Day 6 // The Value of Working Higher #wiseupchallenge24

In this 31‑day devotional series, Sharnita Gates presents Day 6 of the Wise Up Challenge, focusing on Proverbs 6 and the theme “The Value of Working Higher, Not Harder.” She frames the session as part of a larger “Provisional Actions” playbook that seeks to align believers’ actions with heavenly wisdom rather than earthly shortcuts. The teaching emphasizes wisdom as the foundational strategy, urging listeners to cultivate diligence, avoid laziness and procrastination, and develop sound judgment (discretion) in dealing with people, provision, and protection—the three key take‑aways she labels the “3 Ps.” Using the ant as a metaphor, she illustrates how diligent, brain‑less creatures store provision, encouraging believers to “store up” God’s word in their hearts for spiritual nourishment. She warns against false security that comes from self‑reliance or trusting others, highlighting how such reliance leads to anxiety, poverty mindset, and susceptibility to temptation. Practical tools are offered: setting realistic goals, breaking tasks into manageable steps, using “audibles” (small wins) to stay motivated, and maintaining daily routines of prayer, meditation, and quiet time. Throughout, she connects each point back to biblical principles—fear of the Lord, seeking wisdom, trusting God, guarding the heart, and avoiding evil—showing how consistent, diligent work rooted in divine wisdom yields long life, peace, and protection.
Chapters
Everyone, and welcome to day 6 of the Provisional Actions Challenge, the Wise Up Challenge 24, where we are getting wisdom, we are getting knowledge, we are getting understanding. We are diving into all 31 Proverbs, each chapter, each chapter we're going through every day. And what we're getting, that's the question overall. We start from the beginning What are you getting? Are you getting an understanding? Are you getting some instructions for our lives? And that is why we are diving into Proverbs, so that our beliefs can start to align our behaviors, our behaviors can start aligning with our fruit. We want to bear much fruit, we want to be fruitful, we want to multiply, we want to multiply love, and when One of the things that we took away from yesterday was a disciplined life and an undisciplined life. An undisciplined life has no fruit, and we want to be fruitful, so we have to grow in the discipline, the love of our Father. And he has graciously gave us a book, more than one book, because Proverbs is part of the wisdom literature. But we are diving into Proverbs right now to align our actions with heavenly wisdom and not with earthly wisdom. And so in all our getting, we are getting the understanding. And from day one, let's go through our playbook. We are building up a playbook for our lives so as we go through different situations, we can apply heavenly wisdom to different situations and put it through that as the filter for our life. And that becomes our life philosophy. And so let's go through the Last 5 days, because we're on day 6. Let's go through the last 5 days as a recap. Day 1 was the fear of the Lord. Day 2 was seeking wisdom. Day 3 was trusting in the Lord. Day 4 was guarding your heart. Day 5 is avoiding evil. And day 6, today, is the value of working Higher, not harder. Higher. And this is some—I like how we are getting a valuable lesson. So to be able to take less on what is really essential and getting wisdom, gaining understanding is very essential in our lives. So taking out the time and giving the effort to really go into proverbs. And receive that is very essential. It's valuable. And so today we're going to go through the valuable lessons of getting wisdom and, and how to actually apply it to our lives, what to consider. Um, so the strategy, the overall strategy is wisdom. Wisdom is the principal thing as we build up this playbook. Wisdom is the principal thing we are getting. We are getting wisdom, and that is the teachings, that is um, the instructions that our Father has given us. And so just really putting that into practice. And as we go along our walk, our daily, our daily journey, as we, you know, we receive life every day, and when we open up our eyes, we don't want to walk in the way of the wicked. We don't want to stay in darkness. And that's what Proverbs 6 really touched on today, um, is really Why we are calling it a, you know, the value of working higher. And so, like I said, the strategy is wisdom. The purpose of Proverbs 6 is to embrace diligence. So, you know, being diligent, continuing on, not giving up, not, not wasting time, um, continuing to be consistent, um, and avoid laziness. And that's that's one of the things we have to really get an understanding of, really what laziness is, what we're going to face on, on the way as we gain understanding. Like, this is possible, but then we also be able to align our actions with heavenly wisdom and say, okay, if I am in the process of being, you know, lazy, I know how to locate myself and actually align myself with the path that I'm on, which is the path of righteousness. And that on the path of righteousness, we're holding to the teachings and the understanding that our God, our Father, has given us in his word. And we're holding on to the word of God. And so the mindset that we have for Proverbs 6 is consistent effort leads to success. So if we want to get to the end where we have long life, as we accept