Body Image Update, My Embarrassing Moment in Ibiza, & Business BTS
28 Aug 2023 · 44 min
In this bonus episode of the Makeshift Happen podcast, host Samantha Daly (joined by co‑host Jaime) delivers a multi‑part recap of August. The episode opens with a vivid travel narrative of their month‑long European adventure, focusing on the sunny, rain‑free climate of southern Spain and a detailed account of their Ibiza trip—including a hill‑top lunch, a Kygo concert at Ushuaïa, and a hilariously traumatic bathroom incident where Samantha had to improvise with a receipt as toilet paper. The story segues into behind‑the‑scenes challenges during their Lion’s Gate abundance workshop, where a lack of Wi‑Fi, an overheating iPhone, and a makeshift ice‑cooling hack threatened the live Zoom session for over 600 participants. Samantha then promotes her "Sold Out Stories" program, outlining five high‑converting Instagram‑story frameworks designed for premium‑buyer psychology, and mentions a related "money bundle" that many listeners have already purchased. A Listener‑of‑the‑Month cash giveaway is announced, encouraging reviews and Instagram DMs. The hosts reflect on the tension between a nomadic lifestyle and the need for a stable home base, sharing gratitude for returning home, adjustments to sleep schedules, and observations about Spanish versus American daily rhythms. Samantha provides an honest body‑image update, describing how she combats negative thoughts with affirmations, acknowledges a more sedentary post‑pandemic lifestyle, and commits to healthier habits like lemon water, gym visits, and mindful eating. Lighthearted anecdotes about their dog Storm’s first‑class ice‑cream treat and travel logistics (early wake‑ups, rental car challenges) round out the episode. The episode blends travel storytelling, personal vulnerability, business promotion, and self‑development insights.

When it happened, Jaime was like, are you gonna talk about this on the podcast?
Because he just knows, like, when these types of things happen to me, I just want to tell you guys about them because I think they're hilarious. So I'm gonna tell you a little story and we're gonna have fun. So let's dive in.

Okay, so the first thing that we need to talk about is the trip to Ibiza. This was the best part, like hands down the best part of our entire month in Europe, and I'm so glad that I convinced Jaime to go on that trip and make it happen. It was just chef's kiss, like perfect. It was amazing. Also, I never like realized this, but I've spent 7 summers in southern Spain, and in all 7 summers that I've spent there, it has not rained a single time. And I was talking about this with Jaime, and I was like, wait, like, has it ever rained? Does it rain in the summer? And he's like, never, because he's spent probably 25, 28 summers in southern Spain, and it literally has never rained in the summer months. So if you are looking for somewhere to have a wedding or go on vacation and you want to make sure that you're going to get good weather, southern Spain is the place to be. It's just beautiful and sunny every day. There's no thunderstorms, there's no rain. Like, it's just perfection. And even like in the Balearic Islands, which is like Ibiza, Mallorca, Menorca, it just like doesn't rain. So perfect weather all the time. That's like first and foremost. But I'll start at the beginning of this trip. So because we were at, um, Jaime's family beach house in southern Spain, to get to Ibiza we had to drive a little bit because we were kind of like in a small coastal town and there's not an airport right there. So we had to drive like an hour and a half to Seville or Sevilla and then get a plane from there, um, to go to Ibiza. And the flight is only like 40 minutes, I think, so it's pretty quick. But we had to drive, and our flight literally took off at like 7 AM. So in order for us to get to the airport with enough time to go through security and all the things and also drive to Sevilla, we literally had to wake up at I think 4 or 4:30 in the morning and We were dumb. I don't know what we were doing the night before, but we didn't end up going to bed until 1:45 and then we had to wake up. That's what it was. We went to bed at 1:45 and I set my alarm for 3:45.
