The thing I would encourage you to think about though is if you set an expectation for him, whether it is to come to a meeting prepared with something or to give you a deliverable or to report out a number, and if he doesn't do those things, what then? So for example, if you say, "I need you to come to this meeting with these things," and he doesn't show up with them, do you just continue the meeting? Or here, here's a big shocker. Have you ever considered just canceling the meeting? Just saying, "Hey, "Yo, what? I asked you to come with these. Since you don't have them, let's go ahead and cancel this today, and we'll reschedule it when you're ready to bring those to me." And that— those kind of actions send really loud messages that you're not playing around, you're serious with those things, and he can choose whether or not to do them.
