What's up guys, welcome back to the podcast. I hope you had an amazing Christmas or whatever holidays you celebrate with you and your family. I hope that it was spent surrounded by people that you love, or at least filling your cup up and doing something amazing for yourself if you weren't able to travel or be with loved ones. So yeah, I just hope you are enjoying this time and taking some space for yourself to kind of reset and recalibrate, reflect on the past year, and start to dream into and feel into what you are calling in for 2022, for the next year. So if you're listening to this episode in real time, we are fast approaching New Year's. 2021 is coming to a close. It's been a wild ride of a year. Similar to 2020, I feel like it has been the worst year for some people, it's been the best year for some people, and for some of us it has been simultaneously the best and worst year all wrapped into one. So whatever your experience with 2021 has been, I hope that you're taking some time to not just write it off or throw it in the trash or rush to the end of it and jump into the new year feeling like it's going going to be the thing that is going to save you, and to actually take some of the lessons and learnings from this past year and integrate them before you move really intentionally into the next year. So in today's episode, we're going to talk about exactly that. If you want this next year to be one of the best years of your life, I'm going to give you 5 really great tips. I mean, of course I'm gonna think they're great tips, I've fucking made them up, right? But I'm gonna give you 5 really great tips that I think are just gonna help you get your like mind on board and be intentional about how you wanna show up in this next year. And these are things that always have served and will continue to serve me. And so yeah, I just wanted to pass them on to you because I think they're really good things to think about, consider, and remember before you embark on this new chapter, this new journey, whatever you want it to be for you, it's helpful to have these things in mind and go into it with a clear intention and an open heart and an understanding of who you want to be in this next year. Before we dive into those 5 tips, I do wanna quickly remind you that if you're listening to this in real time, there's only a couple days left for you to join the Reset Challenge. So the Reset Challenge starts on Monday, January 3rd. So the last day for registration is Sunday, January 2nd. The Reset Challenge is a 10-day challenge that I'm running. It's only $55 US, and every day of the challenge you will be provided with some form of movement, a guided meditation, and a mini manifestation challenge. So this is a way for us to begin the year really strong, set the tone for who we want to be and how we want to show up in community with other like-minded badass women from all the world, moving our bodies, getting into our minds and meditating and taking action steps daily around manifestation and the things that are going to help us create space and call in our goals and desires for the new year. So I ran this challenge for the first time last year at the start of 2021, and so many of those women have had incredible transformations over this year. They've done other programs with me, they've launched businesses, they've created more success or money or gotten raises in their jobs or changed their career. Or met the person that they wanted to meet and fall in love with. They've had babies, like all kinds of incredible things have happened. So I want to extend one last final invite for you to get your butt inside of the Reset Challenge. It's an epic way to kick off the year. It's a really low price to be able to do something like this for 2 full weeks and be in my energy. I'm so excited to welcome you in and hear from you. We have an accountability group going on where we're going to be checking in every day and seeing how going with the movement, meditation, and manifestations. I'll be in there answering questions and supporting you in the best ways that I can. I'll also be hosting Q&A. So anyway, I'm not going to go over everything because I feel like if you're here and you're usually here every single week, you know the drill. But this is one last final invitation for you to join the Reset Challenge. You don't want to miss it. I can't wait to see you there. Welcome to the Makeshift Happen Podcast. I'm your host, Samantha Daly, entrepreneur, life coach, and your no BS bestie here to bring you all things mindset, manifestation, and personal development. This podcast is designed to help you expand your mind and uplevel your life. So turn the volume up and roll the windows down if you're coming along for the ride. Let's go make shit happen. Happen. All right, so let's jump into these 5 things. If you want 2022 to be one of the best years of your life, these are my 5 tips that I think are really relevant and are just going to help you be more intentional about going into the year and thinking about who you want to be and how you want to show up. So number 1 is to stop waiting for someone or something to save you. Now, I don't think that we're always conscious that we are doing this, but a lot of us are. And I even have to catch myself doing this sometimes, you know, thinking that somebody else has the answer somebody else knows better than I do about my