True Success: Why Writing Music Is the Real Achievement

is what you are really looking for that has got nothing to do with practical way, it has got nothing to do with fame, it has got— the real achievement is what you write, and that's it. That's what will be there in 200 years or something like that, and it doesn't matter. It's like, you know, whether you are famous, you are not famous, doesn't change anything. I mean, Mozart, you don't know where he's buried. Vivaldi is the same. And yeah, I mean, fame is fickle, and it's just, it's not so point, I think. And it's, uh, it's, um, it's not something that I really, uh, that I'm interested in, in some way. But on the other hand, I think that it's because if you write music, it means that you really love it above anything else. And then it's like in love in life. Let's say that if you, uh, you love your— in my case, if I love my wife, of course I want other people to love my wife as well, because I want people to see that she's wonderful. So it's the same about my works. If you really love what you wrote, you want to share it, but it's not something about ego. It's not ego. So, and I think that in some way there are two aspects with people like Ashkenazy. Uh, there is the aspect of the career that is a big one, uh, but there are also other aspects. For me, I listen to his recordings as a pianist all the way since I was a young boy, I knew all this. Well, one of the reasons why I really love Chopin so much is through his recordings.
