Chapters

I would say I would follow my vision. I always had ideas early on about musical ideas, about visual ideas, about language, about image in the broad sense of it. I also learned to go for whatever comes to mind right away. I have an idea of transcription in the morning, sometimes I already will have a few pages of that down in the evening because I just like I have to do this right now! I am thriving when I'm exploring.
For our upcoming episode of The Piano Pod, I sat down with Assia Kurepanova, pianist, composer, visual artist, and poet. Assia is known for her daring piano transcriptions and for taking on extreme repertoire, including the complete solo piano works of Rachmaninoff and Liszt's 24 Études.
It might seem extreme, but extremity of it was that were the point. And it's not because I wanted to, you know, let's do something unusual. I just wanted to do this because it is due diligence of a pianist to say thank you.
In this conversation, we talk about long-form artistic commitment, transcription as a creative act, and what it means to build a life in music shaped by depth, curiosity, and fearless vision. Join the premiere tomorrow, Tuesday, February 10th at 8 PM Eastern Time on our YouTube channel, or catch the audio episode dropping at the same time. See you tomorrow.