life or the decisions I should be making, or some book or podcast episode or course or something is going to be the thing, it's going to be the magic pill that saves me, that like solves the problem or fixes the thing or grows my business or whatever, right? So I want you to think about the ways in which you may unintentionally or unconsciously be in the energy of waiting, like you're waiting to have the answer, you're waiting to have the permission, you're waiting to feel like you're ready, you're waiting to feel like you know that this is the right step. If you want this next year to be one of the best years of your life, you've got to get out of the energy of waiting. You have to stop waiting for someone or something to save you. You've got to stop waiting for people to change. You have to stop waiting and just hoping that these patterns you see over and over again are somehow going to be different when you wake up tomorrow or on Monday or next month, or that this person is going to come around or they're going to stop treating you this way, or they're going to finally start respecting your boundaries after they've crossed them 1,000 times. We got to get out of the energy of waiting and realize that the only person that is going to save us is us. The only— there's no one coming. There's no one coming to save you, to help, to fix it, to change it, to give you the answers, to provide you the permission, to push you harder, to provide you with more motivation and inspiration. No, that's you. That's your job. You are the only one that can save you. So what— however this is showing up for you in your life, it's really important that you get out of the energy of waiting and start moving into action and just being in acceptance of what is, you know. Like, what's that saying about like pain and suffering? It's something about like You know, pain is inevitable, but suffering is a choice. And to me, what this means is that of course we're going to experience pain, but suffering is when we choose to sit in the feeling of discomfort over and over and over again because we allow patterns to perpetuate. We allow people to keep treating us in a certain way. We allow ourselves to keep holding ourselves back. We allow the story to run-on that says, we're not ready yet, I can't afford it yet, I can't do it yet, I can't help myself yet, it's up to this person, I wish they would just change, when they do this then it'll be easier for me, then it'll be better for me, our relationship would be better if you just did this. When we're in that space of feeling like it's always outside of ourselves, that it's somebody else's job, it's somebody else's responsibility, or we just need someone else to change or do something or show up in a certain way so that we can be saved, then of course we experience suffering, because suffering is the resistance of what is. It's the denial of what is. It's not accepting that, okay, this is where I am, this is what the relationship is, this is the pattern I'm seeing, this is the evidence, this is the truth of what's happening right now, and now what, right? That's how we get out of suffering, is we ask ourselves, this is what it is, and now what? What am I going to do next? How am I going to respond to this? Instead of sitting in the victimhood of, oh, poor me, this is what it is, and so this is what it is. So the first one is really about getting out of the energy of waiting and getting into the energy of radical responsibility, taking 100% responsibility for your 50% of everything that you do and experience in life. If something is not working for you, then there's surely other factors and other people that are contributors to that, but you are also a contributor to that. How are you perpetuating that? How are you allowing that? How are you choosing not to change that or remove yourself from that or go beyond that? And so it's asking yourself those questions that allow you to get into radical responsibility, get out of waiting, and start taking action. Towards shifting things and creating the change that you actually want to see this year. Okay, so I have something I think you're really going to love and your business is going to love it even more. Do you want to steal the strategy I've been using to seduce premium buyers and sell out my offers on Instagram Stories? Chances are you're already posting, you're already making sales, but if your Instagram Stories aren't working as hard as you are, you're leaving money on the table. Sold Out Stories is going to teach you exactly how to change that so that you can sell out any offer at any price point. And even high-caliber coaches miss this because selling on stories isn't about how much you post or how frequently you show up face to camera. It's about psychological sequencing. And the way you're posting right now might be giving the premium buyers in your audience the ick. Documenting your day and hoping it builds trust, posting look-at-me content and calling it authority, sharing client wins as soon as they drop in instead of strategically weaving them into a story selling ones designed to drive demand and convert sales. We both know that you're not here to learn how to show up more. You're here because you know your content could be converting faster and more effectively. Sold Out Stories is gonna give you 5 high-converting story selling frameworks built specifically for