Wisdom and Instruction // Grace Space // Sharnita Gates

In this Grace Space session, Sharnita Gates leads a reflective devotional that weaves together several biblical passages to illustrate a step‑by‑step journey from wisdom to knowledge. She begins by sharing a personal revelation sparked by studying Proverbs 1,5,12, describing how wisdom leads to instruction, then to understanding, and finally to knowledge—an ordered process she likens to planting a seed. She relates this framework to mentoring two young men who lack father figures, emphasizing the spiritual father‑son relationship with God. Gates then moves into a “seek season” narrative, describing her current phase of seeking deeper insight after a previous Lenten season. The core of the teaching focuses on Matthew 11:7‑10, where Jesus responds to John the Baptist’s disciples, enumerating six miraculous signs (blind see, lame walk, lepers cleansed, deaf hear, dead raised, poor receive the gospel) and urging listeners not to be offended. She connects these signs to the earlier wisdom‑instruction model, urging listeners to ask God for wisdom first, then seek instruction, find understanding, and finally knock for knowledge. Throughout, she encourages active participation—getting Bibles, canvases, and colors—to “write the word on the heart,” and she ties the passage to themes of prayer, wilderness experiences, and perseverance in faith.
Chapters
Hey everyone, and welcome to the Grace Space. I'm excited to be here. I apologize, you guys, that we did not do it today at the regular scheduled time, but we are still going to dive into our Grace Space and do the reflection, the devotion, the strategy and approach, and really study to show ourselves approved. And this is still the year of consistent seed, so I would still want to plant that seed. And I've been going through, and it was a scripture that has really been standing out to me. And in all our getting, we are getting an understanding. And Hebrews, that's one book of the Bible that I, I want to dive into more. Um, because it has more— it has a lot on faith and the word, and it's in the, in the New Testament. So I definitely want to embrace the new will and agreement that God has for us. And today, you know, he said now faith, so let's do it now. Let's, let's really get the reflection, the devotion, the strategy, and approach. Now for our next, and we still put it in the hands of God. So today we're just going to write the word on our heart. So get your canvases, get your colors, and get your Bibles. Make sure you have your Bibles. Okay, so today we're going to go to Hebrews, but we're going to stay within the book of— I believe it's Matthew. And we're gonna try to, you know, just really take it incrementally because in all our getting, we're getting an understanding. And I want to share a revelation, um, that, you know, came to me this weekend. And I was— I was— I went back and studied Proverbs, just the beginning of Proverbs, because Really having these conversations. I have 2 young gentlemen that is going, you know, they just graduated high school. And of one father we lost, um, roughly about 7, 8 years ago, and the other ones father is just lost. And just— I'm— and I'm saying that because I know that they have a calling. You know, they're created, they were called, um, and they were commissioned for their own unique purpose that God has for them. And our relationship have really been one where They, they actually listen to me, and in a way that they trust the word, because I do speak the word to them. I don't want to speak to them if I'm taking the L out of the world and coming back with a word. I can't speak the world to them. And so Just having those conversations with them, and you know what? They gave he one one gave me a scripture. It was Proverbs five and twelve, and we broke Proverbs five and twelve. Now no, he's very yeah, he he will break. He will help you break the word down. Like he I started. He was reading it. He was like you. He was like, second point of view. That's when you say you, you looking at yourself in the second point of view. I said, wow, that really gave me a really good insight to how I can approach the word even more in depth. Now mind you, Dr. D had already gave me like, as far as now I gotta go really study Greek, and I've been studying Greek. And, you know, and then I realized like they don't have all the letters of the alphabet and kind of just, just learning some really new insightful things. But getting back to the point was Proverbs and it's going back to reading Proverbs. And one of the things that I've been studying as far as consistency is related is order. Mm-hmm. And just starting that, you know, starting with Proverbs 1, it provided so much order. And it was like to get wisdom and to get under— I mean, get wisdom, to get wisdom and get instruction. Now, once you get those 2, then it's to get understanding. And then is to get knowledge. So first comes the wisdom, and you said ask for wisdom. So first, like you said, ask and it shall be given to you, seek and you shall find. So you seeking what? The instructions. So now you're getting the instructions after you ask for wisdom. You're getting the instructions, and then once you actually seek, um, And you, you find, you find the understanding. So once you find, you go through and you get the instructions, the— you find the understanding. So now you're finding the understanding in the word, and then you get the knowledge. And the— you keep knocking, and then the knowledge will come to you of what God is. And I is revealing. And the reason why I brought up the 2 young gentlemen is because it's a father and son relationship. So getting better in relationships, I'm like, you know, a lot of times we hear about father and son, you know, fathers not being there. God is always there, and he had— he has always been there. from the beginning. And that was, that was like