Let's Talk Love / Mind Cast / #Sharnita

In this solo Mindcast episode, host Sharnita Gates opens a devotional conversation centered on the biblical concept that God is love. She weaves personal testimony, scriptural meditation (Philippians, Song of Solomon 5:8), and theological reflection to explore love’s dimensions—from youthful purity to spiritual maturity. Sharnita shares vivid anecdotes, including a childhood “marriage” at age five, a later adult relationship, and a confrontational moment with her father, using these stories to illustrate the dangers of premature love and the need for God‑grounded growth. She emphasizes the importance of continual engagement with Scripture, obedience to Christ, and the role of the Holy Spirit in guiding thoughts, feelings, and singleness. Throughout, she encourages listeners to pursue love that is rooted in God, to read and apply biblical “instruction manuals,” and to join her in ongoing dialogue, ending with a call to like, subscribe, and follow the show.

Hey everyone, and welcome to the Mindcast. I'm your host, Sharnita Gates, and I'm excited to be here in this place of love and grace. So Let's get started. I am opening up this space to just using this time to first, let's talk love. Let's talk about God. I love talking about God and how God is love. And so today in this Mindcast, we are opening it up. To just to talk about love. And I'm, I'm really happy, like, to be in this space and talking about this with you guys because this is new. This is new for me. I pray that this be new to you and to everyone who's listening. Um, when I talk about love, I can talk about God all day. And so today is going to be like a free time for us to just dive in and be free. It's so much freedom in God. And just to be able to talk about, you know, how he so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son. He gave us Jesus. Now that's love. That's love, y'all. That's love. That's love. So to be able to talk about that And just vast in that place of—I'mma keep saying it, y'all. Love, love, love, love. It's like saying Jesus, Jesus, Jesus. How great you are! And I think about it. Oh my! And when I look, I read Philippians, and it was like. Think on whatever is true, whatever is lovely, whatever is praiseworthy. Think on those things. And I can only think about God. Like, I need more of the word. And the more and more I, I, I read the Bible or listen to someone speaking about the word— like, Jesus is the word, so I love the word. I really love the word, and I'mma start it off with the word, you guys. Like, this really blew my mind every time I read it, and every time I read it, it's always in a place where I'm like full and so much in a place of thankfulness. Like, when I read it, I'm like, God, thank you, you are a great Father. Thank you, thank you, thank you. You know what I need. You know what I'm looking for. When I'm when I say looking for, I'm out in my my heart. What my heart is full of, and I'm just so thankful for this mindcast space where we can just talk about love, and I could just share in in it. So. Let's let's read now, you guys. Anytime I speak from Song of Solomon, know that this is just me being real and open. I'm going to be all in my feelings, all in my feelings. And when I say my feelings. If you guys haven't checked out the Gray Space, we talk about the feeling, the feelings of the cups of affection, attention, all those other ones, comfort and, uh, security and support. So I'm going to be all of my feelings, especially in Song of Solomon. We hear a lot of times when we're like, yeah, I like listening to music. But why? Like, for me, it gets me all in my feelings about where I can think on certain things. And being able to think about God and his greatness, his love for me as a father, it's, it's, it's— for me, I'mma just be honest, you guys, this is a new space for me. This, this thing, talking about love, Being in love, sharing love—it is a new for me. So I'm thankful to be here and talking about love. I can't wait till we open it up so you guys can you know share and talk with me about love because yeah let's let's let's get into this word Song of Solomon and it's going to be. Chapter 5, verse 8. We're just gonna do verse 8. I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem, if ye find my beloved, that ye tell him that I am sick of love. Oh, let's read that again. This is a message, okay? This is a message. I charge you Oh daughters of Jerusalem, if ye find my beloved, that ye tell him that I am sick of love. Okay, so daughters, y'all hear me? My beloved listeners, as you— if you, um, find my beloved, tell him I'm sick of love. I'm sick of love in a good way. You ever been sick and it just feels so good because