So we literally—
it was like a nap. We literally got 2 hours of sleep and then had to drive to Sevilla and get on a plane. And then when we got there, we're like, okay, it's our first day in Ibiza. It's a couple of hours until we can actually check into the hotel. We've got to like go to the beach and go out to lunch. Like, we got to hit the ground running. We're not like wasting this day. So we literally just I don't know how we did it, but we powered through and we had an amazing first day. We went to the beach, we found this super cute lunch spot. Like, we tried to do reservations for everything ahead of time because especially in August, we'd never been to Ibiza before in August. We usually go in like May, June, maybe July when it's like less touristy and there's just less people there in general. This is our first time ever going in August and we just knew that everything was going to be a little bit busier than normal. So we tried to do mostly like reservations for everything ahead of time, but on this day we weren't sure how we were going to be feeling or what we were going to want to do. So we kind of left it up to wing it and we ended up finding the cutest place to have lunch and they just had like these amazing— it was like up high on a hill, but it was overlooking one of the calas or like one of the little— they're like little bays. It's very like rocky and then it's like the Mediterranean turquoise sea below. And we were just kind of like up on this hill, like overlooking the Mediterranean Sea and one of the beaches there. And it was so good. The food was amazing. Like you're sitting there every day. I left our lunches with, I think, the highest levels of serotonin possible in my body. I was just sitting there like you're in the shade. You've just come from the beach, right? So you're kind of hot, you're sweaty, you're hungry. You sit down at this beautiful place to eat lunch, you like pull your hair back, you're like, okay, I can breathe. You're sitting in the shade, there's a nice ocean breeze, you order a sparkling water with lemon, the food is amazing, the views are amazing, and you're just like, I could not be happier. Like, there is— there's nothing better than this moment. And that is how I felt literally every day after our lunches. I was just like, serotonin and dopamine overload coursing through my veins. So it was just the best. But anyways, after that first lunch, we kind of went back to the hotel, we got checked in, we took showers, we took a little nap, and then we had a really nice dinner that night. And it was just super fun. And then the next day we had the Kygo show, or maybe it was the following day, I don't remember. But that's kind of one of the other highlights of the trip was I got to go to the Kygo show at Ushuaia, which was, you guys know, was the thing that I just so wanted. It's the reason why we went to Ibiza. I just so wanted to re-experience that, and it was so much fun. But I shared on my Instagram stories that the DJ that opened up before Kygo was Jonas Blue, and I was like, he— I don't know why, but he was just giving like major douchebag energy. And it wasn't— it was like, there wasn't— it wasn't anything that he said. It was just like his mannerisms and like you could just feel it. It was like radiating off of him. And like Jaime was feeling as well. He was like, this guy is like giving me the ick. Like there's like just bad energy coming off of him.
Like, why does he seem like such an asshole?
And we were like, I don't know why.
Like, we like hate him for no reason.
It's so bizarre.
But the music was so good.
Like, he's one of those DJs where I feel like you probably don't know that you know a lot of the songs that he's mixed, but you probably do. Like, if you went on Spotify right now and you looked up Jonas Blue and you played a couple of the songs, you'd be like, oh yeah, like, that's a banger. Like, I've listened to that a bunch of times. I think the song that really popped off his career was when he remixed Fast Car by Tracy Chapman. And so he played that. And so the music was really good. It was just like his energy was very like off. And so I posted it on my Instagram stories and Apparently he's from Sussex, and the England girlies tell me that that definitely tracks, that he was giving douchebag energy. I personally don't know what that means.
I don't know anything about anyone from Sussex, but I just thought it was funny that someone was like, he's giving Sussex.
And then I was like, wait, I Googled it and he's literally from there. And she's like, yeah, that tracks.
Just like, okay. And I post—
I ended up the next day I posted one of the videos from his set. And I was like, do you guys see what I'm talking about? Like, are you getting the same vibe as we were? And so many of you were like, immediately, no.
Like, what? Like, total douchebag vibes.
