Giving harmoniously // Grace Space // Sharnita Gates

In this episode of her "Grace Space" series, Sharnita Gates delivers a devotional reflection on the biblical principle of giving, centered on Luke 6:38. She begins by linking her own name—meaning "giver"—and her middle name—meaning "harmony"—to the theme, establishing a personal foundation for the message. Gates interprets the verse’s imagery of a "good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over" and expands it into a practical metaphor of a measuring cup filled with flour, illustrating how giving can be pressed, shaken, and overflow into abundance. She emphasizes that giving is not limited to financial contributions; it includes smiles, hugs, words, presence, and spiritual counsel. The talk weaves together three layers: a reflection on what we are giving, a devotion that ties the act of giving to receiving God’s wisdom, and a daily strategy that encourages listeners to identify their personal "measure"—the area where they feel unfulfilled—and intentionally give in that domain to receive growth. Throughout, Gates stresses responsibility, obedience, and due diligence in responding to God’s word, urging continuous, mindful giving in all facets of life. The episode concludes with a call to action to keep giving, a blessing, and a reminder to like and subscribe.

Hey everyone and welcome back to The Gray Space. I'm Sharnita Gates. I'm happy to be back here in The Gray Space with each and every one of you today. I, I really wanted to get back to connecting with you guys as far as our daily reflection, our devotion, our daily strategy and approach. So I have a special message that I definitely wanted to share on today regarding giving. And what a better way to start talking about giving, you know, that's actually what my name means. My name means giver. So, um, and actually is give— my middle name means harmony. So Being able to give harmony in a way, as far as really taking ownership of my name, as far as, you know, um, bringing that into this space. I want this space to be a place where we're not just giving financially. I never really asked for any donations or anything in this gray space. This gray space is the space— it is sufficient enough for wherever we are. whatever season we are. Um, I pray that the daily reflections, the daily strategy and approach, and the devotions really impact your life. And I'm giving myself in this space to each and every one of you. So I'm excited today to talk about giving. So let's dive into the word. I'm excited about this word on today. The word is coming from Luke 6:38. Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaking together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you. I don't know if everybody has been like me. I've heard that scripture. Scripture multiple times, so I would definitely encourage you to go back and read it for yourself because me reading it, you know, in a today in a new light. It's you know every day it's a new light. The sun comes up every single day, so there is new light, a new perspective over the word based off of what level of growth growth you're currently at. Like for me. I'm in a different stage of growth. Um, you know, if you guys are in the academy, you know that we say when we say grow, we're talking about putting God first, our responsibility and our obedience, and then wisdom, applying that wisdom as we go forward in our growth. So putting God first, we have a responsibility once God speaks, like Today, the word Luke 6:38. Once God speaks, we have a responsibility to do our due diligence. And that's another topic that we're going to be talking about shortly to come is our due diligence. What does diligence mean? So in our getting, we're getting an understanding of what God is saying. So God first, and then our responsibility to respond, and then the obedience to actually put it into practice and move. execute, and then apply biblical wisdom as we go forth in our growth. So today, with a giving heart and giving harmoniously in Luke 6:38, so we're going to break down the reflection, the devotion, and the daily strategy and approach. So the reflection is on giving. It says, give. Starts off, just give and then it will be given to you. Now we always hear about, um, maybe we hear different things that it could possibly be, but no matter what your it is, give. If your it is, um, giving a smile, if your it is giving a hug, whatever your it, whatever you're giving, you're giving life. You know, if you're giving a word, everything matters. Like, it matters in the order that it— the order matters as well. So the, the first thing in this order is to give. Just give. Like, it's just— it's, it's only give. Start off there. Give, and it will be given to you. So what, what really made me choose this, this scripture on today to really reflect, like, we're always giving something even when we're giving nothing. So you're always giving. So if you're always giving, then it will be given to you. So therefore, you're always receiving. Whether you realize it or not, you're giving something. For me right now, giving a word of encouragement, giving a, you know, a reflection, a devotion, just sharing in the word. I'm— every word that I speak, I'm giving. And it was a scripture I was reading on the, uh, another day, and it was what you want people to do for you, do for them. And for me in this season, if you've seen the last Grace Space, we're talking about wise counsel. So if I want wise counsel, I have to give it. So give and it will be given to you, good measure, good measure. God is good, so he's going to— like, so that, that measure, like, as far as just think— this is the analogy that I want to use on today. So we're going to think about a cup. Okay, so if we have a cup and that cup has, um, let's, let's say flour, and we're putting flour in there, like you have a measuring cup, and that's like— so we know how much it is in there based off of the measurements. And a good measure, so to get to the top, let's say it's a liter, that's the measurement that is, is good enough to fulfill the volume of that cup. So the good measure is to fulfill. So let's say, let's say fulfillment. So now