HEALHY HAIR QUICKSART DAY 3

In this final‑day video of Tami Grgas’s multi‑day hair detox challenge, Tami walks viewers through the concept of “Hydrate & Shine,” explaining why hair hydration is essential for elasticity, strength, and gloss. She outlines common causes of hair dehydration—over‑washing, harsh shampoos, heat styling, environmental stress, and insufficient conditioning—then demonstrates three DIY deep‑conditioning masks (avocado‑honey‑olive‑oil/mayonnaise, coconut‑milk‑aloe‑vera, banana‑yogurt‑argan/coconut/avocado oil). Tami shows how to prepare, apply, and enhance the treatments using a plastic cap or warm towel to trap scalp heat, and stresses the importance of a cool‑water final rinse to seal the cuticle. She follows with practical maintenance hacks: leave‑in conditioners, protective styles, silk pillowcases, boar‑bristle brushing, low‑heat styling with protectants, and sealing oils (argan, jojoba, coconut). Interwoven are personal anecdotes about her 30‑year salon career, frequent moves, and her cat Winky, establishing credibility. The video culminates in a detailed pitch for her “Heavenly Hair” online course—50+ mini‑classes, workbooks, live Q&A, personal consultation, community access, and a limited‑time 50 % discount for the first ten enrollees—along with enrollment logistics (start Feb 15, Zoom, recordings). Tami invites viewers to join the Facebook group for Q&A threads and recipe sharing, positioning the challenge as the first of a series of monthly hair‑care challenges.

Hello. I'm a little bit early today. I have detoxed my hair. So sorry, I'm just rearranging my stuff here. Whoo! That was loud. Stop it, computer. Sorry if that was super loud for you guys. So what I've noticed is that quite a few people are watching the replays and not watching me during the actual thing. So that's fine. I wanted to get in here and do this now because my hair is still damp. So I used my apple cider vinegar. I will actually take this down for now and just do this, okay? So I used my apple cider vinegar mixed with water. I did it with cool water because cool water is going to close down my cuticle and clean off the outside of my hair. I didn't want it going inside of my hair, okay? So now we are going to talk about what we've done so far, if you've done this so far, okay? So welcome to the final day. Recap of day 1 and day 2. So we've detoxed and nourished. Now it's time to lock in hydration and create a radiant shine. Today we'll focus— oh, gotta go to the next slide. Today we'll focus on easy, effective ways to keep your hair moisturized and glossy. So you can maintain these, these results long term. So today I'm calling Hydrate and Shine. Okay, so I've given you some DIY deep conditioning treatments, and so, and there will be some hydration tips in here as well. So what is the foundation of hydration? Hydration is the key to glowing, healthy hair. Hydrated hair is elastic, strong, and resistant to breakage. So elastic, you know, you can like pull a rubber band, and it will go back to where it was. That's what they mean. If, if you pull one of your hair strands out and you pull on it and it just snaps, that's not good. It needs to have elasticity inside of it. Lack of moisture leads to dryness, frizz, and split ends. Hydration enhances shine by smoothing the hair cuticle, so making it lay down. When your hair cuticle is laying down, that means that the sun can reflect off your hair better, which is going to give you improved shine. So what's drying out your hair? There are some common causes of, of dehydration. Okay. We have overwashing or harsh shampoos. So some shampoos will actually strip your hair. And you don't need to do that all the time. So you need to be careful about that. Some shampoos out on the market are not the right pH for your hair. And that's not good totally, because that's going to swell your hair up. And yeah, then we have heat styling without protection. So if you don't spray on a heat protectant when you are using a flat iron, a curling iron, um, not so much a blow dryer unless you're like totally focusing that heat on like a, a round brush and heating it up a lot. Then you should use some kind of protectant. And then we have sun exposure and environmental stressors. Environmental stressors are— the air. You know, there's a lot of stuff in the air that's not healthy for us humans. So understanding the causes helps us prevent moisture loss in the future. And then we have lack of proper conditioning or oil treatments. Okay, a lot of people I have figured out don't do deep conditioning treatments. They just expect their hair to put up with that treatment, if you will. So here's a slide on how shine works. Oh, and there's my cat. Sorry, this