A group wants to buy a €6 million HondaJet and rent it out at €5,000 per hour. Steve Varsano breaks down the real costs: fuel runs €1,300 per hour, fixed annual expenses hit €500,000, and per-hour costs add another $2,500. The rental math doesn't work.

These boys are now in the middle of negotiating to buy a Honda jet for €6 million. 80% is financed and they have to come with 20% equity. Also rents out €5,000 per hour and they as shareholders can use the plane for €1,400 per hour. I told them that I'm going to ask Steve advice.
Bullshit. Great. Okay, €1,300 an hour is the fuel. The fixed cost you have to pay, the pilot salary, the insurance, the hangar, that's like €500,000 a year. And then every hour you fly it you maintenance reserves, you have landing fees, you have catering, you have hotels for the pilots, you have $2,500 an hour just for fixed costs. Nobody buys a jet new and rents it out, thinks they're going to fly for free or cheap.
