Steve Varsano, a private jet specialist, tells young people to stop hiding behind phones and go to industry conferences instead. Walking the floor and talking to people directly opens doors that texting never will. Seasoned professionals want to mentor those who show up.

So one of the problems with the youth of today is they're always used to being on their phone. They're texting, they're WhatsApping, and they're not getting face-to-face with people. What people need to do is to network. They need to go to different conferences, conventions for the industry that they're trying to get into. Anybody can go to mostly any conference. You pay the admission fee, you walk around, you educate yourself on all the different products, companies, and just walk up to people and ask them and talk to them. And a lot of people would be more than happy to help a younger person.