Like, it was so bizarre and just like funny. But then Kygo comes on and he's like, got the biggest smile and his outfit is just like super cute. He's got these like flowy kind of like linen pants, like very Ibiza style with this cool top. And it was just like amazing. Per usual. Like, I didn't expect anything less. Um, and he— I feel like he played a lot more— he played a little bit like harder, not like techno. There was some techno-ish tracks, but it was just— he's definitely been evolving his style and vibe, I think, as everybody does. And so there were some of his like classic, um, Tropical House tracks, but then there was like a lot of different stuff and a lot of new stuff and just things that I didn't always associate as like his kind of brand or vibe. But it made me think a lot about how even as entrepreneurs, like, we are consistently evolving our personal brands and what we want to talk about and what we share. And there's always going to be those people that are like, oh my God, I miss when you were just like the Tropical House guy and you just did all these good vibes and stuff because there were some like moments where everything was like black and red and like flashing lights and a little bit like harder music. And it was just something that you— from what Kygo got famous for, you would just not associate that necessarily with his music or his vibe. And you can just predict that people would be like upset about it. And I was just like, you know what, I've experienced this firsthand with me and so many of my clients like stepping into their evolution and wanting to try new stuff and dabble in new areas and become new iterations of themselves and I'm just fucking here for it. Like, I'm going to enjoy the ride. Like, I am loving this experience. So that was cool. And it was just a really good— it was a really good show. I mean, it's always fun at Ushuaia because it's super— I mean, there's a lot of people in the venue, but it's like a very small little like beach club hotel venue and it's super easy to get to the front. So we got there., for the— just for the one opening act of Jonas Blue. And we were like right there. I think there was only like 3 rows of people in front of us. We were like right at the front. And so that's one thing that I do love about it is that it's very like chill. It's not like when you go to a concert or something in the US. I feel like you have to buy a certain ticket if you want to be close. You have to pay a ton of money. You have to plan so far ahead. Like you've got to get there early. You've got to stake your claim. It's just so chill there. And I think because he's also like a resident DJ in Ibiza, like a lot of them are. Calvin Harris, and there's so many people that are just like resident DJs there, which means they have a certain day of the week that they play every single week for the entire summer in Ibiza. So Kygo's days are Sundays. He plays every Sunday at Ushuaia. And I think that makes it a little bit more casual because it's not like the one time you can go and see the show. So yeah, it was like $80 to enter, and you just walk right up to the front. And I was like, this is incredible. And then if you have to go to the bathroom, you walk over and you go to the bathroom, and there's no line.
And then you come right back and you're back at your spot.
Like, it was just— I loved the chill energy of it. It was just like a really, really good experience. But here's the story that I have to tell you guys, because before we went into the concert— so what we typically do is we park somewhere near the venue because when you go to Ibiza, you need a rental car because everything is just kind of like off the grid, like separated by long dirt roads. The, the good beaches that you want to go to are like hidden. You need like Google Maps to get there, and there are these long, like bumpy dirt roads and all kinds of stuff. So you need a rental car. And so we usually just drive and try to park somewhere near the venue, and then we'll have some drinks before just kind of like hang out in like a little like outdoor area, Jaime and I, and have a couple of drinks, and then we'll go in. And so we are outside having some drinks, and I'm like, oh my God, I really have to go to the bathroom. And it's almost time for us to like— we have to go into the venue because we want to get a good spot and all the things. And I'm like, I don't think I'm going to make it to the venue and waiting in line. And maybe there's a big line at the bathroom. I'm like, I need to go before we go there. Like, this is urgent. And I have to say, my digestion when I travel is so bad. Like, it gets so messed up from flights and I'm usually constipated for like a couple of days. And then if I drink too much coffee, it'll be like running through me. And so my, my My digestion is just, like, not on point at all right now. And I'm like, okay, I've really got to go to the bathroom. I am not going to make it. So Jaime's like, okay, we parked the car kind of near, like, the back door of this— I think it was like a hotel or like maybe it was like the Hard Rock or something. But it was like this back area with, like, just basically like employee exit doors, like not, not pedestrian entrances or main entrances at all. And there was a guy coming out of the door and he's like, go ask that guy if like he can let you in and if there's a bathroom in there somewhere. Like, he's not going to let me in to this like business establishment so that I can take a shit. Like, are you insane? He's like, well, you got to lie.
You got to tell him something.
So I run over to him. I'm like, hi, sorry, do you work here? And he's like, yeah. And I'm like, could I use the bathroom? And he's like, oh, I'm sorry. Like, it's only for whoever. And so I had to make up a lie. And I was like, like, I just got my period and I just, I really need to run to the bathroom and put a tampon in. Like, so embarrassing. So sorry. But like, can you please let me in? He's like, oh my God, no worries.
These things happen.
So he lets me in the back door and he's like, the bathroom's right there. I run to the bathroom like, thank fucking God, okay? Because at this point I'm like, I'm gonna shit myself and I'm in a very cute outfit and I need to go see Kygo. That's the whole reason that we came to Ibiza. Like, I cannot poop my pants right now, I'm in a skirt.
So I run into this bathroom and I'm like, oh, thank God.
And I like sit down on the toilet and then I realize there is no toilet paper. Not a single shred. And there are no napkins, no tissues, no— like, I looked for everything in this moment. I can't even tell you the desperation that was running through me to the point where I was like, should I open the trash can and see if there's something?
But it's semi-clean enough.
I didn't do that. I didn't do that, okay? I did not do that. But those thoughts were like in my head because I was like, I like, there's literally no option right now. So I'm like, all right, I have to chance it. Like, I'm not going to be able to wipe, but like, I have to, I have to chance it. Like, just praying to the gods that I get like a clean exit.