a real big eye-opener. And I was like, I was telling them like, if you want a, a, a father and son relationship, I would start in— especially if you don't have one, um, in the, the, the, in the, in the, in the natural realm. But in the spiritual realm, everybody has a father. Everybody has access to God. And so to get that relationship with God, especially— I was like, since Christ came from the lineage of David, and David was a man after God's own heart, and then David gave birth to Solomon, and Solomon was the wisest man in the natural realm. And so in the Bible. And so I just wanted to share that. That was like a big eye-opener. I'm still in the process of, you know, I asked for wisdom, the instructions. I'm still asking for more of the instructions because, you know, getting really getting that process right before, you know, I have a full understanding. But I did want to share that. Um, as just an enlightenment into, like, as far as our reflection on when we're reflecting on the word, this helps with a little bit of clarity on how to approach the process. Because a lot of times, like, I got knowledge of this, but you haven't read yet, got the understanding. Well, let's ask the question, have you got the understanding? Where did you get the instructions? And And did you ask for wisdom? Did you ask God first? So you have to ask God first. And so that's one of the things I, I was just wanting to share. But today we're going to go through Matthew 11:7-10. This is going— and, and we're going to go— I, I really want to We gonna break down Hebrews 4:12, okay? We're gonna, we're gonna take it slow, but we're gonna see how for today our reflection is going to be on Matthew 11, verses 7 through 10. And I think this reflection is going to bring a little bit of insight when we talk about If you haven't yet seen the prayer, have you played your wild card yet? But when it comes to prayer and going through the wilderness or going through different times in our, in our lives where it seems like we're hitting roadblocks and having, you know, going through different things that we're suffering in. This is the, the process of doing a reflection on today. I don't know, I haven't yet dived into it, so I'm going to dive into it with you guys, um, to really unpack today talking about, um, the wilderness and connecting prayer, all the things that we need. And because it's going to give a lot of insight to our devotion on where we need to devote ourselves, like, in the season that we're currently in. Like, for me, the season that I'm currently in is really— and like I said, this is seek season part 2 for me. We already had seek season earlier during Lent. This is like seek season number 2 for me. So I'm, I'm still asking, but now seeking, because there's something that I haven't yet found. And if I don't— do I know what I'm looking for? That's a question, you know, really. Do you know what you're looking for? Um, you're asking for— you're asking for wisdom, you're asking for faith, you're asking for clarity, you're asking for strength, you're asking where it is. But do you— when it's found, do you know what you were actually looking for? Because you might— like, for instance, for me, I could be looking for, you know, and looking, you know, asking for wisdom, but we're really— what I'm looking for is really the— not like— I'm really looking for knowledge, true knowledge. Um, but now having that revelation of, you know, wisdom and instruction and understanding, then, you know, knowledge. I gotta, I gotta knock. So, and first I have to find the understanding, and when I continue to ask, I'm finding a lot more. Also, let's get into— let's go ahead and get into it. Um, Matthew 7. We know Matthew 7:7, um, but we going to Matthew 11. 7 through 10, and this is The conversation between John the Baptist's disciples and Jesus. Okay, so let's let's let's let's read. I must— I like to first— I don't like to just read the scripture, um, so I'm gonna start with the start, uh, just the one scripture. I'm gonna start from Matthew 11:1 all the way to Matthew 11:10. Because we, we kind of touched on this, um, previously, so I really want to come in with a clear heart. So what I've understood in the past when it comes down to the conversation of with Jesus, John disciples, when John sent his disciples to ask Jesus how long. Um, and so this, this is— And it came to pass, when Jesus made an end of commanding his 12 disciples, he departed thence to teach and to preach in their cities. Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent 2 of his disciples and said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another? Jesus answered and said unto them, go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see. The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them. And blessed is he whoever shall not be offended in me. And as they departed, Jesus began to say unto the multitude concerning John, what went ye out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind? But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, they that wear soft clothing are in kings' houses. But what ye Went ye out for to see a prophet? Yeah. I say unto you, and more than a prophet. For this is he of whom it is written, behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare the way before thee. You know, this is good. Okay, y'all, sometimes I'm sorry. Y'all gotta forgive me because I'll be reading a word and I'll really be going in. So when the time when there is silence, it's that time to really be still and, and, and, and dive into the word and write it on the canvas of your heart. So before I started to, before I started to draw on the canvas of my heart, first I got a whole different understanding this time in reading this, this passage. Now I can go back to the passage now because now my mind is still on Hebrews 4:12. I'm not going to rush it. Um, I still really want— that one's going to