that, and we want to get that glorious crown of peace Where we're able to embrace the wisdom and, and our minds be exalted in the word and in Christ. It rests in the way that Christ has taught us and is leading us because he's constantly leading us as we continue to seek the word and seek wisdom. Our actions will start to align. We'll start to create a daily routine. So as we go through each day, We're going to be diligent in doing this daily. So we are on day 6. We are going all the way to day 31. I'm excited. So we're going to set some realistic goals and we're going to avoid procrastination. And that's one of the things that Proverbs 6 really touch on is procrastination. So I think today, and I believe that today we're going to really get some insight into heavenly wisdom when it comes to procrastination. As we go through the playbook, we are also identifying some audibles where we may face procrastination, where we may face laziness in our own lives and have to really deviate from our current state. And that's what we're calling audibles, is where we— okay, so if we're feeling lazy, we want to motivate ourselves with some small wins, you know, some small rewards after completing the task. So each day as you go through each chapter, you know, celebrate that. You know, thank you, I was able to be diligent, I was able to continue on. Um, I'm building up a habit of whether it's quiet time, meditating on the word, seeking wisdom, getting understanding, listening, because that's one of the biggest things that our Father is saying— really listen. So okay, I'm tuning my ears to Tuning my ears to the word of God, tuning my ears to wisdom, tuning my ears to instruction. So every day is like a tune-up. Um, I like that series Oil Change. Um, but if you're feeling overwhelmed, break down tasks into smaller, more manageable steps. So sometimes, okay, if you have too much on your plate right now, you know, and you're like, I'm trying to get wisdom, so just kind of you know, prioritize and say, okay, if, if getting wisdom is the main principle, then this comes— this comes first. So I start breaking it down, whether I have to cook or I have to clean, this comes first. And then you'll be able to, you know, break down those tasks into manageable tasks, but not losing sight of the word of God and you— what you're really get at, you know, getting, and that's wisdom. And so one of the terms, um, that really stuck out to me was discretion. And it's like really having careful judgment. And that's one of the things that we have in regards to the word. We get discretion to really perceive the situations that we're currently in, and that leads to, you know, sound judgment because you're able to really identify and locate yourself and locate the things that's going on around you. And before we go into the each Proverbs, uh, of Proverbs 6, each scripture, I wanted to— what I share, what I took from it, it was 3 Ps. It was people, provision, and protection. And that was 3 things that Proverbs 6 really gave me. It gave me discretion when it comes to people. It gave me discretion. So now I'm taking into regard regard people. And then also it gave me provision. It gave me, you know, um, some, you know, how I can regard or understand provision. And then also protection. And we'll— I'll kind of go through them as we go through Proverbs 6 because it's that the value is higher wisdom. And so when you're starting off the work, for me I call work wisdom, obedience, responsibility, and knowledge. So So if you ask me the type of work that I'm currently doing, I am getting wisdom, I'm being obedient, I am handling my responsibilities, and that's based the commands. I have to remember the commands and actually execute on the commands as being— as I'm being obedient, but then also growing in the knowledge, and that's taking everything into consideration. So that's the work. And so when you're working higher That is more of the approach as it goes to the word of God. You approach the word of God a lot differently, um, and because it's basically where you lay your hands. And that's why I called it people, because it first talks about the people. Um, when it comes to security, we have that earthly wisdom give us a really big false sense of security. You think you're secure, but your, your soul is really not secure. as it is with wisdom. Wisdom is true protection. We identified that in Proverbs 1 through 5, as far as wisdom protects you. She protects you. And it was talking about how it guards, you know, it keeps a close watch on you. And so security, when you think about security, it really gives you like a false sense. Um, and when you— it's kind of like lazy. Instead of you getting wisdom, you're relying on a false sense of security when it comes to people. And that's one of my— that was just my takeaway as far as I can't lay my security, my protection in the hands of others. Um, because it's, you know, it— although it's promised when you make a deal with that person, um, it's promised, but you know, in the end you're really left alone. Um, it's, it's— you're putting yourself, your, your life in someone else's hands. And that's why I really like my quote where it's like you have the controller to your life. Don't put it into someone else's hands. And you don't even want to waste a minute of doing that, um, putting that— your, your life into a false sense of security. And you want to get out of that, that person's