Two people discuss pit stops on private jets. A one-hour fuel stop over Africa is fine if you fly twice a year, but becomes a pain if you're going monthly. The real answer: buy a plane that matches how often you actually fly.
You can fly from London to Dubai. You can fly from London to New York. You'd have to make a stop if you flew down to Cape Town from London. But from Dubai—
How much of an inconvenience is that stop, by the way?
If you're flying over Africa, you might have to detour to an airport that's maybe not directly en route. It's an hour inconvenience to go down, get fuel, and go back up. It's not the end of the world. But if you're doing it every month, you'll get upset. Why didn't I buy an airplane that can get nonstop? If you're doing it every 6 months, it makes no sense. You're better off getting the two-section airplane. It's more fuel efficient. You're not carrying around all that extra weight and cost, and you can get a newer airplane. But if you're doing it every month, you will start saying to yourself, why did I do this?