So I literally poop in this bathroom praying like, please, please, please, please, please.
And I think everything was fine, but like, how are you really gonna know what's going on back there unless you wipe, right? So like, I'll figure it out. We'll go back to the car, like, I'll go through the glove box, I'll find something, and then I'll, I'll be able to like clean myself or whatever. And you guys, the desperation of this like is next level. So I, I run out and Jaime's like, oh my God, like, do you feel better? Are you good? I'm like, There is no toilet paper. I couldn't wipe. This is emergency, emergency, emergency, emergency. Like, I need to, I need to check myself. I need to wipe with something. When I tell you that there was literally nothing in that rental car, nothing that we could use, nothing in my purse, nothing. I thought we had a protein bar. I thought about unwrapping the protein bar and using that wrapper. But when I went to unwrap it, the protein bar had kind of melted and it was covered in chocolate. And I was like, this is worse. This is worse. So what am I going to do now? Okay.
So I have something I think you're really going to love and your business is going to love it even more. Do you want to steal the strategy I've been using to seduce premium buyers and sell out my offers on Instagram stories? Chances are you're already posting, you're already making sales, but if your Instagram stories aren't working as hard as you are, you're leaving money on the table. Sold Out Stories is going to teach you exactly how to change that so that you can sell out any offer at any price point. And even high caliber coaches miss this. Because selling on stories isn't about how much you post or how frequently you show up face to camera. It's about psychological sequencing. And the way you're posting right now might be giving the premium buyers in your audience the ick. Documenting your day and hoping it builds trust. Posting look at me content and calling it authority. Sharing client wins as soon as they drop in instead of strategically weaving them into a story selling sequence designed to drive demand and convert sales. We both know that you're not here to learn how to show up more. You're here because you know your content could be converting faster and more effectively. Sold Out Stories is gonna give you 5 high-converting story selling frameworks built specifically for premium buyer psychology. Inside, you'll get over 6 hours of deep dive video trainings, real IG story breakdowns, and live walkthroughs that show you exactly how to elevate your slides from authority building all the way to offer flow in less than 10 slides. My clients have already been using these frameworks to pull 5-figure sales days while posting less. One client generated 14 premium leads from a single story sequence. Another sold out her event in under 6 hours with just 8 strategic story slides. No sales calls, no paid ads, just the right frameworks. You'll walk away knowing how to sequence for desire, transition into your offer seamlessly, and sell daily without ever feeling salesy. You already know your offer is incredible, so now it's just time for your stories to sell it like it is. Grab Sold Out Stories today and turn 10 slides or less into your highest converting content. Let's make your next story your most profitable one yet. Click the link in the show notes below and I'll see you inside.
I am embarrassed to say that I ultimately had to wipe myself with a receipt, the receipt from the alcohol and the ice that we bought.
You guys, can you just picture me literally like in a back alley pulling up my like skirt, my cute little outfit, and literally like dead ass serious wiping with a receipt?
Oh, not to mention that I'm sure you've seen on TikTok how people are saying that receipts in general are like toxic and that you shouldn't even touch them with your fingers. Oh, well, don't worry, I wiped myself with one. Fully. And there was— you know what, I gotta say, the praying to the gods worked. We had a very clean exit. There was nothing on it. But I had to make sure. I had to be sure. How are you going to go into a concert and like have a good time thinking like, I don't know what could be going on back there? The kicker of all of this, the kicker of all of this is that after that happened, we were like, okay, we gotta go into the concert or else we're gonna be late. And I realize in that moment that I do not have my ID and I left it at the hotel. And so we had to get in the car, go back to the hotel, and I could have just gone to the bathroom in peace in my fucking hotel room. So don't worry, I changed my undies, I went to the bathroom, I cleaned myself with a, a Minty Fresh wipe, like, and everything was fine. And I got my ID and then we went to the concert and it was fine. But I just had to tell you this story because of how ridiculous it is. And I don't know why, like, these poop stories sometimes happen to me, and like, in the worst moments. I think I told you guys about the time that I almost shit my pants in New York with Lori, and we were like out with these comedians, and I was like, if I poop myself right now— and it was because of the coffee, the coffee, the coffee. This is why I don't drink coffee. This is why I don't drink caffeine. But when I travel, if I get super backed up, I'm like, we got to get something moving somehow. So I drink coffee and then I'm screwed. So anyways, hopefully, you know what, that probably was way TMI, but it's like I tell everything on the podcast. So this is, you know, you already know what you signed up for when you decided to listen to this show.