is Winky. Winky thinks he owns everything, so no, you cannot. That's for my hair, dude. Down you go, down you go. Thank you. We'll see if he listens. So shine occurs when light reflects off a smooth hair cuticle. Now that's what I was telling you about the cuticle laying down flat. Hydrated, healthy hair has a sealed cuticle, while dry hair looks dull. Yeah. And then moisturizing treatments and protective products are essential to create that smooth, glossy finish. It is truth be told there. Then we have Pamper Your Hair at Home: The Benefits of Deep Conditioning. So deep conditioning actually penetrates the hair shaft for long-lasting hydration. So that means that elements within the conditioner can get underneath the cuticle layer and into the hair and give it moisture. Okay. So part of, how do I explain this? When you rinse out a deep conditioner, you really should end with a cool rinse because the cool rinse is gonna help your cuticle to shut down and close in and lock in all those nutrients that you've just put in, okay? Okay, so it repairs damage and reduces frizz. I hate frizz. I have to tell you, my hair's been doing the frizz game on me for a little while. So here's our DIY masks coming up next. Now this one is an avocado and honey mask. It's a hydration boost. I mentioned yesterday or the day before that my curl is not behaving. So in order for curl to be curlier, if you will, sorry, it needs moisture. So a hydration boost is really good for natural curl. The ingredients are a ripe avocado, have my avocado here, 2 tablespoons of honey. I didn't have any honey, sorry. Sorry. And a tablespoon of olive oil. So I've opted for a quarter cup of mayonnaise instead. Mayonnaise adds moisture as well. Now I'm going to blend this, and I've got a fork here that I'm gonna smoosh it up with. Oh, and I've got my olive oil right here. And I'm gonna put it on and then we'll talk some more. I won't put it on right at this moment though, because we got other things to cover first. Okay, so that's the Hydration Boost. If you have natural curl or you're finding your hair is just dull and lifeless, and so if you have super, super fine hair, be careful with the Straight Moisture one. I have fine hair. Okay. Okay. I do not put it on my scalp. This is not a scalp health deep conditioning. It's just for hair. So I will put it like my mid-shaft to my ends. Okay, so that was the avocado one. Next we have one that is strength plus moisture. So now this one would probably be better for finer hair if you want to put it all the way to your scalp. Okay. Okay, 9 times out of 10, when you put a deep conditioner all the way to your scalp, your hair is not going to be very cooperative the next day. So probably not a good idea to do it a Sunday night before you have to go to work on Monday, or, you know, that kind of stuff. But, um, I— I'm a school bus driver, and I work with teenagers. So I don't care what my hair looks like. I wear a hat most of the time, get a winter hat because it's stinking cold here in Nebraska right now. So anyways, this one is coconut milk and aloe vera. Okay, you can get aloe vera. I've gotten aloe vera at the Dollar Tree. Um, it's just an aloe vera gel, and you mix 1/2 cup of coconut milk and 2 tablespoons of aloe vera gel. Massage into hair and leave for 20 minutes. And then you rinse it out. And then the last one here that I have is for frizz control. So if you have, um, really curly hair and it's really frizzing out on you, this is really going to help to close down the cuticle and stop it from frizzing out so much. Okay. Okay. So the ingredients are 1 ripe banana, 2 tablespoons of yogurt, and 1 teaspoon of argan oil. If you don't have any argan oil, um, coconut oil can work, or, um, like I'm using avocado oil. So blend and apply and rinse after 25 minutes. So that's that one. So when we're applying the conditioning treatment, you want to have clean, damp hair. First, apply to the ends of hair. So I'm going to take my towel off. Well, I gotta mix it up first. But anyways, so I'm going to— where did I put that? Can it be? I'm a very fanatic woman. I say everything phonetically, so I call this a kniffy. Drives my family a little bit bonkers, but you know, it is what it is, and they shouldn't throw a fit. So this is like a super ripe avocado, one that is so ripe I wouldn't want to eat it, so I was like, okay, I can use this for my conditioner. Okay. My avocado out. I'm here. Okay. Get out. Did you know that technically an avocado is a fruit, not a vegetable? Because it has a pit. Lots of strange things like that. What was it? A strawberry. According to how a strawberry has its seeds on the outside of it, like it does, I've been told that a strawberry should