This trick for character development is definitely something you've never heard before. Interesting characters are never complex. All right, so there's chaos and order. Each of your characters should fall towards one end of the spectrum— too much chaos or too much order. If you make one of them complex, which is the perfect mix of both, they're not interesting anymore. In Star Wars, you have Obi-Wan Kenobi and C-3PO who constantly want more order. However, you have Han Solo and you have R2-D2 who cause chaos anywhere they go. That's what makes those characters interesting. So make sure your characters fall as too ordered or too chaotic.
