Get fitter in 21 days with the Slimpod Summer Challenge

Caroline Lockie went from size 22 to size 10 through walking and running. This week launches a 21-day fitness challenge: pick a daily movement target, set a phone alarm every 50 minutes, and log progress in the SlimPod Club Facebook group. Any movement counts.

So here we are, week 3 of the Summer Challenge, and I thought I'd do a video this week because I have a lot to fit in. So let's just recap on the last 2 weeks. Number 1, you set your goals, and those are incredibly important because they give you, your conscious mind, direction. They also help you get to the bottom of why you actually want to lose weight. Because it's all very well and good to say, right, I'd like to lose half a stone in 4 weeks or drop a size in 4 weeks, but if you haven't got a desire or the motivation to do that, with the best will in the world, it's going to be a bit of a struggle. And heading into week 3, you just need to check your motivation level. All sorts of things can affect motivation. Health issues, lack of purpose, low self-esteem, tiredness, stress— the list is endless. So the one thing I want you to do is not criticise yourself for having little motivation. The important thing is that you work out why you're not motivated and what's at the heart of it, because it's only by working this out that you can do something about it. Otherwise, you just end up throwing your toys out the pram and saying, right, that's it, I can't do it, what's wrong with me, blah blah blah, forget this, all the rest of it. Be really honest with yourself at this point because it's so important to get to the bottom of the whole motivation thing. Now, moving on, it's been a wonderful— it's been wonderful seeing all your recipes and pictures in SlimPod Club and on social media. And do remember, I'm on Instagram, and I love you, I love seeing you over there too. Keep all those pictures coming. We all have to eat, and it's really useful seeing lots of ideas flowing through. So this week is when we step up the exercise, and I'm upping the game a little bit because I'm giving you a challenge within the summer challenge. Last year we ran a fitness challenge to coincide with National Fitness Day, and it was a roaring success. So today I'm launching a 21-day fitness challenge and I'd love you to be part of it. And yes, I know this will carry on for a week after the summer channel— summer challenge officially ends, but that's great, you've got another week of motivation. If you're in the Our Slim Pod Club private group on Facebook and you took part in the challenges last year, you'll know there's been some amazing transformations from people who've simply been consistent with their exercise. Take Caroline Lockie. She joined us in January 2018 and was going into a size 22. She started walking and running first and used the C to 5K app. Over the past 18 months, that's progressed to 10K runs, a 15K triathlon, and a 25K triathlon. I'm exhausted just thinking about it. During that time, she's lost almost 40 pounds and is now a size 10. There are others like Caroline in the group too. The lovely Janet Phillips, for example, she seems to walk the length and breadth of Scotland. So this 21-day challenge I'm launching is fabulous and super easy. Just set yourself a daily exercise goal. It could be a distance to walk or run, for example. It could be a number of strength exercises to achieve, such as squats, press-ups, or sit-ups. If you have limited mobility, then simply do as much as you can, but anything is better than nothing. If you're at a desk in the day, set an alarm on your phone every 50 minutes to remind you to get up and move for the next 10 minutes, even if it's walking around the kitchen or at your desk. For you, or you could run or walk up and down the stairs. That certainly gets the heart rate going. Skipping ropes are great for, for small bursts of energy, and so is the lovely Lucy Wyndham-Reid on YouTube. The lovely Nikki O'Hara will be starting off a new C to 5K thread on the SlimPod Club too, so join her if you want to give that a go. There's no better time to do this Watch out for the new Slimpod Club accountability thread for the exercise challenge. If you're not in Slimpod Club, then please use this blog post as your accountability partner. Post a comment every day to share your progress with others, and I'll monitor how you're getting on and hold you accountable. And remember the Slimpod message: all movement is exercise.