clutches as, you know, as quick as possible. So if you are trusting in yourself, or— because you're a person as well, so you can put your, your, your life in your own hands, and it's still the same as you putting it into someone else's hands. because it's not in the hands of God, which is in wisdom. It's not grounded in wisdom. And so you want to not even waste a minute and procrastinate. That's where procrastination comes, when we let our, our thoughts lie in a place of false security and not in the— in wisdom too long. So we really have to rest our, our thoughts and our, our soul, our mind, our will, our emotions, our imagination, our affection in the word of God, which is wisdom. And so, um, when you do do that, you want to act desperate. You want to, um, put on a long face. You want to get out of there as quick as possible. Um, you want to run like a deer, um, or a bird, because it's basically that, that, that false sense of security is like an armed, armed villain, a troublemaker. It's full of trouble. Um, and it brings a lot of exhaustion. Your thoughts are not able to sleep. You're not able to rest your thoughts in, in positivity. You might— it might even lead to worry. Um, and he said, do not be anxious about anything, but everything by prayer and petition. So when you have the word, you start to go— instead of actually, you know, letting your anxiety, you know, rise, you actually take your thoughts, cast them down, bring them into the obedience of Christ. That's why I was like, the work is obedience. Being— oh, you have to be obedient with your thoughts. as well and bring those into the obedience of Christ, which he, you know, would listen to the Father and get the instructions and the teachings of the Father. So his mind was always on the work that God had called him to do. And the same for us. So when we do that, when we actually let our thoughts go into that false sense of security, um, it leads to poverty. It leads to a scarcity mindset. Um, little by little, each thought. We have over 1,000 thoughts a day. So little by little, those thoughts are just going to more of a poverty mindset and not necessarily an abundance mindset, where, you know, he— the power that is working in us. He said he came to give us life and life more abundantly. And as we tapped into Proverbs 5 and, well, 4 and 5, because it really touched on how the word and wisdom, when you gain understanding, it brings life to the body. And it brings nourishment to the bones. And so you're starting to become more wealthy and healthy in the way of the word, because now you have more— your thoughts are not just running down the way of the wicked. It's actually now you're following on a path of righteousness where it leads to peace. The Tree of Life, it leads to peace. it's all around when you rest under that, in the shadow of the Almighty. And that's where it comes in as far as being on watch, being on watch. Because when you let those thoughts just run, there is no remedy for that. Um, when you get to the end and your mind is deep in, deep in hell and is deep in the way of the wicked, is full of darkness. Um, because it's trapped. It's like a— it's— I like how it's causing a Perverse mind. We talked about perversity, and, um, I think it was day 2, and we talked about different situations. It's not necessarily just perversity when it comes to, um, sexual sins. It's not just— but a perverse mind, even plotting evil, is a perverse mind. Um, and that's like a troublemaker because their heart is full of deceit. And when your heart is full of deceit, it produces like corruption. Your mouth that's corrupt. Um, you know, he said a winking eye, you know, you really can't trust. So this is now when we talk about people and the body, as far as health to the body, you'll start to be able to discern more of a disciplined life and an undisciplined life. Because an undisciplined life, like we said on the other day, it was— it's like the lips are, you know, corrupt. It's not a lip full of knowledge. And it's like It's like a bad taste in your mouth. Um, and that's more of like, it leads everywhere they go. It's like it leads to destruction. Um, it points you to destruction. So, you know, earthly wisdom could point you right to destruction, although it seems good, because really it's, it's no instructions. And that's the thing that we identify the way of the wicked— there's no instructions. So when you start to go down the path, um, of, you know, oh, you start on your path, you may get caught up in where there's no instructions. And that's where you really need to not even procrastinate, not waste a minute. You really need to, to shift, turn, and, and seek and get wisdom. And that's, that's because Those— it stirs up a lot of trouble. And because of those, the heart is deceitful, you know, the heart is deceitful above all else, so who can know it? So that, that's the word right there. So it— because that, that deceitful heart is just plotting evil. So think about their thoughts, where their thoughts is not lying in, in wisdom, which leads to temptation. And I like how the question— because the question allows us to really locate ourselves and ask ourselves How long will you stay there? How long will we let those thoughts just stay in procrastination, in the way of the wicked? How long will we allow that to just continue to just stir up conflict in our hearts, in our minds, in our soul, in our imagination, in our will, in