A gas engineer explains how boiler work has changed. Fifteen to twenty years ago, most failures came down to a few common issues. Now engineers need broad knowledge of many models and manufacturers to diagnose problems.
I wouldn't say much has changed in terms of being a gas engineer itself. I think what's changed is what you, what you need to know now. You know, when a boiler broke down 15 years ago, there weren't many things to go wrong as such, maybe 20 years ago. But now you need to have a bit of a base knowledge to help to make you feel more confident, to have a base knowledge of that boiler, that manufacturer, so that you can identify these issues.