take a little bit of time for me to really get that understanding truly. Um, Okay, get your colors. I wonder what you guys are— you guys have to start sharing in the comments. Um. Because I— for some, I'm— oh, okay. We talked about these. I think it was 6 things. The blind receive their sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor has the gospel preached to them. So, so hear and see. Those 6 things. And that's Matthew 5— I mean, Matthew 11:5. Okay, so I, I, I now I, um, and be blessed, not offended. So don't be offended. So blessed is he. So hear and see the six things that Jesus was. He said, "Go and shew John again those things which you do." So you do hear and see. So you do hear and see. So you hear and see, you by doing. So what you do based off of what you hear and see, if you see those 6 things, blessed is he. So you are blessed, you blessed. If you're not offended in me, in Jesus. So do we have be? Be not offended in me. You are blessed. So So the multitude concerning John, they— he asked. So the disciples left. So now the disciples, as they departed, the disciples Of John the Baptist left. And Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John. So he started speaking to the multitude concerning John and asked the multitude, what went ye out into the wilderness to see? We went to the wilderness to see. What did you? A reed shaking with the wind. He said, he like, cell phones are in king's houses. And he said, what? Went ye out for to see a prophet? He said, yeah. Yeah. I say unto you, and more than the prophet. And then he says— oh, this is good. He said, for this is he of whom it is written, behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare the way before thee. And this is what he's saying to the multitude concerning John. So he said, for he— In talking about John. Saying he's more than a prophet. He is— he said, behold, I send my messenger before thy face. It was written when he said, behold, I send my messenger. Before thy face. Which shall prepare the way before thee. So a lot of times— so what I'm, I'm getting from this is, as far as when it comes to going out to see something or going out to the wilderness to see, um, what are you going to see? Some, like, as far as, like, concerning John It was like if you— the reed shaking with the wind. I like, you, you know, a reed in a clarinet or, um, some type of instrument. It's like something when, when you blow into the instrument, the reed changed the way of the, the sound. So it was like when you went, he said went to the wilderness to see, or, you know, someone speaking in the sound of who was speaking? Um, or did you come and see a man in soft clothing? Because a man in soft clothing would be in the king's houses. Um, or did you come to see a prophet? And then so if, yeah, you came to see a prophet, he was like, yeah, when you come to see John, is more than a prophet, is actually Was written before when he said, "Behold, I send my messenger before thy face to prepare the way before thee." So he was basically saying that they like confirmation that this I will say this is confirmation of Jesus saying that. John the Baptist is more than a prophet. He was— it was already written, and he already foreknew that he would have— he would send— he and he would be a messenger that will go before them. And so, but as they were hearing, you know, he, you know, he said, he said that before them Well, to the disciples of John, he approached them to say, you know, go back and tell him what you hear and what you see. And those was those 6 things. And he told them that they would be blessed if they, you know, are not offended in him. So he told them to be not offended. Um, in, in him. And because John had heard of the works of Christ, so So, oh, this is good. Okay, so let's start back from the beginning. And it came to pass when Jesus had made an end of commanding his 12 disciples— so he had stopped— this was after confirmation, after the 12 disciples was Commanded to go and make. We would go and preach the word, preaching them. And so then Jesus, he departed to teach in their cities. So in this, so in the cities, the twelve disciples went, and then Jesus. Departed to go into those cities and preach and teach. And then it got back to John, and so So when John heard— I, I guess just like, so when we hear and see those 6 things, as far as you, you start to see the the blind receiving sight, the deaf, um, hear, the poor is, um, is being preached the gospel. All those 6 things, just be blessed to know and not be offended in what the work of Christ is doing. And so even when it comes down to the multitude of people receiving the word, or the, you know, when you have baptisms going on and all the the blessings that are happening, uh, with the— with baptisms, as far as even John contributing when it comes down to baptisms that still goes, goes on now. First, we have to remember, when we see, when we see and hear those things, it's, it's really, um, it gives a tribute to John the Baptist, as it was written, that he would make the way for um, Christ. And so now people are receiving, able to receive Christ, because John, he did the baptisms, he made the way, he sent his disciples to Christ to confirm that, you know, okay, I've heard but I can't see it. Because John was in— John was like, he was in prison, he couldn't see. He couldn't see it because he was in prison, but he heard. And so he heard— since he heard it, he couldn't go see, so he sent his disciples to see. And when he sent his disciples to see, and when they came to Jesus, Jesus gave him the confirmation and he said, go back and tell them what you see. Tell them that you, you see— you, you do hear and see these things. that you not, you know, you getting both, you know, you get both to hear and to see. And so that it kind of, it gives the ability to the confirmation that you're seeing the work of Christ and that, John, your work, it—