So anyway, that was my traumatic moment from Ibiza.
Everything else about the trip was gorgeous, flawless perfection, beautiful moments, turquoise crystal clear water, amazing beaches, the best food, super cute hotel, just amazing time. It was 10 out of 10, highly recommend. The other thing that happened in August was we had the Lion's Gate workshop on 8/8. So you guys know I always do the abundance activation workshop on the Lion's Gate for free. So a lot of you I'm sure came came to that event or watched the replay. And I just wanted to share with you some of the behind the scenes of what actually happened on that day, because if you came to the live event, you will remember that we started like 10 minutes late. And the reason was because at the beach house, we don't have any internet at the house. Like, we've gone there for 7 years, and I don't know how or why, but they still have not put Wi-Fi in that house. And Jaime told his parents this year, he was like, if you guys don't have Wi-Fi next year, we're not coming.
Because this was like such a dramatic thing that happened.
So there's no Wi-Fi at the house. And so we usually, you know, we have hotspots from our phones and we make it work for the minimal amount of work that we have to do while we're on vacation there. But the Lionsgate workshop was kind of like a big deal because there was like 500 or 600 of you. I think there was over 600 of you signed up for it. And so it was a really big event. And I knew that I needed good Wi-Fi because we were going to have hundreds of people on Zoom, and I wanted everything to go smoothly. And so for a week straight, I was taking mastermind calls, client calls, and everything was working perfectly. And there was no reason to, to believe that it wasn't going to work out for this event. But literally 3 minutes before we're meant to get on, suddenly all of our phones in the house had like no bars of service. And so there wasn't enough coverage to have strength to really hotspot effectively. So I could not get on the Zoom and I was like, oh shit, like there's hundreds of people waiting for this workshop to start. They're probably clicking on the link, like getting so confused, being like, what is happening? And I was panicking, trying all the phones, like shutting down Zoom, turning it back on. Nothing was working. And then I was like, this is going to be so sad. Like, if we can't do this because people love it so much and also it's a workshop that is based around this specific day. So if I have to do it tomorrow on the 9th, like, that's not how I want to do it. And so I was trying everybody's phones. Of course, Jaime's not home at this point. He's out like swimming in the pool or something. And I'm like talking to his parents. I run out of, out of the room where I was recording and I'm like, I need a phone, I need a phone.
And they're like, okay, okay, okay.
And I'm like, they all have Androids.
I'm like, I don't know how to fucking work this.
Like, I don't know how to share the internet and we're just sitting there trying to connect all these phones and I'm panicking. And then I call my assistant Lori and I'm like, hey, like, are you at your laptop right now? Are you working? Like, I need you to send an email and let people know, like, I'm going to be late. And she's like, shoot, I'm out, I'm shopping.
And I'm like, oh my God, what is happening?
And then finally, I don't know how, but like my phone just connected and Zoom finally worked. And I was like, okay, we're on. But it was like 10 minutes late. And so I was kind of frazzled going into the—
going into the workshop.
And I was trying so hard when nothing was working. I was like, do not cry, do not cry, stay in the energy.
Everything's going to be okay.
But I was really trying to like hold it together because I was getting kind of frantic and then it connected and we jumped on and it worked. Like I couldn't start the workshop with music how I always like to do because my Spotify still wouldn't open for some reason at that point. And I was like, all right, fuck it, we're just— we're going into it, we're going to make the best of it and let's just fingers crossed, pray that we have good connection for the entire workshop, which we did. But the other thing that happened was I just happened to glance down at my phone while we were in the activation. So everyone's got their eyes closed, they're meditating. I've got the track playing. I glance down at my phone just to make sure that everything's good. I had it plugged in to charge because I didn't want it to die. I didn't want the battery to die since I was hotspotting from it., and there's a notification on my phone that says charging has stopped because iPhone is too hot and it will resume when iPhone returns to a regular temperature or something like that. And I would, you know, if you have an iPhone, like when it overheats, it fully just like stops working altogether. So I was like, oh, fuck. Like, okay, it just stopped charging right now, but what if it like fully shuts off? That means I'm going to lose my internet. This thing's going to cut out. Like all these people are going to lose connection. So while everyone was in the activation, I get up, I run to the kitchen. I'm like, I need to find something cold. Like, I got to cool this down. So I reach into the freezer, I grab a block of ice, like just a bunch of ice cubes that are clumped together because we have nothing else at this point.