you at a place of relaxation? Your mind is placed on things that just— it's just you and God and his presence and everything that he's done for you just comes back up and you just like, oh, I'm overwhelmed with the love of God. How he saves by giving me my love. He gives me my love. Oh, how I embrace that! How I embrace that to be able to think about my Savior, my King. Giving up his life for me. Oh, how special is he? See, that's how I feel when I start to think about my beloved love. So that's why I said when I read Song of Solomon, I be all in my feelings. I just got filled up just off of that one scripture. And being in that place of freedom, I was just watching a video of when I was 13, you guys. I was like, that was like the purest form of where I'm at now, but now I'm in maturity. So it's a difference between love when you're, when you're At a place of purity, and then there's another thing of love at a place of maturity. Hey, God our Father really knows what we need that will mature us in a way where we'll be free to express the things that we're dealing with, and this is going to be a space where we can talk We can talk and it's going to be grounded because there's things that we just have to discuss. And that's why I love when he said, do not awaken love before it's time. And I was, I was thinking about like when I was 13, like I awakened that love way before it was time because I don't know, this is just a story, you guys. Let's listen. I got married when I was like 5 years old, 5 or 6 years old. Now, you know, it wasn't like a real marriage, but, uh, it was in the— you know how the apartments have the washer and dryer stations? Got married there. Yeah, we had a, you know, our honeymoon and everything, so Um, Jermaine, if you're listening, um, um, I'm, I'm still a loyal person. Um, I'm joking, but, uh, yeah, it was a ring and everything, you guys. So, but just talking about how you shouldn't awaken love before its time because that place of purity It's where you get to really spend time with God, and that's where I can remember just being free. And no matter what come my way, it was just like, no, no thoughts. Like, really, I have really a lot of new thoughts in this whole maturity phase. You go from purity to maturity. Um, that the word really matured in you. And that's what I'm experiencing. That's why I said let's talk about love. The maturity that's in me and being able to spend time in reading about— and you just, just think about it. If you're, if your spouse, your husband or your wife was in a magazine or a book and you could only read about them, you know. Think about your imag— like, the imaginations that could be running wild, especially if it's not grounded in the word of God. We have to really ground our, our thoughts in the obedience of Christ. And when I talk about imaginations, I'm like, from, you know, having a vivid imagination, like, you have to really have control over those thoughts. Um, and that's why I said let's talk about love, let's talk about maturity, let's, let's have these talks because it's, it's a lot of responsibility. So as we are growing, we have to take that responsibility To be obedient, be obedient to those thoughts. Be obedient to our Father who is love, who has given us the love, and just keep keep it burning. Like I am on fire. When I say I'm on fire, if I didn't get on this mic and talk to y'all about love. I would probably still be fighting all these feelings, these affections, comfort and support and security with the word. And I'm— I really do. Um, listen, listen to this, you guys. In Song of Solomon, it said, I opened to my beloved, but my beloved had withdrawn himself And was gone. Oh, now I don't need no— I don't even know what shows are out right now, but right there, that's one of them. Pause this. Pause. Where's the remote? Pause this. What'd she just say? I opened to my beloved. But my beloved had withdrawn himself and was gone. My soul failed when he spake. Oh, oh, I sought him, but I could not find him. That's, that's that right there, ladies. How many y'all be like? Well, this, this, this. I go find. Look, y'all. Look, I'm I'm I'm still I'm stuck. I'm like just to imagine. I mean, if if we could be honest, a lot of us probably felt that where we felt like we opened up and. Somebody had withdrawn. Sometimes we feel like that when we open up and we try to pray, you know, pray to God, and we feel, you know, some sense of emptiness. We feel like maybe God has withdrawn from us, or— but really, he's always there, and Sometimes we could want God to be there, and he's like, I've given you guys Jesus, and then Jesus gave you someone greater, his Holy Spirit. So a lot of times it's— we, we could be looking for love