How to Make YouTube Videos That Book Clients, Not Views

In this coaching-style presentation, Trena Little explains why viral YouTube views rarely translate into sales for coaches and course creators, and outlines a strategic framework for turning YouTube videos into client‑booking machines. She shares two contrasting client case studies—one with high views but almost no sales, and another with minimal views but $42K in revenue—to illustrate the problem. Trina identifies three recurring pitfalls: (1) using expert‑centric titles instead of language that ready‑to‑buy viewers actually search for; (2) creating videos about generic topics rather than specific purchase‑trigger moments; and (3) relying on volume or Shorts to fix a stagnant channel. She then provides concrete, data‑driven steps to diagnose and fix a channel: monitor click‑through rate (aim ≥ 4%), average percentage viewed (30‑45%+), and traffic to landing pages, and adjust titles, thumbnails, and content accordingly. Trina introduces a “Who’s Watching” custom GPT tool for generating moment‑focused video ideas, and advocates building bingeable playlist funnels that guide viewers through a buyer journey without sales calls. The talk concludes with a 20‑minute exercise (audit last 10 videos for the three metrics, reverse‑engineer the best‑performing video, and craft a next‑video idea based on a buyer’s recent trigger) and a promotion for her Evergreen and Evermore Virtual Conference on October 13, where attendees can workshop titles, strategies, and implementation.

I had a client posting videos to YouTube and those videos were getting tens of thousands of views, but he was only getting about one course sale a month from YouTube. That's basically wasting your time on YouTube. And then I had another client who after just 4 videos on YouTube, she had banked $42,000 in her coaching business from videos that were hardly even hitting 100 views. Why I tell you that is because you need to understand just posting a video to YouTube isn't what makes you sales, isn't what generates you leads isn't what gets the right people watching your videos that will turn into core sales, will turn into clients. Getting views on YouTube versus getting sales and clients on YouTube are completely 2 different types of videos. And when I'm reviewing a lot of coaches' and course creators' channels, this is the biggest problem that they're having when they tell me like, YouTube's just not working for me. I'm not making any sales. I feel like I'm wasting my time. So I wanna share with you the biggest patterns that I see when these business owners come to me and they're not getting sales or leads from their videos. And I want to give you an exercise, something that you can do right now to make sure the time you put into your next video turns into sales. And I'm going to tell you, I learned this lesson the expensive way because I still got this wrong even while implementing the proper strategy. At the beginning of 2026, a lot of my sales had started to slow down. A lot of my lead gen had started to slow down. And then those people that were still coming in just weren't the right people. They didn't have a business yet. They didn't have an offer yet. They didn't have clients. Or case studies yet. And so I took the time to audit my own channel, and what I found was my most viral videos, the videos that are getting tens of thousands of views, were bringing those people. And so the videos that had gone viral were not bringing me the right people for my offer, for my YouTube coaching experience. And that's why a lot of my enrollment for the program really slowed down at the beginning of 2026. And that was coming off an amazing year in 2025. And For sure, a lot of these videos that were bringing people in weren't even videos that I had done in 2025. And that's a good and a bad thing with YouTube because you have older videos that will continue to work for you years later. But if they're bringing the wrong audience, they will continue to work against you for a long time as well. And those older videos that had done so well for me for the wrong audience really took off, like came back to life at the beginning of 2026. So I made the final decision this summer to pull the plug and delete about 54 of those videos that had gone so many viral for me, but they were bringing in that beginner audience, people that were just not ready for my YouTube coaching experience. And then I went on a posting blitz in August, posting 3 videos a week to really readjust the algorithm. And then after about 6 weeks, my channel finally started pulling in a better audience, as in the applications I started getting were more of the right people. Now here's the part that kind of makes me laugh. Taki Moore, who I've learned from and is a coach to coaches, an over probably 8-figure business, posted a video just recently saying that bingers are buyers. And when he dug into his data, the one thing that his buyers had in common consistently wasn't that they came through a certain funnel or they came from a certain ad. It was how much content, how much of his content they had consumed before they finally said yes to his program. And I absolutely love him posting that video and that insight because this is literally what I've been teaching for years on my YouTube channel— ready-to-buy viewers. Into a bingeable playlist funnel built for that buyer journey, not only to get them to binge watch your content, but to take them through a journey to make them realize, absolutely, I need your offer. I've been saying this for years. This is what's been working for me and the clients that I've worked with. And now bigger named coaches, bigger named business gurus are saying this out loud. So the first thing I want to take away before we move on is that random videos can get you views. But strategic videos create a binge session, and the binge session is what allows you to convert and not even have to do sales calls. So that binge session is basically like your sales call, your discovery call. So what's the difference between a random video and a strategic video? There are 3 specific patterns, and if you're posting on YouTube right now and not getting leads or sales, about one of these is on your channel right now. So the first pattern that is