our emotions? So we really have to work and do the work, be obedient to casting, you know, bringing those into the obedience of Christ, like really seeking, okay, Seeking the leader and following him. And like you said, follow, follow Christ, follow me. Not follow the other person, not follow yourself, um, not follow the earth and its ways, but really following Christ. So that's where it comes in as far as the lesson. The go-to lesson is, and to watch, is the ant. And this is the valuable lesson that we're learning from the ant. An ant is like a teacher. It has no commander, it has no overseer or no ruler. Um, but the thing is, it's brainless. So we can even take a lesson from an ant because it really is brainless. It doesn't have the brain that we do, but we have a brain. So we have to really take a lesson from this brainless animal that is still the ways and it has wisdom that we have to consider which is how it stores up food and provisions. That's why I said, you know, this Proverbs 6 really talks about people, it talks about provision, and we'll get to protection. But the provision is how it stores up food. And, and that's why I like when, you know, Jesus says, I am the bread of life, like really eating the word, um, and, and getting filled, um, and, and continuing. When you hide it in your heart, that treasure A valuable lesson that you're storing in your heart, you start to, you know, eat that, and that's— that it brings health and nourishment to your body, your whole body. So storing up those, you know, storing up the word, um, I call— he called it the summer harvest. So in that time when the harvest is plenty, you know, you think about a garden, um, that's, that's, that's blooming with strawberries and, and, and watermelon. It's, it's nourishment. Um, and you, you store it up. You take that, you take those, and you store it up in your barn, your body, in your, you know, your well, your cistern, your, your temple. You start to store that, the word, up in you, um, because now you're, you're getting filled. And that's also provisions, because now you have, um, God's actions before, you know, the next season. So you're going into the next season But you already seek, you're seeking wisdom. You have the fear of the Lord. You're guarding your heart. You're trusting in the Lord. You're avoiding evil. You see how we're storing up, um, storing up provisions. And that's why that we're on this Provisional Actions Challenge where for 31 days that we're getting those principles. We're getting the principle of wisdom, which brings a lot of provisional action. Um, and I like how it's just Considered. It talks about one of the provision is we get to also hate what God hates and how God sees things. So if God sees this as you know evil and he hates this, we too should also hate this and store that up in our hearts. And it talks about just like a body. I like how it identifies like a body. And these are things that you know people. People or bodies that is plotting evil and that can lead you down into temptation. We talked about temptation as far as seduction. It also hits on seduction here. Like I said, it's not necessarily, um, a woman or a man. It is the, the principal thing is wisdom, and wisdom is loving instruction. And so the opposite of that when we talk about seduction is basically people who hate evil. I mean, hate, um, hate instructions. They hate instructions. So when they hate instructions, the same thing we hate, what God hates. And the people who hate instruction, it, it allows for seduction and temptation to run ragged. And that's like he said, the 7 things that he hate: arrogant eyes, a lying tongue, a mouth lying under oath, hands that murder the innocent. Feet race to evil. Hearts with evil plots. Troublemaker in the family. And that's why we're saying, as far as even these are thoughts, so, you know, arrogant thoughts, um, lying thoughts, um, thoughts that's lying under oath, um, hands, you know, um, thoughts that plots murder, you know, or murder innocent people, um, thoughts that Um, race to evil. Um, a heart, a thought that devises wickedness in their heart. So, um, and a troublemaker. So, um, that's what we're talking about as far as plots evil, a deceitful heart, you know. So you really want to hate those things also, because when— if you hate it, you, you kind of don't want that. You don't want to— you don't want that in your heart. So you have to get to gain the wisdom, you have to gain the instructions to say, hate this, okay? And because it blocks that seduction of what you should not touch, it actually gives you instructions on what to not touch. So you don't want to touch lustful things, you don't want to touch lustful, uh, prideful people, you don't want to touch gluttonous things, um, gluttonous people, gluttonous thoughts. You don't want to touch these things. Italy. Like, you don't want to, um, even enter that into your space. Like we talked about at the beginning, when it comes to people or those environments or those things or those thoughts, whatever it is, you do not want to touch it. That's, um, you want to get out of that as quick as you possibly can. You don't even want to agree with those thoughts or those people, um, because it's brainless. Like we're talking about the ant. The ant doesn't have a brain. But we do. So if we have a brain and we're not considering the ways or the, the wisdom of God, and not even considering even the ways of a