After his divorce, Speaker B met a woman in London and started visiting frequently. He moved his business headquarters there, telling himself it was for the international market, but admits the real reason was the personal connection. Speaker A notes he frames it self-critically.
Is the reason you specifically chose London as your headquarters?
Yeah, I met a girl who lived here. I was living in New York, just got divorced, and I came over here. Somebody introduced me to her, and I came every month, every 3 weeks, every 2 weeks. I was going to open up the showroom. It was my year, and I was going to do it in New York. And then I just convinced myself it made more sense to do it in London because the international market outside the US was underserved. But the real reason was because there's a woman here.
You say that you justified it in a negative way.
No, I justified it because for business it didn't make sense. The 60% of my market's in the United States. States, and I would have been in New York. Sometimes you do things for your own personal happiness, not just because of business. Anything you're going to do for business, you should 100% love what you're doing and everything about it. I just thought, well, part of my fun would be in London. It would be interesting to be here, she's there, and thank goodness it worked out.