and it'd be right there with us. And Jesus is always there. So much power in his name just to say Jesus. Something, you know, when we, we can say, you know, I know you're there, know you hear me, know that you may be teaching me something that I may not understand at this moment, but I can trust in you with all my heart. All my affection, all my security, all my attention, all my appreciation, all my acceptance. I feel accepted by you, Jesus. I feel accepted by you. I feel your love. You have that same love of your Father, of our Father, that dwells in a high place, and anything that takes up that, that space, that's where it's like, yeah, it's time to mature. Like, let this love mature. Let my love mature in Christ. Open up my eyes and my heart to see what I really desire. I desire maturity. Let's talk real. You have to be mature. You have to be mature enough to have wise conversations that don't lead my mind to worldly things. You have to lead my mind to the word. Take those Take that lie out. Take those lies out. Like we say, we taking the L out of the world and we come back with the word. So when you talk about love, you got to come back with the word. The word. The word. The word. Word. The word. The word. Just yeah. That's where my mind wants to lie. Oh. If you're casting any of that things that haven't yet matured, it's not a space where we should be. We are in year 2024, and I don't know many, many places I can go where I can just talk about maturity like Going full circle. Hey, for me, I'm at one moment I'm in grace, one moment I'm in joy, one moment I'm in love. Sometimes even I'm in a place of you know grief. I'm not always the chippery joyful, but even when I'm not, I still would love to dance. and praise him and shout and clap my hands and still be able to say thank you. Thank you in the suffering. That's love. Love to be able to say, I love you, Lord, even when things are going down, down south. Now a lot of things are migrating to Atlanta, um, so that just came to my mind, like when we talk about going down south, like Imagine everything just coming down to Atlanta, and it's just really turning the world upside down. Like we doing it. That's that's the power of my Jesus. Yes, Lord. My King. Yes. Yes. Um, thinking about that that that love of. Of Christ and the, the fullness of their, you know, the fullness thereof of the security in our minds. We can say love. I can tell, I tell you right now, I love you. I love you. No, you know, the word talks so much about love. If we If we, we hate evil, so therefore I love every one of you because the heart is deceitful and who knows it. But I do know love. I do know that God says to love, so I can love regardless of any Anything. Like, think about that, like the beauty in just— Jesus know every flaw that we've had. He still loved us. He loved us before he knew that we will be right here talking about love and saying his name and thinking about everything that he, he, he's done for us. But he didn't do that just so we could be sitting here talking about love. He did it because he knew that in order for us to be able to love, we had to shake off all of the things that try to take our minds off of the, the goodness of the creation of God creating each and every one of us and Providing for us and allowing us to be his most valuable, worthy creation, giving us the power over our thoughts, our bodies. We just have to tap into it. So let's tap into love as we mature. Let's tap into love. Love, love, love. God, God, God. Jesus, Jesus, Jesus. And the Holy, Holy Spirit. We call Holy, Holy, Holy. Holy, Holy, Holy. Yeah, now that's love. I just slipped into a place like, okay. More song of song. Yeah, yeah, I can. But being, being single, y'all, being— let's talk about that, being single. But when I think about single, what gives me so much peace when I think about singleness is Jesus was and he held All power in his hands. So he had the ultimate self-control, love, joy, peace, patience. He had it all, and he was fulfilled. He— and, and it gives me peace. It gave me peace. Now, being honest, it does make me want my king even more. Um, But I know that I can go to him at any time. The more and more I say, look, look, y'all, I'm on fire, I'm on fire, I'm burning for the Lord, for the Lord to just come snatch me up and We fly, and you know, look, okay, y'all, this is a story about the first time my my dad ever seen me with a a man, a a boy, or I was, and I was over like eighteen. Like, Dad, you never knew, you know, but. I had sat on his— I took, took the guy that I was dating and we went to my dad's house, and I was introducing the, the guy to my dad. And me, you know, I— It was really also my first, like, real adult relationship. 