be labeled as a vegetable. Mm-hmm. But it's not. Okay, so I have my avocado. I'm gonna kind of chop it up a little bit here. Then I'm gonna put my mayonnaise in there. Probably should have brought a towel in here, but oh well. Now, once you put the conditioner on, you can put a plastic bag on to make it go a little bit deeper into your hair. What that's going to do is it's going to create— so your scalp creates heat. So it's going to lock some heat into your hair. And it will— when your hair is heated up, it's going to swell it a little bit. Therefore, that cuticle layer lifts just a little bit. And the conditioner can go deeper into your hair. So that's the benefit of doing that. Oh man, I should have brought a little food processor, but I didn't. So this is what my deep conditioner looks like. Let me, um, excuse me. Ooh. Sorry, I got some avocado on my desk. Let me do— Remove you and show you. This is my deep conditioner. I was going to bring one of my salon brushes, my color brushes, up with me, but I forgot. So whatever. And I am in my housecoat and my pajamas because I had a shower later in the day to detox my hair before doing a deep conditioning treatment. Okay, so I'm just going to use my hands. You don't need a color brush or anything fancy like that. You can just use your hands, and then I will use my hair towel to wipe off my hands. So Sorry, I make sound effects with everything. So there are several different kinds of recipes out there, and I've been kind of gathering and testing out a lot of recipes lately. One of the recipes that I want to work on is this stuff. This is by Moroccan Oil, and it is not even really a paste. It's like a a fluffy stuff, and it smells so good too. But when I take it and scrunch it into my hair, my curls come out even more. So I, I want to figure out how to make my own of that stuff. So I'm just going to use my fork, put it in for now. Now you can see mid-shaft to ends. I'm talking about like from about here upwards. So I want to put it here and up. I don't want it right on my scalp because that means it will go bleh. That's a technical terminology. Not really, but yeah. Okay, so I'm just pushing my hair up and putting food on it. My family thinks I'm nuts right now because I usually do this like privacy of my own bathroom, but, but you know, they're used to seeing me color my hair and that kind of stuff, so no biggie. Hi, everybody. Now, as I'm putting it on, there's little chunks of the avocado. So I'm kind of squishing that in. That chunk is not squishing very good. Now, usually, if I was doing this myself in my bathroom, I would dump my head upside down, and I'd probably apply it in the shower or over my bathroom sink, just because it's kind of messy. Kind of smells good though. I can't hear you. You know, it's really quite bizarre. I used to— for years now, like, I've been doing hair for 30+ years. Crazy to think that. Feels like just yesterday I was working at Regis Hairstylist up in Alberta with all my girlfriends, but I'm now an American, and have a different life than I did back then, but I love hair. I love doing hair. I love playing with hair. I love teaching about hair. I love helping people to understand about their hair. And I have for years now, years now, I've stood in front of my bathroom mirror talking like I was filming myself. I was just thinking about that today, and I'm like, this is a plan that I think God has had for me for a long time, but I wasn't listening. So here I am. I think I'm doing what God wants me to do, helping other women to understand their hair, understand how to keep their hair healthy. So now at the bottom here I am going to my scalp. Just because that— here at the bottom, I don't need it to be voluminous so much. So here I've gone from here up with this concoction. But at the bottom and the back, I've just put it all the way to my scalp. That makes sense. So I'm not gonna take this off while we're on camera. I will rinse it off in about 30 minutes or so. And right now I need to clean it to get the avocado off of my mouse pad. And this. Okay, so now it's on my head. Generally, I would put a plastic cap on, but I'm just gonna put my towel on. It won't hold in as much heat, but it will hold in some heat from my scalp. Okay. So. Look. Avocado everywhere. Yeah, like I say, an in-your-bathroom is a better place for doing this. But I wanted to show you guys how to apply it. And yeah, gonna get this back up on the stage. Okay. So— oh, you can also— I forgot to mention that you can also place a warm towel on top, which is going to give it a little more heat so that it will penetrate better. So hydration hacks to keep your hair healthy. Cold rinse method: finish with cold water to seal