Steve Varsano pushes back on the idea that small plane operators cut corners. Modern aircraft maintenance is computerized and strict, pilots won't fly unsafe planes, and large operators like NetJets actually fly three times more hours annually, causing more wear. Smaller firms offer better service at regional airports.

Why would I go to an unknown plane owner compared to a corporation? Because here's the thing: plane owners are notorious for skimping on maintenance.
Okay, I'm sorry, Kev, this is just not true. You really can't— you cannot skimp on maintenance that's required on your airplane. They're much more technical today. It's all computerized. If something needs to be done, it has to get done, and no pilot is going to fly the airplane if they think that maintenance is not being done on the airplane. They still have to fly it with their life on the airplane as well. And the other thing is, is that when you talk about NetJets, NetJets is flying the airplane about 3 times the number of hours that a normal corporate jet flies per year. So it's getting a lot more wear and tear and use on the airplane than, than what you say is the mom-and-pop one. Sometimes smaller is better because the management companies are much more attuned to giving you better service like you were explaining previously about going into these small airports for versus going into San Francisco Airport. You just get much better care and NetJets really is,