18, like really, okay, I mean, I think I'm in love, you know, smitten from, from day one. And, um, so I'm like confident, y'all. Hey Daddy, look. So, um, I, I proceed to sit on his lap. And if I've— look, I've never seen my dad ever like ready to snatch me up, throw me across the room. I don't know what his thoughts was, what his feelings, but when I tell you he pulled me to that room and said, if you don't get off of his Yeah. Don't, don't you ever let me see you. I said, but it was, it was, it was truly awakening to me to realize, like, wow, you know, that was a first for him, you know, like my daughter. Like, so even with God and me being his daughter Like how he sees like everything that I'm doing. Like God, I need, I need, I need to pass every like everything over to you, Lord. Everything that I desire to do, everything that I desire to, I need your, your guidance. I need your, I need you to Provide those that those words of wisdom that only can come from you, so that I know how to show up. I know how to do certain things. There's only one that could teach me everything, and that's you. And you like I've given all my instructions to you. And now I'm like, okay, y'all, as we mature, we got to read those, um, instruction manuals, okay? We have so many things being produced and we have so many new resources, but we have to realize that we gotta read. We really have to put the work in and read and go full circle. To really mature, watching things—that's just literally half of it. But that's not even half of it. That's probably like a quarter of the circle. We gotta read the the instructions. We gotta think on the instructions. We gotta watch the instructions. We gotta we gotta um. Not just read it, we gotta speak it. So that means hearing and actively listening to what we're reading, all this, and do it full circle and to really comprehend what the knowledge and understanding is that God has given us. And that's that wise counsel. Wisdom, wisdom. God gives wisdom, and from his mouth comes knowledge and understanding. So to truly understand and get that knowledge of what we're seeking, like even for reading Song of Solomon, I'm like, I have to read these things over and over. We started off with, I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem, Now I want you to say it to yourself because it might, um, it might register with you a little bit different than me. Because for me, I'm like, a charge? I don't want to be in debt, you know. So I have to pay that. I have to pay it. Um, pay something. A charge? I gotta either get paid in time, energy, effort, something. So if it's reading, if it's listening, if it's watching, or, or even thinking about the charge even of love, like literally listening in to the Father— like for me it was a very Quick when my dad told me to get off his lap. But it— that's a, that's a difference because that was like my first time. Like, they— the principal first, like, when he first said it, it was just like, oh, you knew he meant it, you know? So, and for me, that was like, wow, I I know, I know nothing. That, that's just it. I know nothing. And at this, at this time, I can truly say I still know nothing. I know nothing that really can say that I know everything. I know nothing compared to everything. I know nothing, and God knows everything. So God knows everything about me. He knows that I need a Savior. He knew that I would need Jesus more than anything in this world. I need the word. I love the word. The word give me so much peace, even when I don't understand it, y'all. Even when you— even when you don't understand, it still gives you peace. Peace in knowing that it's still the truth, will always be the truth, forevermore will be the truth and the way. So if I'm lost, I don't mind being lost because I know the way. Because I know how life can be when you don't know the way. So just like somebody giving you instructions on how to, or directions on how to get to one place to another, The way Jesus is the way to get to your destination, and wherever you're trying to navigate in life is life. You're trying to find Jesus and his Holy Spirit. So I love, I love Jesus. I love The Holy Spirit. Hey, hey you. So I affirm and I devote that I love love. Ah, that was freeing to say I love love. I love to love. I love to love. I love to love. So I thank you guys for joining as we talk love on tonight. I pray that this has been a time where you just started to think about love and how you can be more fulfilled with the love of God, the love of Christ and his Holy Spirit. Take it in. He loves you. He loves you. Thanks for joining the Mindcast. I'm Sharnita Gates. Make sure that you like and subscribe and check us out and follow us on all social platforms.
