The #1 Quality That Makes Up A Great Junior Partner
30 Jan 2026 · 0 min
Paul Moon argues that influence, not clinical skill, is the #1 quality for a junior partner. Leaders need to affect staff behavior broadly. Once you can influence roughly 80% of your team, tactical and operational skills can be taught.
How do you get more new patients or hire more clinicians at your clinic and yet still remain profitable? This is the question, and I'm on a journey to get you the answer. I'm going to interview the best marketers and clinic owners across the world to give you access to their winning strategies from recruitment, marketing, operations, finance, and more. So you can easily take action on the secrets to grow your clinic. I'm Rick Lau. Welcome to Clinic Boss Secrets. Hey, everybody.
Rick Lau here in this episode, we talk about what type of quality do you look for in a junior partner? If you're thinking of having one at one of your clinics, check out this episode with Paul Moon, one of our business coaches. I counted two people that actually got it right, or at least what I believe is the number one characteristic. And I believe it's influence. Okay, Influence is extremely important when I put a junior partner into a leadership position at the clinic. And it doesn't even have to be a junior partner, it's just any leadership. Influence is key because you're not just taking on more responsibility, you're taking on this idea that you are now leading people. And those people, their behaviors have to change. Right? And if, you know, I used to think that all it took was a great clinician to lead other clinicians. They have to be really good at their clinical field. But I've made many mistakes by putting great clinicians in leadership positions and ultimately, they didn't have the right sort of rapport with the staff and they would end up just turning people off. And in fact, it made the performance of the business. So for me, if you're going to be in a leadership position, especially in a junior partner position, you have to be able to influence not just, you know, 20, 30, 40, 50% of the staff there, but 80%. And if you can do that, then I can teach you the tactics for the strategies or the processes to make a business run.
