Boiler breakdowns, frozen pipes, and annual servicing. Most heating and plumbing businesses have an incredibly busy peak season marked by the first cold week of the year. It's an additional challenge that most other trades businesses don't have to worry too much about, but it does present an opportunity. We sent out a survey asking this very question, and we'll cover some of the best tips in this video. Now, if you're wondering how much busier the heating season is, don't worry, we've looked into it for you. Try and leave the last slot of every day for the emergency breakdowns. This isn't always easy, but it is a good way to get the more urgent jobs done quickly and keep the customers happy. Get someone to help with your admin workload. If you're still spending hours a week sorting through paperwork and issuing invoices, you are not maximizing your billable work hours. Always confirm the appointment the day before. Customers are forgetful, and there's nothing more annoying than turning up to an empty house. Ask long-term customers if they'd be willing to move their annual services to earlier in the summer. In return for them doing it early, you could offer a discounted rate. This is non-urgent work that gets redistributed from your most busy months to the quieter ones, so you aren't so packed in the winter.