premium buyer psychology. Inside, you'll get over 6 hours of deep dive video trainings, real IG story breakdowns, and live walkthroughs that show you exactly how to elevate your slides from authority building all the way to offer flow in less than 10 slides. My clients have already been using these frameworks to pull 5-figure sales days while posting less. One client generated 14 premium leads from a single story sequence. Another sold out her event in under 6 hours with just 8 strategic story slides. No sales calls, no paid ads, just the right frameworks. You'll walk away knowing how to sequence for desire, transition into your offer seamlessly, and sell daily without ever feeling salesy. You already know your offer is incredible, so now it's just time for your stories to sell it like it is. Grab Sold Out Stories today and turn 10 slides or less into your highest converting content. Let's make your next story your most profitable one yet. Click the link in the show notes below and I'll see you inside. Number 2 is don't take no for an answer. And what I love about this one is that this just came to my mind right now. I didn't really think about this when I was writing it down, but it just came to my mind. It popped into my head like a memory, like being thrown at me from the filing cabinet of my mind of when you were younger. Like, didn't your parents always say like, you, you can't, you can't take no for an answer. Like, I remember my mom saying this to me all the time. Like, you just don't know how to take no for an answer. You can't take no for an answer. Because I'm actually really good at not taking no for an answer. And that is— in my life, it has been a benefit to me. Obviously, there's a time and place for all these things, so I don't think— I'm not saying it's a great idea to always talk back to your parents, but having this as part of my character has really, really served me. Because when something goes wrong or something falls through, or I'm faced with some sort rejection, or I'm given a no of some kind, I'm immediately already thinking about how it can be redirected. I'm immediately already thinking about how it can be a redirection for me to choose another route or to find a different answer or an alternative way. And so what I really mean by this one is to not give up on your dreams just because you get a no, because you're, you're going to get a lot of nos. Whether you are building a business or you're trying to expand your career into a different industry or get a pay raise this year, or you want to find your person and attract that dream relationship, or whatever it is that you're trying to do this year that's going to make it one of the best years of your life, like know ahead of time that you are going to experience some rejection. You're going to experience some nos. And it's important that we recognize that those nos don't actually mean no, full stop, never, impossible, don't keep pursuing this, just quit now. Those nos are just divine redirections. They're saying not this, but maybe there's a different way. Maybe there's a different door. Maybe there's a better door. Maybe it's not this, but it's something better. Or maybe it's not this right now. Maybe it's not this yet because there's other work that needs to be done, but it's coming. And so that's a really important piece of what to do when you receive a no is to be really open and aware of what the possible lesson may be in that. Of like, okay, I thought that this was really what was meant for me. I thought this, this was the direction I was really supposed to go in, or I really thought that this was going to work out and it didn't. Okay, this sucks. I hate that feeling. We all hate that feeling of having high expectations or hopes for something, wanting it to work, and then it doesn't work. But what do you do with that information? What do you do with that? No. How can you keep moving forward? How can you take that no and integrate it and be like, okay, I see you, universe, and I raise you. Okay, maybe this isn't the way, this isn't the path, that isn't the door, but I'm going to go over here and I'm going to try this way, this path, this door. Watch me. Me. Let's see, right? Work with me. Okay, I hear you, I'm listening to you, I understand, but I'm gonna keep going, I'm gonna keep going, I'm gonna keep going. Not taking no for an answer is about not giving up on your dreams. It's about having a level of resilience when you are faced with adversity, and that is so important. Like, You can't create the dream life or even just an amazing year of your life if every time you feel like you failed or there's a rejection or you receive a no, you're like, see, I knew this wasn't gonna work, or see, men are always like this, or see, I knew I couldn't do this business thing, or I'm not cut out for this, or people are never gonna pay me that amount, or whatever the story is, right? Right. Don't lean into those stories. Recognize when the stories are showing up and separate them out from what you actually know and believe to be true, and most importantly, what you are choosing to be true. Because everything that we believe in life anyway is not ours. It's not unique to us. We're not born on this planet having all of our belief systems created and having them be unique to us as individuals. Every thought that we have is completely unoriginal. Because we've received