We need leaders with vision to help people with dreams. We need leaders with vision to help people with dreams. Amazing. Oh, and this one. It'll be the last one from my notes. You can't change the season, but you can live the season. Well, now it is August, and I live in Northern Ontario. We're already seeing a temperature change, even though they. My daughter told me, the heat's coming back. Yay. Winter's gonna come, and we could complain about it. We could choose to live the season. Well, I'm gonna take the second option now. The other I Now grab my phone. Not because I'm ignoring you. I wanted to go into my Pinterest app for a second because I've mentioned it before on threads. Every morning I share a motivational or inspirational quote, something that resonated with me, and these appear randomly in my email. And this is interesting. I shouldn't have done that there. Okay, so some of the quotes here. Wow. No, let's go into here. My quotes. That's what I want. Not just quotes in general, my quotes. This first one I just got today. And I'm actually going to go on an ego trip and revise the quote. It doesn't say who said it. Inspire.com shared it. The master was once a student is the quote. And yes, that resonated with me. Really good reminder. If you want to end up on that stage, you got to be the student. But you know how I would change it? The master is still a student. Because I don't know anyone who is uber successful that isn't still learning. Oh, I love this one. I'm sorry. It just reminded me of modern day politics. When a clown moves into the palace, he doesn't become a king. The palace becomes a circus. Be careful who you let in if you don't want your home or your office to become a circus. Just saying. This one I loved because it's so true. Confidence is not they will like me. Confidence is I'll be fine if they don't. Of course, I would prefer people to like me, but if they don't, that's. That's on them. That doesn't change my value. As I always say, and this one described, this is a great way to end this off. This describes my life now. Doing what you like is freedom. Liking what you do is happiness. I leave you with that thought. So today and going forward, you decide who you listen to. But bring down those walls. Maybe, just maybe, you should spend some time seeing who Creator sends. I mean, you found this video, right? Maybe Cry Creator's trying to say, I got lots to show you. If you would just let me. Until tomorrow. I love you. Take care. Bye. Bye. Excuse the way I look. I was just outside enjoying my backyard. But. But a little while ago, I shared how my son was now starting on his entrepreneurial journey. And for years now, I've been focused on legacy. What can I teach other people to do after I'm gone? What wisdom can I share with people that carries on after I'm gone? And now I can see that helping my son follow his own dreams while I'm here to pass on my experience and is part of that legacy. So now I'm shooting this video today because you have a chance to help me support my son. So his very first project I shared a little while ago was what we call the house planter box or the house number planter box. What would you call it? It has house numbers on it, but it's a planter. So now I want to show you what it looks like in real life. Here it is. Isn't it awesome? As you can see, it's really big. But the best part is these things slide out, right? That one, this is heavy and big. And this one, so you can put the soil in it and plant whatever you want with ease. You can change it. And of course, the numbers changed based on your house. You have a chance to win this. Now, of course, we're going to change the numbers to match your house. They may have to be smaller if your house has three numbers or four numbers even. But for $10 a ticket or 20 for three tickets, you get a chance to win this beautiful planter. Trust me, it's gonna last. It is built to last. And I love those planter boxes. Buy your tickets today. As soon as we sell, I believe 50 of them, we have the draw. And I'll be doing updates on my Facebook page and in my YouTube community. Isn't this beautiful? I love it. Get your tickets today. Bye. Bye.