We're in like a beach house.
I grab this block of ice and I just grab the dishrag off of the, off of the oven. And I run back into the room and I literally just put my phone on a block of ice and cover it up with a dish towel and pray for the rest of the workshop that the temperature cools down enough that we don't lose internet and everyone cuts out. Oh my God, it was stressful. But there was like 230-something people on the call and thank goodness we held on by a thread. And everything worked out. I don't think anyone knew because some of my clients, some of my top tier clients, we got on a call after that. We had a mastermind call and they were like, oh my God, I was on the workshop, it was so good, blah, blah, blah. I'm like, you guys, you have no idea what I've just been through.
You have no idea. And they were like, oh, well, the good thing is that you would not have been able to tell.
So I just thought it would be fun to share with you guys some of the behind the scenes of— you just, you never really know. Like, what is going on and how events and things come together. So I thought that was funny. But then we had so many of you join the money bundle off the back of the Lionsgate workshop, which was amazing and so exciting. And I've gotten some messages from you guys already about how much you're loving Cosmic Cash and Wealth Calibration, and even some of the manifestations and abundance and money that's dropping in for you already. So I'm just So stoked for everyone who jumped in on that deal. That was like absolute insanity and just so much fun to see you guys taking advantage of it and already reaping the benefits. So yeah, that was kind of recap of Spain. Our trip kind of came to a close after that. We spent another week at the beach house after Ibiza and then 2 days back in Madrid before our big flight home. And on the flight this time around, Storm was like way more awake than he normally is. He spent most of the flight actually like sitting and chilling rather than laying down and sleeping how he normally does. And so we usually get, um, in order for Storm to fit, we usually get the bulkhead spot where there's no one in front of you. So there's like a big space between you and like this wall and there's just like a ton of legroom there. And so he can lay down there and I had a window seat in that area and he was literally, it was so cute. He was looking out the window like for so much of the flight. He could— it was a little too high for him, like he couldn't really see with his eyes, but he had his like nose like perched up, like trying to reach the window so that he could see out. That's what he does all day long at home, like because we have these floor-to-ceiling windows in our apartment, he just like lays in front of the windows and like watches the world go by. So he's definitely a window guy, and it was so cute. I got some pictures of him, he's just like looking out the window on the plane the entire flight. So cute. And then at one point he was kind of getting a little bit restless, so Chaim I took him for like a little walk, like up and down the aisle, and he was talking to one of the flight attendants and she was like, oh, does he want water? And he's like, yeah, he can have a little bit of water, but he really likes ice cream. And so then the flight attendant literally went up to first class and got him an ice cream bowl, like, and Storm ate ice cream from first class out of a glass dish. Like, this dog could not—
could not be more spoiled if he tried, like traveling the world, like going all over, eating ice cream in first class on the airplane. Like he's living more luxurious than we are.
So we love to see it. He was a very good boy and it was very, very cute. When we got home, our flight landed in Miami and then we had to drive back to Fort Lauderdale and we were exhausted. And so we showered and everything and just we're like, all right, we need to take a little nap. So we laid down at about like 4:30 in the afternoon to take a nap.

I woke up and it was dark outside and I looked at the clock and it was a quarter past midnight and I was just like, oh fuck, we fell asleep for like 6 hours.
Like, what? What?
Like, we're just dead out cold.
None of us Neither of us moved.
Like, and I wake Jaime up, I'm like, babe, it's literally midnight. Like, we were supposed to go grocery shopping, do all these things. We're like, all right, well, we have no choice now. We just have to keep sleeping. And so we kept sleeping. But of course we woke up at an ungodly hour because we went to bed at 4:30 in the afternoon. So we woke up at 4:30 in the morning and Jaime took the dog to the beach at like 5 AM. It was pitch black dark outside.
It was just very bizarre.