this thought from somewhere else, from someone else, from a book, from a story, from something we've seen in the world, from our parents, from our guardians, from school, from wherever, right? We're born into this world as sort of blank slates. We don't just have all these thoughts and belief systems set up anyway. So everything that we think regardless and believe regardless is already a regurgitation that we've received from somebody else. So focus on what you're choosing to believe. Out of all of those thoughts and beliefs and stories that are circling in your mind, what are the ones that you're like, yes, that feels like it would benefit me, that feels like something I want to get behind, that feels like a belief that I want to perpetuate because it's gonna make me feel better, it's gonna make me, me feel more expanded, it's gonna make me feel more abundant, it's gonna make me feel like everything that I want, need, desire, and deserve is possible? What are those beliefs that you're choosing? And focus on those when you receive the no. Number 3 is to become an alchemist. If you guys have never read the book The Alchemist, it's a great book. It's super short, very fast to read, and it's like kind of like a tale, like a fairy tale, like a storybook. It's not like your typical personal development book that's like like How to Succeed or whatever. It's a storybook about a boy who goes on a journey to find the Alchemist, and I'm not going to give it away, but this one, for me, what it means to become an alchemist is to be able to turn your challenges and your pain and your setbacks into powerful lessons and fuel to put in your gas tank to make you go further. So someone who maybe has a fixed mindset or who is not in the growth space or is not working on themselves may see challenges, pain, and setbacks as a reason to stop or a reason to feel defeated or a reason to be let down. But someone who has a growth mindset and who is working on developing a sense of more abundance and possibility and expansiveness in their world, always at all times, is going to be able to see challenges, pain, and setbacks as the roadmap for where the work still needs to be done, or how to be better, or how to get closer to their goals. And so becoming an alchemist is the thing that you do after number 2, when you receive a no and you choose not to stop. You go, okay, this isn't working. What is it trying to show me? What is the lesson here? What am I meant to learn from this? This sucks. This hurts. This feels So not good right now. I feel isolated. I feel left out. I feel upset. I feel unseen. I feel unheard. I feel like my dreams are too far away. I feel like things are impossible. I feel like an imposter, whatever that is. And then what am I— where's the juice in this? What am I supposed to get out of this? What is the universe trying to teach me? And a practice that you can do with this is super easy. Just ask that question like, sit down with yourself, get quiet with your heart, tune into your intuition or God, Source, Universe, whatever you align with, and ask, what is the lesson in this for me? What am I meant to be learning right now? Please reveal to me what is the blessing inside of this pain, challenge, or setback. Because when you can start to alchemize those things and turn them into fuel that will make you go further, that's when you really start to speed up. Because most people get massively slowed down when they hit a road bump, right? When they receive a no, or they hit a block in their plan or their business or whatever they were trying to do, they're like, shoot, what do I do now? And they allow themselves to get stuck there. They allow themselves to go into the overthinking, to spiral into the worst-case scenarios, to tell themselves the stories about how it's not gonna work, how it wasn't meant meant to be, how I should just quit now. But an alchemist goes, okay, what am I meant to learn from this? How am I going to take this and utilize it and make it something that is serving me instead of hurting me? Number 4 is to make yourself a priority. This one is going to be huge for me especially. Which is why I'm sharing it with you. I only ever share things that like I would share to myself and that I am sharing to myself, right? We teach what we most need to learn. So make yourself a priority. I can't tell you the amount of women that I've talked to, whether they're clients or in the DMs or people who send me messages from the podcast, and we are all so busy. Hey, don't forget that every month we are picking a Listener of the Month to win $50 in cash just for showing love to the show. We'll announce the next winner at the end of the month and slide into your DMs if it's you, so keep an eye out and good luck. Love you guys and thanks for supporting Makeshift Happen. Trying to fulfill something We have big dreams. If you're an ambitious person, if you're a goal-getter, if you, you know, really want to create something special in the world, if you want to work for yourself or be your own boss or earn multiple six figures or become a coach or whatever, we're all so busy like running towards these goals that we start to lose ourselves within that. This also happens a lot to moms, and I'm not going to pretend that I know what it's like to be a mom. I think being a mom is one of the most heroic things in the world, and I imagine that it is an