Tamsen Webster explains the first test audiences apply to your idea: whether the if-then logic holds up. Before you present, check that the causal link is tight and plausible enough that a reasonable person would buy it.

So as you are thinking about presenting your idea, make sure not only that you have that conditional in place, that when you do this thing, then you can expect this to happen, but make sure that the likelihood that a reasonable human would say, yes, that makes sense as a possible way to do that, because the very first test that your audience is going to put your idea through is how likely is it that those two things are actually related? How likely is it that this will lead to that? Do the test yourself first and save yourself the trouble. Make sure that you've got that if and that then working very tightly together.