the cuticle and lock in shine. Leave-in conditioners: apply a lightweight leave-in for ongoing hydration. Now, I will take a leave-in conditioner sometimes when it's the creamy kind, and I will use it and scrunch it into my dry hair for my curls to be improved. Hydration-friendly products: look for ingredients like aloe vera, glycerin and shea butter. Excuse me. Protective styles. So reduce manipulation and product and protect ends to prevent moisture loss. Okay. Protective styles are, you know, the, the, the messy bun. That's a protective style because you're tying your hair up. It's not blowing in the wind. It's not being exposed to all the elements. You're keeping a lot of your hair safe when you wear it up like that. So yay, bonus on you, right? Silk pillowcases. I couldn't live without my silk pillowcases now. Prevent dryness and breakage overnight. My silk pillowcases, I love them. They're so comfortable. And I usually wear all my curls kind of piled on top of my head in a loose pony holder. And when I wake up, I'm able to pop that thing off, shake my hair out, and maybe put in a bit of this stuff that I'm trying to learn how to make. And it's beautiful. So use a boar bristle brush to distribute natural oils. I'm not a big fan of the boar bristle brushes. I find with natural wave, natural curl, whatever I have, when I use that kind of a brush, it's going to be big and fuzzy. So I don't use a boar bristle brush unless I'm getting ready to hop in the shower and wash my hair. That's just the way it is. Like I say, it— that's more of a— to wash your hair before your wash, or to brush your hair before you're washing it. Okay. Avoid overusing heat tools. Use them on low settings with a heat protectant. I don't opt for the low settings. I opt for medium. I don't go super high settings. And the key to especially using a flat iron is you want to keep it moving. You don't want to hold it still anywhere. You just keep it moving. If you don't get it perfectly straight the first time, you go through it a second time, you go through it a third time. You just don't stop and hold it in one spot. That's dangerous. Apply a gloss spray or serum or oil for a finishing touch. I do use oil sometimes. A lot of times I will distribute oil in my curls when it's wet, though. And then I will let them dry naturally. And yeah, that's just kind of how I go with the oil. So shiny hair simplified. Benefits of using oils: creates a protective barrier to prevent moisture loss, adds shine, and reduces frizz. Best oils for sealing: argan oil for shine, jojoba oil for lightweight moisture, and coconut oil for deep hydration. So here's your shine checklist. Choose and apply one DIY deep conditioning treatment. Use a sealing oil to lock in hydration after washing. So that's why I do it when it's wet. And I just kind of, I kind of like scrunch it on my ends. So try a new hydration tip, cold water rinse or silk pillowcase or both. I do both. Share your favorite results in the group. If you're in the Facebook group, that's where the recipes are. And that is where everything is. So, or you could take— no, we'll skip this one. Bye-bye. Sorry. So do you have questions or concerns? There will be a day 3 question thread in the group. So you guys need to come find my group. I will— probably include links to the group in this video, possibly tomorrow. No promises though. No, I'll be able to do it tomorrow because I'll go pick up the kids in the morning and then be home for a while. So I'll do it then. So if you have any questions for me, please ask them in the group. There's going to be a question thread there's one for day 1, day 2, and day 3. And ask your questions in there, and I will be able to address each one in the group. So I don't know why that says see you tomorrow, because I won't, because this is my last one. Um, yeah, like I say, I'm going to be doing— Didn't turn down my phone. I'm going to be doing these challenges every month. For the year, and they're going to be different. This one will repeat, but slightly differently in about 6 months. And I'm doing a different one next month. So I hope you can join me, learn some more about hair. And I hope you let me help you with your hair. I'd love to. Oh, and about the— Hi, everybody. Of course, if you're interested in taking my course, which starts in February, please reach out to me. So I'm excited to do it, and I'm excited to teach. I'm excited to get all this— all these trade secrets they're calling them, which is ridiculous. Yeah. Like, I don't want to go there right now, but, um, I'm basically giving away trade secrets about the hair industry and the lies and the— yeah, all that stuff. So I hope to see you again. Have a wonderful week. Bye!
