Chapters
Most of the arguments about gentle parenting going on right now are just downright dumb. Of course we should want to be kind and loving and respectful to our children. Isn't that how we all want to be treated? But being a gentle parent isn't incompatible with also teaching our children consequences and setting limits with them in a firm but empathetic way. Children need to learn the consequences of their actions, and they need us to say no to them when they're getting aggressive. It helps them process their feel feelings and to feel safe. But being mean or raising our voice or acting like a dictator doesn't really work over time, and it can harm the relationship between us and our children. Let's end this false choice debate that says you can either be kind or you can have discipline with your kids. Being good leaders to our children and being kind are not opposing values. They are both necessary for good parenting.