all-consuming task, job, responsibility. And so I'm certain that it is even more challenging for those of you who are mothers to make yourself a priority. But I think there's always levels to this, and so whatever level feels like it's a good level for you, that's the level that you should choose to be on. And you know, if Sally over there is single in her 20s and she's not a mom and she's making herself a priority because it's super easy and she's the only person that she has to worry about and she lives alone and she has nobody else to look after or care for, Don't expect you to be on her level of self-care or her level of making herself a priority. I think this also shows up for a lot of women in their relationship to work. There's a lot of us that are not making ourselves a priority because our work, whether you work for someone else or you work for yourself, is so important to us, or we are feeling like we're on that hamster wheel, like running full speed. Trying to get these goals or get to a certain place where we think it'll be easier to slow down or it'll be easier to be happy, that we, we stop making ourselves a priority or we're just choosing other people's comfort and priorities over our own, you know. So whether this is like your boss or even just people in your life are asking you to do a lot of things and you don't have boundaries in place or you haven't practiced setting or communicating boundaries that allow you to say no. And so making yourself a priority can mean a lot of things to different people, so it's up to you to determine what this means for you. But overall, I think it's about not choosing other people's comfort over your own and actually starting to assess where you're doing that, because we do this a lot without actually realizing it. So even just bringing that into your awareness and being like, oh, that's so weird, I actually just said yes to that thing, or I just worked extra hours, or, you know, didn't do my morning routine or whatever because I wanted someone else to be more comfortable, or I wanted things to be more convenient for somebody else, so I made them inconvenient for me. And it doesn't mean that we're always going to, you know, be able to choose ourselves over everybody else, especially our children. Children at every turn. Like, of course not. But there are ways where we can start to become more aware when we're choosing other people over ourselves and make a different choice. And to stop choosing productivity and arbitrary goals and shit like that over our own well-being. You know, this is huge if you are a business owner or someone who's running a side hustle, or you're trying to create something in the world of your own. You want to be your own boss. Like, we have to check in with ourselves and recognize when we are choosing productivity and producing and putting things out there and creating content and being of service to others always, all the time, over our own well-being, our own practices. You know, we're helping everybody else do all of these things that used to be a big part of our life before we started teaching them, and now that we're teaching them, we don't have time for them anymore because we're so busy giving and pouring into other people and answering questions and giving the advice and being the support system. And we have to look at that. We have to fix that. I mean, for so many of us, we have a sick and twisted productivity addiction. We would rather mark something off of a to-do list than actually fill our own cup and serve ourselves in some way, even if that means not doing anything and just laying on the couch and watching a show. Like, for me, that counts as productivity. You know, productivity is not always going to be Instagram-worthy. It doesn't only have to be those things that are aesthetic or that are kind of like the standard things that we see promoted as self-care. So I think, you know, an episode that's relevant for this— there's a couple episodes I've done on the show already that kind of go deeper into this topic if you want to do that. There's one called Productivity Addiction, and there's one called Self-Care Lies, where I kind of debunk the idea around self-care looking a certain way or being only certain activities or things like meditation and journaling and saging your room and drinking a green smoothie and doing a workout and whatever else, right? So we go, we go, we go in depth in those episodes if you want to go deeper into this topic. But this is something that I'm really passionate about, is is changing our definition of what it means to be productive within ourselves. And I think true productivity is doing anything that helps you get closer to embodying the future life that you desire. And so for me, as a business owner, in the future, I do not want to be having a to-do list that's 20 miles long and working all day from morning to night and serving clients and Instagram community and everybody else before I do things for myself. I— that's not my vision for the future. That's not my vision for my ideal life. I actually, in my ideal life, I probably would have enough time to lay on the couch and watch a fucking show. So if I do that now, that is considered highly productive to me because I'm embodying the person that I'm trying to become who is not constantly guilting himself into doing more things just because I think that more equals