But that first full day home I was just like bursting with gratitude. I was so happy to like be in my house and just see my cute little apartment and have our big windows and everything be so sunny and all the green palm trees outside. And yeah, we went to Trader Joe's and I was just like, I love everything right now. Our cute little beach neighborhood, our house, our car, our shower. Like when you've been away from home for a long time and you come back, you have a renewed appreciation for everything. And I think that's one of the things that I love most about traveling is sometimes you get that feeling of like, I just want to get out of here, like I want to go somewhere else, I want to see something new, like I'm bored. And that's great. And you go and travel and you have an amazing time. And then when you come back, you're like so happy to be back and you're so happy to be home. And there's like this gratitude all over again for all the things that you were sick of a couple of weeks ago or you were bored of and you wanted to get away from. So I I think that's one of the ways to like keep life feeling exciting and good all the time is just getting away every now and again. It doesn't have to be like long trips or extravagant things, but distance definitely makes the heart grow fonder. And I feel like I'm just in a perpetual cycle of, of that, of coming home and loving being home and then getting bored and needing to go on a trip and then traveling and being like, this is the best, and then coming back home and being like, no, this is the best. So I think one thing that I really realized from this trip because we were gone for so long, is that there's this idealization, especially in the coaching space, of living a kind of nomadic lifestyle and being able to travel wherever and, you know, work from Wi-Fi all over the world. And I just really realized for myself, like, I need a home base. I would not do well if I was just going from Airbnb to Airbnb all over the world and having inconsistent Wi-Fi and just like not having my own space. So I was super grateful for being able to have a home that I love and I feel so expansive inside of. I think that was one of my biggest goals in 2022. Last year was the whole reason why I wanted to buy a house was because I wanted my own space. I wanted to decorate it the way that I wanted. I wanted it to feel super bright and light and have so many big windows and just have this cozy, beautiful space that I woke up every day feeling inspired by and wanting to work in my office and wanting to sit on my couch and watch movies and have the coziest experience and wanting to cook meals in my kitchen and wanting to lay down in my bed every night because it's the coziest bed I've ever owned. Like, that all felt like such a blessing just coming back from this trip of like, oh yeah, like, this is why.
We did that.
This is why we went through all of the agony and hard work of, of buying a house. And I think I really just anchored into that more of like the nomadic lifestyle just would not work for me. I love to travel, but I love to have a home base also. And one thing that I also realized coming back was I want to go to bed earlier and wake up earlier because we had like a little bit of jet lag coming back. It's always better coming back than going that direction. Like they say, whenever you travel east, you get really bad jet lag, and then when you come back in the west direction, it's not as bad. And I think that's really true, but we definitely had a little bit of like, we were just off schedule, I think because we got off to a bad start going to sleep at 4:30 in the afternoon and waking up at 4:30 in the morning. So for the first like 3 or 4 days we were going to bed at like 8:30 or 9:00 and then waking up super easily and effortlessly without alarms at like 5:30 in the morning. And it was so nice, like being able to get so much done and just feeling ahead of the day. But normally it's so hard for me to wake up that early. Like I've never been a 5:30 or 6:00 AM wake-up girl. Never. Like it's just— it, it's so hard for me to wake up at that time. And so I was like, oh my God, I want to make this my new schedule. Like, I hope this never goes away. Like, this is the best. I was really hoping that it would stick, but it, it hasn't. It's already started to fade. We went to bed the other night at like 10:45 and I was like, goddammit, I really wanted to be that girl that was like in bed at 9 and waking up at 6 and feeling like amazing. So, but I think I'm going to try. I think I'm going to make an effort. To go to bed earlier and wake up a little bit earlier and see how that works for me. I don't know. It's usually really hard for me to wake up early, but I think it's just because I need to go to bed a lot earlier. So I'm going to try because I was really vibing that. Like, I want— I want to— I want to have a grandma schedule. I want to go to bed at 9 or 9:30 and I want to wake up like effortlessly early in the morning. Like, to me, that's the dream. Also because the schedule in Spain was so bad, like their just life, eating, sleep schedule is so different. And I lived there for 6 years and I was used to it then, but now I've gotten back on like American schedule and so is Jaime. And so for the first time ever, he was like, yeah, this Spanish schedule is fucked, dude. Like, this is not okay. And I'm like, you see it now because you've lived in a different way. Like they don't eat lunch until 3:00. They don't eat dinner until 10:00. We would go out to dinners while we were there and the reservation would be for 10:00 or 10:30 PM and we would not get home from a dinner reservation until 1:30 in the morning. So we weren't going to sleep until like after 2:00. When you go to sleep after 2:00, you can't even wake up at 7:00 or 8:00 in the morning. We wouldn't wake up until like 10:00 and then half of your morning is gone of what you wanted to use to go to the beach. And it just, it was just so bad. So I think we both had like a renewed appreciation of like the American schedule of waking up earlier and going to bed a little bit earlier. And we're going to try and make it a thing. We were talking last night, we're like, it's already starting to fade. We need to be more disciplined. We need to make it— we need to make it a thing. We need to go to bed earlier.
