Resting From Work

Sharnita Gates explores resting from work as a spiritual practice rooted in Christ's finished work. She connects biblical passages about the acceptable year of the Lord and God's satisfied vengeance on the cross, urging listeners to pause from daily labor while continuing to fertilize their hearts with God's word during Lent.
Chapters
where we dive deep into the word of God to cultivate fertile hearts and sow seeds of transformation. I'm your host, Sharnita Gates, and I'm thrilled to embark on this journey of faith and growth with you. Today we're going to be talking about resting from work. I want you guys to go ahead and Start to clear your mind and open up your heart to receive because we are doing the deep work, although we are resting from work today. Let's dive into the word. The word is coming from Luke 4:19, and this is going to be the King James Version. So get ready for the thou art. What we should do. Um, but seriously, Luke 9— I mean, Luke 4:19, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord. So we're talking about resting from work, and although we may be resting From our daily jobs, we still have work to do, and the work is for the building up of the, the saints. We need to continue to fertilize our heart. This is the good work that we get to actually continue to work Every single day into our lives, into our hearts, into our minds. And that's what we want to do with this daily mindcast is to fertilize our hearts. So this seed that we're planting on today is coming from Luke 4:19, and that is to preach the acceptable year of the Lord. And we're going to start off with Isaiah 61:2. And that says that the purpose of the coming Messiah's ministry would be to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord and the day of vengeance of our God, is to comfort all that mourn. So what we are talking about today is just resting from work to preach the acceptable year of the Lord, and it's The prophet Isaiah prophesied that the coming Messiah's ministry would be that to preach the acceptable year of the Lord, and that was to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord and the day of vengeance of our God. So giving that over To God and saying the vengeance is the Lord's, is the God's, is God's. So the great religions of the world are vainly striving to find acceptance with God. So we want to be acceptable on the day of God's vengeance when he comes to comfort all that mourns. We As a— as in the world, we're looking for comfort, but the comfort has already been given us. So we, we come today asking for the Holy Spirit to have his way. Fill our hearts, fill our minds with your Spirit, the Spirit of God. And that was our previous text, was Coming from Luke 4:18 and said, the Spirit of the Lord is upon me to set at liberty those who are oppressed. We're talking about Christ as far as he came so that when God's vengeance comes to all that mourns, it will be the acceptable year Of the Lord. And today— oh, I think today, today is the beginning of Lent. So what is a better way to celebrate today than to say happy Lent, um, where we get to really connect with our, our Lord and our Savior Jesus Christ? And today we are resting from work, um, as You know, we know that Christ came to preach the acceptable year of the Lord. We the good work as far as salvation is to get to know Christ, get to know Jesus as far as he came so that we can be set free. Like he said, he came to. Proclaim, and he— that the Spirit of the Lord was upon him, and to set at liberty those who are oppressed. So he came to set us free so we can rest from those places of captivity. And that's what this Mindcast is about. We want to help you to reflect on Christ and the seed that let it plant down to our hearts. And if you have a chance, I would strongly recommend reading John 12:24, and it tells you more about the Son of Man and how what Christ did for us, it allows us to be able to Clear our minds and as we seek Him. So although that we're resting from our daily tasks, we still get to rest in the presence of God. So all the work has already been done. The cross is a finished work. So as we Think about John 15:5, for he is the vine, we are the branches. If we remain in him and he in us, we will bear much fruit, but apart from him we can do nothing. So we want to stay connected, knowing that the work has already been done. It's finished. There's nothing else that we will have to do besides continue to trust and believe and seek and rest in his presence. Ephesians 1:6 says, to the praise of the glory of his grace by which he made us accepted in the beloved. Jesus purchased peace with God through his suffering and death on the cross. So though the work has already been done, so as we pick up our cross daily and Luke 9:23. If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself daily, take up his cross, and follow Christ. So as we're following Christ, we know that the peace has already been provided. We lack nothing. Um, we are now acceptable to the Father because Jesus took upon himself The vengeance of God for our sins. So vengeance is God's. God has already helped us win the battle, and Christ gave his life. Like God gave forgave. I mean, God gave his only begotten Son so that he that believeth in him shall not perish but have everlasting life. So we are now acceptable to the Father because Jesus took upon himself the vengeance of God, and the Spirit of the Lord was upon him because God had anointed him to preach the gospel. And the acceptance of God means that we can live forever. So as Christ is our, our, our preacher, our teacher, he He can only say what the Father says. So as we seek for truth, knowing that he is the truth, he is the life, he is the way, so to the Father. So as we try to get closer to our Father God, we become more like Christ because Whatever you tune into, you turn into. So as you tune into the word of God, which he is about Christ, you start to turn into the, the character of Christ. So may the Spirit of the same Lord be upon us to preach the same wonderful gospel, to To take this wonderful good news to the lost and dying. That's what in Isaiah 61:2, when he was prophesying, he said, and the day of vengeance of our God is to comfort all that mourn, to comfort all that mourn. So as we reflect on today, Let's, let's, let's do the deep work and ask ourselves, do I tremble at the holiness of God and the contrasting sinfulness of mankind? Am I motivated by that revelation? And this is when we start to think on this and devote our, our time to say, let me do the deep work. Let me Really search my heart, God, and, and show me what's inside of me. And if I need more of you, let me pray and ask. So let's pray and ask God. Father, may I forgive— for, I mean, forever say with the Apostle Paul, thanks be to God for the unspeakable gift. Oh yes, the unspeakable gift. Oh Yes, glory, Lord. Hallelujah. Yes, Lord. Undescribable gift of Christ. Like, thank you, Lord. Thank you for even for the Holy Spirit, because it is his Spirit. He said greater is coming. His Spirit is, is, it's a spirit of A pure human flesh with a Holy Spirit of God. Oh, hallelujah! Thank you, Lord, for your gift. Thank you, Father. Thank you, God. Thank you, God. So let's set our minds on that today. That's our mind test for today. And as we come to the end of today's episode. I want to thank each and every one of you for joining me on the Mindcast.