more. Sometimes less equals more, and we have to slow down in order to speed up. So in this next year, if you want it to be one of the best years of your life, I promise it will be a great idea for you to figure out how you can make yourself more of a priority and to stop choosing other people over yourself and to redefine what productivity is to you and and start to place your well-being on the top of your to-do list and make that really, really important. The last and final tip, number 5, is to ask for help. So this is for everybody. Whatever you're trying to do or create, or whoever you're trying to become in this next year, I want you to know that for sure there is someone, if not many people, who have already done that. And they have been where you are right now. They've been at this stage of the journey. They've felt the exact things that you're moving through. They know what you're experiencing. They know where you're trying to go and how it feels to be blocked and what is so confusing or overwhelming about this specific phase of the journey. Like, they've been there and they've worked it out already, and they've found the answers, and they've ascended beyond that point. So they have the cheat codes. They've been where you are and they have the cheat codes. So seek out those people and invest in their guidance, because you will save yourself months, if not years of trying to navigate whatever you're moving through on your own or for a lower price. There's this quote that I love that is, "The cost of anything is the amount of life you exchange for it." And I think that's a great quote for what we're talking about here, because if I know that someone has done exactly what I want to do and they have the cheat codes and they can help me go faster, and I can save a lot of time and energy of trying to research it on my own or figure it all out by myself or fail and get back up and learn from all of the mistakes and take that long curvy route, which there's nothing wrong with that. I think you will ultimately get where you want to go whether you choose to get help or not. But by getting help, you will be able to get there much faster. At least that has been so true for me and for the coaches that I work with. I know that's been true for them and for so many of my clients that I've served. You know, we've helped speed up their timeline immensely in terms of what they can do and create in their lives in a really short period of time. So if I know that something is going to save me a lot of time and energy, then it's worth a lot of money for me because time is a non-renewable resource. And I was actually just on Instagram before I recorded this podcast, and I came across a reel that was a voiceover from Jay Shetty, and he was sharing something from the Buddha, and it was like basically saying that the biggest mistake that people make is that they think that they have time. This is what the Buddha was saying, was they think that they have time. And yeah, we always say someday, someday, someday, next year, next week, I'm gonna do that when I have the time, when I have the money, when, when, when, when, if, if, if, later, later, later. But like, we don't have forever. We don't— we actually don't even know how long we do have. We have a preconceived idea of how long we think that we'll have, or how, you know, statistically, roughly speaking, how long we should have. But none of us actually know how long we do have. And so if something can save me time and energy and effort and help speed up the process and put me into a new timeline faster and get me towards my goals and help me start creating the life and the income and the impact that I want even faster, then I'm gonna pay whatever it takes for that thing. And I think a lot of us are still not seeing the value in that fully. And so that's my, my last tip and piece of advice for if you really want to make 2022 one of the best years of your life, ask for help, seek out the people that have done what you are trying to do, that have what you are trying to create, who are an embodiment of a version of yourself that you would love to become. And pay them whatever you need to pay them in order to learn their secrets and speed up your timeline and get to where you're trying to go faster. Like, for me, I just can't think of anything that is more worthwhile than doing that, which is why I'll spend my money on coaches and mentors and practitioners all day long, because I don't have time to waste I have big dreams for what I want to create in this world and who I want to be and the type of life I want to lead and the amount of impact that I can have. And, you know, creating massive abundance for myself so that I can spread it around and empower other women to do this work with me. And instead of being a lone soldier by myself, creating an army of love warriors who can spread this work into the world. That is so fucking important to me. I will invest whatever it takes to make sure that I'm becoming my best version, that I'm doing my inner work, that I'm getting help and assistance, that I'm learning the best business tools and strategies, that I'm growing, excelling, expanding, and rising. Always. There's no time for me to sit back and think, oh, I'll just figure it out all on my own. And there's nothing wrong with recognizing when you're in a spot where that is the option that you have to choose.