causing this blockage of getting sales is that your titles are in your vocabulary. Your words and not your ready-to-buy viewers' words. What you really need to do when you're thinking about your content for YouTube, absolutely make sure that you're checking that this topic is being searched, but specifically the topic and the wording that your ready-to-buy viewers are searching. So when you speak to your audience or when they email you or when they sign up for your program, what are they seeing cause them to join you? What are they saying is the biggest problem that they're having right now? What is the thing that they want solved and what is the words they're using? How are they phrasing that? Because you need to realize you've got to word your videos in a way that she would be typing in her question at 11 PM at night when she can't sleep anymore because she has to get this problem solved. Because she's not typing something like healing your relationship with food through nervous system regulation. She's probably typing into search, why do I keep eating so much when I'm not even hungry? That is the same video, just 2 different ways of wording that topic. And this is like copywriting 101 for your website, right? You need to write in your audience's language. Not your expert language. She doesn't even know your expert language yet. I could come out here and blast all this YouTube vocabulary to you and it wouldn't really matter to you or even know what that means unless you are deep into it. And a lot of my clients aren't deep into YouTube yet. They're just posting and they want to know, why am I not making sales? She has to be able to find someone who's speaking in her language for her to want to watch that video. Otherwise, she doesn't know why she needs to watch this video because she doesn't even know what that means. If you've posted a YouTube channel in the last week, go ahead and drop the title in the comments right now and I will let you know. I'll give you a quick review of it if I think you are writing in expert language versus your viewers' language. Now, the expert language is 100% going to be in the video to prove that you know what you're talking about, but to get her to click on that video, you have to speak in her words, then introduce her to this concept that she possibly didn't even know exists and make her realize, oh, that's the problem that I'm having. Maybe she can solve that for me. Pattern number 2, you're making videos about a topic, not a moment. Now let me dig into this because I know I was just saying you're picking a topic, right? Topics are basically what you see a lot on YouTube right now, like 5 benefits to strength training after 40 or 7 misconceptions to hair loss, right? Those are topics and they're absolutely educational, but they are attracting curious, not ready to buy. So here's what I ask every single client that I work with before they film a single video or Any video really. Describe the week in your ready-to-buy viewer right before she decides to buy the solution to her problem. What has happened? Not how does she feel. What specifically happened? Maybe a renewal letter showed up. Maybe she finished the first draft of her book. What is that specific moment that made her realize, I can't do this anymore, I have to find a solution? And she's up at 11 o'clock typing in her question trying to find that solution. If you can name that event, then You can make that video for her so that it shows up exactly when she needs it. And that person, that particular event that you're calling out, the reason why she is taking a commitment to go find the solution to her problem is a ready-to-buy viewer. 100%, it's going to bring you less views to that video, but it is going to bring you buyers. And if you're a business owner on YouTube, you want to be focusing on the videos that are going to bring you buyers. Otherwise, why are you wasting your time on YouTube? You can go waste your time on Instagram if you want. All you can name is a feeling, like she's burnt out, she's ready for a change, she feels something, then you don't have a moment yet. And a moment and a feeling doesn't cause somebody to solve a problem. A specific moment does. And if you're sitting there thinking genuinely, I don't know what she's typing at 11 PM or what that moment could be, I built a free custom GPT for you and it's called the Who's Watching GPT. It's going to ask you a couple questions about your offer, your ready-to-buy viewer, and it's going to help you come up with video ideas that are in that moment. So if you want to get that for free, test out a video idea that you have, go to trenalittle.com/whoswatching because this GPT is built to create videos for buyers, not particularly masses of viewers. Pattern number 3 is thinking, I'll just post more YouTube videos, or worse yet, I'll just start posting more Shorts. Don't do it. When a channel isn't working, I watch coaches either try to pump out more content or try to start posting Shorts. Ready-to-buy viewers aren't watching Shorts. They're not even searching short-form content to have their problem solved. I want you to just think about your buyer behavior. When you have a problem, when you're ready to invest in a business coach, or you're ready to invest in a health coach, or you're ready to invest in something, are you gonna buy from a short-form TikTok or a short-form Reel? No, you want to sit with a person for a while, for a length of time, to really feel like they would understand you, that they know what they're talking about and that you like them, just posting more short-form content isn't going to even bring you the right person. What you need to be doing instead is looking at your analytics of the videos you are posting, because just like I say about your business data, you can't make decisions over a vibe. You have to make decisions based on data. If you have this vibe like, my channel is dying, my channel is plateauing, my channel isn't working, do not make a decision from that feeling or vibe. You got to look at these 3 specific numbers and it will tell you what's going on. This is actually something I do with every single one of my clients. I review their videos, I review their channels to make sure their channel is headed in the right direction. So