So we're going to try.
I think the last thing that I wanted to share with you guys in this update is something that I noticed while we were on the trip. This is like the first summer in a long time where I was noticing the shape of my body more and having some of those like negative body image thoughts pop up again. And I think, you know, in the past when I would feel like, oh, I've gained weight, or I don't look the same, or I don't look as good in this as I used to, I would really let it get to me. And I just met all of those thoughts with love. And every time that I felt that, I would just reaffirm to myself and tell myself that I'm beautiful. And I think that it did definitely help me just continue to have a really good time on that vacation, even if I wasn't feeling physically my best in my body. The truth is that I have not been as active as I used to be, especially especially before I worked for myself full-time. When I was living in Spain and I was working for somebody else and I was actually going to a job physically in person, I would easily get 17,000 to 18,000 steps a day because I would walk to the metro, I would walk to work, I would stand and walk around the schools and the classrooms all day, then I would walk back to the train, and then I would walk to the gym, and then I would work out, and then I would walk home, and there were— and then I would walk the dog like 3 times. And I— my lifestyle has definitely become more sedentary since being back in the States and working from home and, you know, the business taking off and demanding more of me and all that kind of stuff. And it's not— it shouldn't be an excuse. It's just like a fact of like what's happened. So I have to like own that part of, yeah, you're moving a lot less. So of course, like your body is going to change and things are going to look different. But on this trip particularly, I was just really committed to not letting it change what I did or didn't do. There were definitely moments like when we were with other people where I noticed myself just feeling more self-conscious or thinking like, oh, I wonder how like my tummy is looking right now or how my legs are looking. And I would just try to bring myself back and use those affirmations and speak kindly to myself. But I was happy that I didn't let it change what I did or didn't do on the trip. Like, I still wore all of my bikinis. I still took all the pictures. I still ate all the desserts. I still drank the wine. Like, I still did everything that I would have done otherwise. And I think that's the best way to move through those moments of negative body image. Or if you just have some, some thoughts that you're like, these aren't the best, they're not serving me, is to not let them change your behavior of what you would do if you had a really positive body image day, let's say, or you had more positive thoughts running through your head that day. And so, yeah, I just wanted to share that with you guys and be really honest about that. I actually just feel ready to take better care of myself physically. And I think that's the thing that I'm walking away with is not like, oh, I feel self-conscious, so now I need to fix this. When I really anchor into it, it's like, no, I'm, I'm just, I'm just ready, like, to take care of myself more. Not that I wasn't before, but just kind of like upgrading my standards with what I'm putting in my body and prioritizing movement more. It's almost like I'm craving it because I— it hasn't been, it hasn't been at that level for a while. And so I feel like the natural, like, draw towards it. I'm like, that actually sounds good to me.
Me.
Like, waking up and drinking my lemon water again, like, sounds good to me. Feeding myself with really good foods feels good to me. I want to go to the gym more. I want to move my body more. I want to go on more walks. Like, it sounds appetizing. And so I'm excited for that. I'm looking forward to walking myself through that journey. Uh, the first ever episode of this podcast was about my body image journey. So if you guys are newer here and you have not heard that episode, it's from years ago, but But yeah, this just feels like an honest update on where I'm at with that, like 3-ish years down the track. Because I think these things, sometimes we assume, you know, oh, once you've conquered that or you've gone through it or you've gotten yourself to a good place, like you're done with that now. Or, or maybe you feel like I should be done with that now. Like, didn't I heal from that? Isn't that over? Like, aren't I better now? Like, I've even talked about this on my podcast or shared this or taught I've taught clients how to do it for themselves. Like, why would I be having these thoughts again? And just kind of normalizing that these things are usually stuff that we're going to work on for the rest of our lives. And it's not like you're healed and done and fixed per se, but you're constantly becoming a better version of yourself. And when those things come back around for you, you're going to approach them in a different way. So the way that I'm approaching the negative body image days now are so much different than what I was doing when I was in college or in those earlier years when I would just try and like force myself into a transformation. So I think that's really the growth is not in do I never have these thoughts again? It's in can I meet them as a different version of myself and can I act upon them in a different way, in a more loving way, in a more grounded way? In a less, like, desperate, I need to fix myself sort of way. So yeah, maybe there's someone out there that needed to hear that. So I just thought I would share with you guys. Thank you so much for tuning in to the podcast. I love you guys so much. If you want to leave us a rating or review, those are always super, super helpful.
