Brian Herbert said learning is a gift, a skill, and a choice. Most people appreciate training but lack the habits to learn from it. The ones who win take notes, make action plans, and talk through what they learned.

Heard a quote this morning that said, "The capacity to learn is a gift. The ability to learn is a skill. The willingness to learn is a choice." It's from Brian Herbert. You know, I give a lot of leadership talks at different organizations and events, and one thing I've noticed is that over the years there seems to be different groups of people in every audience. You know, I find that there's one group that's usually a small portion that really don't seem to appreciate the gift that their organization or that their leader has given them by investing in their growth. Sometimes they're even bothered by the idea that they even have to be there. And then I find that there's a second group that they really appreciate the gift, the investment in their growth and development, but they actually haven't developed the skill of learning. So the investment still doesn't yield the desired outcome. The third group are my favorite. Those are those that appreciate the investment and they've actually developed over time the intentional learning skills, things like taking notes, develop an action plan, discussing their takeaways. And so these people, they've made the choice to learn. So if you find yourself in some sort of training or development scenario and your organization or your leader has provided it for you, Don't just be grateful that they've done that, but choose to learn and intentionally develop your learning skills. Hope this helps today as you're out there being better.