that first number is your click-through rate of every video you've been posting. Listen, if you aren't getting at least a 4% click-through rate on your videos, it's like your video is failing the audition because what YouTube has done is YouTube has put your video out there in front of people and if people aren't clicking on it, one, it's obviously not interesting your ready-to-buy viewer, and 2, YouTube's gonna say, I'm not wasting space on the platform to promote this video, so we're just gonna bury it, and then no one finds your content. The second number is your average percentage viewed of your video. So you want to try to hit at least 30 to 45% average percentage viewed. This means the people that watch your video on average watch at least 30 to 35%. Now I do more detailed analysis for my clients on audience retention because this is huge, because if people aren't watching your videos, YouTube isn't gonna push it to people. And So this is just the one general data metric that you can look at to see, oh, my content isn't keeping people watching. Oh, my content isn't getting people to the end of the video. That's why it's not working for me. That's why YouTube is not pushing my content because you have to win the click. Then you have to get the viewer to watch the video. And then the third thing you need to look at, and not a lot of people talk about this, is tracking your YouTube traffic to a landing page, a lead magnet, a webinar signup, a sales page. You have to be able to see whether your YouTube videos are actually sending people to where you want them to go or not. Again, with my clients, they'll tell me, Trena, my YouTube videos aren't getting any views. And I say, okay, pause a minute, go look at your lead magnet page, go look at your email list. Has it grown? And then when they look at their email list, like, whoa, I got 10 new email subscribers this week. Yes. Remember, we aren't basing our YouTube success on views. We have to base our YouTube success on our business metrics. And if you aren't tracking that, we won't know. So here's one way that I do this in my business that's really easy. I have 2 separate funnels for a workshop that I do. One particular funnel, one specific page is for ads. So if I'm going to run ads, that is the only link that we use. And then the other link that I use is either the YouTube traffic that I'm getting or my email traffic. Now we have Google Analytics on this page, so I can literally see, are the people that are coming from this page from YouTube or my email list? And what are the conversion rates? Is my YouTube traffic actually converting or not? Because that's another issue. If you are getting people from YouTube to your pages, to your sales pages, and it's not converting, then we have a problem with your sales page or the audience that you're getting on YouTube. But without having this data, we can't really figure out what your next best step is going to be. So then what does strategic posting look like? On my channel and on every video that my clients post, each video has one job. Some videos are there to meet her ready-to-buy viewer in that specific moment that we talked about. Some exist to give them a quick win, to prove their authority, to prove they know what they're actually talking about, to build that trust. Because if they can help them do one thing in that video, that builds trust. Some are there to provide receipts, right? Show proof that what they were able to do with other clients could be possible for them. You have to show that you can literally get results from other people. And then some videos are there to specifically sell your offer. And that's really the system behind ready-to-buy viewers who binge, building this system in the proper order. And that's why just posting one random off videos is never going to work. Now, on October 13th, I'm hosting a virtual conference called the Evergreen and Evermore Virtual Conference. And this is exactly what I'm going to help you build during this one-day virtual conference. I'm going to give you the full picture of how my clients are getting found and booked right now and how they're planning to create more content in 2027 to do exactly that. And you're going to have time with me need during this event to workshop your title ideas, to workshop your strategy as well. Go to trenalittle.com/evergreen and grab your ticket so you don't miss out on starting to create strategic YouTube videos that can start working for you within the next couple of weeks and continue working for you well into 2027. And then here's what I need you to start doing right now. Remember, I promised that exercise. It's going to take you about 20 minutes. Open your analytics to your last 10 videos, or if you only have 5 or less than that, that's and pull those 3 numbers that I just told you: your click-through rate, your average percentage viewed, and are you getting an increase in traffic to your lead magnet, sales page, wherever you're sending people from your YouTube videos. This is your report card. Then I want you to take your best performing video, not your favorite, but the best one overall. So best one click-through rate, average audience retention. What does that winner have that the other ones don't have? Like, what is the concrete thing? Is it a style of title? Is it a style of thumbnail? Is it a the topic? Is it the way you delivered the content? That's your formula, and it's already sitting in your channel. You just have to find it. And then the third thing I need you to do, take your next video idea. Again, you can use my custom GPT, but you want to answer that moment question. What happened in her life in the last 48 hours before she'd search this? If you can't name something because that event causes urgency for her to actually want to solve the problem, then you can't film that video yet. Do these 3 things, and you're already going to be running more strategy than 90% of the coaching YouTube channels that I see today. And if you're already like, Trena, I want to see this whole system that you've built for your clients, I want to see exactly what you do to really build this YouTube channel that starts getting clients by just posting once a week YouTube videos, you can watch that full training that is on your screen right now.