brainless animal that actually stores up the provision, then we're opening ourselves up to seduction and temptation, which is soul-destroying. It destroys your mind, your will, your emotions, your imagination, your affection. And so it also is very destructive. It's going to lead you down a path of destruction. And in that, in that path, brainless, there is no allowances. There is no allowance, no matter what you say, no matter what you do. There is no allowance for a brainless person. Um, um, and because it just— that person that is brainless, it just is something that, that temptation and that seduction is just eating inside of them. Um, it burnt, you know, it burns you. It eats you alive. Um, Um, it misguides you. It— there's no excuses. Um, but, and so there's no excuses on the path if on that path. Um, and that's— this leads us into how wisdom protects you, because with the path of seduction and temptation, it leads to a bloody nose, a black eye, um, reputation ruined for good because of that person. If you touch that, that person, it There's just like jealousy comes from that, you know, brainless people, um, brainless thoughts. That's jealousy. It just, it, it produces a rage, um, because they're, they're already feeling cheated. They feel cheated in life, um, and so that, that feeling of feeling cheated causes jealousy and rage because really they're feeling cheated because they don't have no instructions. They, you know, but, and they hated instructions, but at the same time they don't know what makes them stumble. They haven't yet been born again, and that's why it's like the kingdom. You know, unless we are born again, we cannot see the kingdom of God. And the kingdom of God is full of wisdom. It's it's it's full of understanding. It's full of teachings. It's it's where you are. You your your sight is open, and you're able to. Your ears are tuned. So although that you're hearing, you're actually hearing and listening. and understanding when you— when your eyes— when you actually are in the kingdom of God. Um, and you know, so you have sight and you have hearing, so you do see, um, the word of God living and playing out in your life. So imagine someone who don't see that, who don't, um, really understand, have no understanding, that it causes jealousy and it causes rage. And so That's why we really need to get wisdom and gain understanding, because then when we start to walk in the way of heavenly wisdom, the people that's following us can also reach— receive the, the teachings, the instructions that God has given us. And that's, that's the, that's the purpose of this Provisional Action Challenge, because we don't want to lead people down the way of the wicked. We want to bring light to the situation. And that's exactly what the protection is of wisdom, that it protects us. It's, it's God's advice, is God's teachings, is God's discipline. He— we talked about that even on, um, day— I think it was day 3 or 4. We talked about the love of God and how he disciplined the one that he loved. And we delight in the teachings, we delight in the instructions, and we delight in the, uh, discipline that God gives. And you know, that's where we love, we love wisdom. We gain, are gaining wisdom, um, and because it is, it's sound, it's good, and it's moral, um, and that's, that wisdom begins to protect you, protect your thoughts, um, as you follow Christ. So he's continuing to following the instructions, following the, the, the teachings, and That bring— you know, your whole body is actually following. So your, your mind, um, your eyes, your lips, your heart, your feet are following the ways of Christ as you are considering, you know, storing up the, the provisions and the food. And as you gain understanding, you're starting to walk in that. That allows your whole body to be guided. It provides, um, it guards you, it guards your heart like we talked about on the other day, um, guarding your heart when you're trusting in the Lord with all your heart, um, and it gives you instructions. So that is the protection. So we kind of outline provisions, we outline protection and people, and this really brings a lot of different insights on how we can apply wisdom to our lives and situations and really build up discretion and also understanding and taking regards to the warnings that God has given us and in our lives so that we can have, uh, life and life more abundantly. The God kind of life, um, the Zoe kind of life, as we take on the lessons and take less on by, you know, studying to show ourselves approved, doing the work Being obedient, getting wisdom, handling our responsibilities. It is our responsibility to actually get the, the teachings, get wisdom, gain understanding. And so as we continue to grow, this is bringing us into more of a disciplined life, and you'll start to see life changes in your, in your own life as you continue to follow Christ as he leads you. He loves you and he lives inside of you. And that is Proverbs 6 on today as we are getting about, you know, the value of higher work. So this is higher. We are going higher. We're not going to work hard. I mean, we're not going to procrastinate, but we are still going to give a great effort and be diligent. And, you know, I guess we'll— instead of saying hard work, Diligent work. Let's be diligent. Let's be prudent. Let's be discerning. Let's make some good decisions, um, and making a good decision on, um, actually getting wisdom.
