How to sell a $20,000,000 corporate jet.

A seller with 40 years of experience defends a $21.99 million asking price on a corporate jet, citing a recent major inspection and a crew-rest cabin the buyer needs. The buyer's rep says they'll take it to their client and come back with a reasonable offer.

My buyer, he's got the horsepower to write a big check, but he's not like a heavy spender. Calling about your serial number.
Yes, sir.
And I'm almost afraid to ask the next question, which is what's the asking price on this one?
Price has just been lowered to $21.99 million, uh, $22 million.
Yeah, okay. Have you guys turned down any offers already? Yeah, 20. If he comes back to me and says, oh, offer them $19.5 million and I can just sell him right away, no, you're just wasting your time.
The problem is people, they don't really know what market is, and they just hear an asking price and they make an offer for 10% or 15% or 20% less. It's just arbitrary. I've been selling airplanes for 40 years. I've never had anybody tell me my asking price was too low. This airplane's just coming out of a major inspection. Literally, it came out a week ago.
There's obviously a lot to like on this airplane. It does have a crew rest, which is good because that's a must for us. Oh, by the way, where is it physically located?
Mostly between Europe and Africa. Good deal.
Well, let me pass along this info to my guy, and if he's willing to come up with a reasonable, non-offensive offer, then I will reach out back to you. Great. Thanks so much for your call. Appreciate it.
I'm not sure what his budget is. I'm not sure if he knows what the client's budget is, but he's looking for a specific kind of airplane. They should know what the price range of those airplanes are. I think there is a real buyer behind this person, but the question is, what's he really willing to spend in his head? A lot of times people say there is no budget, but there's always a budget. People have a number in their head that they want to stick to, but sometimes they just don't want to say what that is.
