The greatest day to day mental health hack I know for parents costs nothing and it's Journaling There are four types of journaling that I recommend. The first is Morning pages. Three pages of stream of consciousness writing first thing in the morning getting out everything on your mind. This clears the clutter in your head and can lead to better focus and clarity. The second is reflective journaling. You can do this when something your child does triggers you or angers you in some way. Taking time to write about the feelings that come up can lessen anxiety and lead to more self awareness. The third the third is the four day journaling protocol. Here you take 15 to 30 minutes each day for four days to write about a troubling event in your life as a way to process it. This can lead to improved coping mechanisms and significant emotional catharsis. The fourth is gratitude journaling. Taking the time each night before bed to write about all the things you can think about that you're grateful for. This has been shown to boost happiness and well being and increase resilience in coping. Check out the full length video on our transformative parenting YouTube channel.