give and it will be given to you, good measure, fulfillment, press down. So think about it. If we pour flour and we keep pressing it down, we get more in there. So, you know, we can kind of get more once it's pressed down. So if you give and it's pressed down, you know, you already have the good measure set to where, how, you know, your level of fulfillment And you press it down, you're going to get more. And then it's just shaking together, like no matter what, just throwing more in. Like, okay, so more flour shaking together. Like, it's just, you know, it moves when you shake things up. It moves, it moves some things. So something might shift to the left, some things might shift to the right. Um, so now you're— you have it pressed down, the flour is pressed down into the cup. And you have, you know, your level of fulfillment, and then it'll be running over because you're just going to keep pouring because you're going to continue. Like I said, giving is continuously, it's something you're going to give and receive. So the, the, the cup, the measuring cup is just, I'm going, I'm, I'm giving myself. So sometimes we might be the, the, the measuring cup where we just, it's the receiving, but we're still giving ourselves. So it— that I— this is why I wanted to go through this scripture, because it got me so excited about just giving. And some— and even a new revelation on receiving. Like, I, I'm okay with being a measuring cup, um, and just being fulfilled, especially when it comes to The word of God and wise counsel. So when we're talking about what you're giving, if I'm giving, I pray in this space that you receive wise counsel, a hunger and thirst for righteousness, and walking down on that way of wisdom and righteousness. And you run into this space and it provides wise counsel. So that's what I pray that I'm giving in this grace space. And then I pray that I receive, you know. So that's what I, you know, when it says it will be given to you, I want that to be given back to me. And I want it to be a good measure of fulfillment. I want the word to fulfill me. Um, and I want to pray, look, This is how I— this scripture, I, I kind of stream it to my memory. Press that, press that wise word, that wisdom, that knowledge and understanding, press it down into my heart, um, where my heart is full of understanding. Not me leaning to my own understanding, because yes, we can do things in our own will, but when you think about that it being pressed down into your heart, like, okay, it— and it's the word of God. Jesus is the word. You're giving my heart life, you know. So when you think about wisdom, for God give wisdom, and from his mouth comes knowledge and understanding more about Christ. So the more and more we understand what Christ said, and this is what the This is what our Lord and Savior says to us. He said, give and it will be given to you. And just being able to trust in that with all my heart and not to lean on my own understanding, it brings wise counsel to my heart. And so I'm excited about this one as far as just thinking about even me being on the receiving end and it being pressed down into me, shaken, shaken together, like just shaking me up, and me and my cup of fulfillment just running over, and that it will be put into my bosom. Um, and so that the same measure that you use— this is me saying this to me— whatever measure I use, so if I'm using the measure of a cup and my cup running over, it will be measured back to me. So therefore, you know, me giving wise counsel, you are— if you're listening, I pray that your cup is just running over, that you're just eager to go and read the word and study the word. So I, I really wanted to share that in our Grace Space on today. So the reflection on what are you giving And what are you receiving? So that, that's what I want us to reflect on today is, am I giving what I want to receive? Am I receiving what I'm giving? And just bringing that into your awareness and having a level of reflection. Reflection is always good because it allows us to go into our devotion. Now I'm devoting myself to giving more of myself in in, in everything, not just monetarily, not just physically or emotionally or verbally. Like, I'm not just— I'm going to say I give in this way. I give in multiple ways. When I wake up in the morning and I give my, my, you know, my, my, my all to, to God and say thank you, Um, or if I pick up the phone and I call someone, that's giving. Um, giving— even, even you being in someone's presence, that's giving. You're giving somebody that, that you're, you're present. So just being always mindful that you're always giving and you're always receiving. And so just know that in that great space, um, we are devoting ourselves to giving in some way, shape, or form. So the strategy and approach for today was identify your measurement. Be aware of what you're measuring and how much you can feel. And, you know, within that, that, that system of measurement for your fulfillment, what area are you fulfilled in? Which area are you not fulfilled in? Because when you If when you identify the area that you're not fulfilled in, then you can give out of that place. Okay. So if you're not fulfilled in understanding, okay, well, let me give understanding, understand how to give understanding, put it into practice, execute it, and guess what you're going to receive? He said, give it and it will be given to you. So that is the approach. And the strategy is identifying and locating you and what you use in your level of understanding, knowledge, wisdom, your level of awareness, all that as far as strategize and kind of look into your heart and look into what you're giving a little bit more. Um, so I encourage you to continue to look into what you're giving and continue to give. Continue to give. Like I said, you're always giving, so don't let that stop you. Don't let anything stop you from giving. Let's just improve the things that we are giving so that we can, you know, receive. So thank you guys for joining the Gray Space. I look forward to the next time. Hit that like and subscribe button. I look forward to giving you guys more reflection, devotion, and daily strategies and approach.
