Weight loss is in the brain not the belly - Part 1

Sandra, a weight-loss specialist, argues that lasting weight loss depends on understanding why you eat, not willpower or the latest diet. She addresses common struggles like cravings and emotional eating as signs you need to shift your mindset, not your meal plan.

Hello, Sandra here again.
In over a decade as a weight loss specialist, I've seen every problem you can imagine and heard every desperate cry for help. If I've been able to give people one thing above all others, then it's hope. Because every problem has a solution, every question has an answer, and every obstacle can be overcome. Now, as you can imagine, I get asked a lot of questions, and these are some of the most common ones. See if any of them sound familiar to you. How can I lose weight if I don't have willpower? How can I get my missing motivation back? How can I stop my cravings for sweet things? How can I stop snacking in between meals? How can I stop eating when I'm bored, anxious, or lonely? At the heart of each of these questions is a desperate plea for help, and my years of experience have taught me that people who have been trying over and over again to lose weight without any success reach a point where they— all they see in front of them is a big brick wall. Most of them have tried every diet under the sun and now they feel defeated and ready to give up. They've lost hope of ever changing. Their bodies shame them into guilt and sadness which makes them eat more and more and put on even more weight. But it really doesn't have to be like that at all. Change can happen. It is possible. What people need to understand is that the key to lasting weight loss is not in the belly but in the brain. It's not just about what you eat, but why you eat is hugely important too. People have believed for years that weight loss is all about diet and exercise, so they continue to jump on the next fad diet that comes along. They continue to do what they've always done, and then they moan when they get what they've always got, which sadly most of the time is Failure.
