MONEY SERIES: Unpacking 8 Problematic Money Beliefs
7 Apr 2021 · 40 min
In the final episode of the Makeshift Happen "Money Series," host Samantha Daly blends personal storytelling, promotional content, and mindset coaching to expose eight common limiting beliefs about money and offer ways to rewire them. The episode opens with a reminder that her four‑week course "Cosmic Cash" is now open for enrollment, followed by a vivid personal anecdote about an infected ingrown toenail that forces her to confront her own "do more to get more" mentality and illustrates the lesson of slowing down to create flow. She then systematically presents eight problematic money beliefs—scarcity mindset, the myth that hard work and sacrifice are the only path to wealth, the idea that money corrupts people, the belief that wealth is available to others but not to oneself, the comfort‑zone belief of merely having enough, the claim that money can’t buy happiness, the YOLO spending without structure, and the fixed‑mindset "it is what it is"—explaining how each operates subconsciously, why it’s limiting, and how to shift toward more empowering perspectives. Interspersed are promotional spots for the "Sold Out Stories" Instagram story‑selling framework and calls to action for her newsletter, journaling prompts, and listener giveaways. The episode concludes with a positive affirmation that abundant wealth enables greater positive impact in the world and a final invitation to join Cosmic Cash.

So this is your, your one shot, your one opportunity. So just wanted to throw that out there. Also, I will say I wanted to give a little update because I was thinking about putting this on stories, and then I was like, it's— I'm— I know myself, and I know I'm just gonna ramble, and then I'm gonna have to add captions to all these stories, and I just don't have the energy for it right now. So we're gonna do a little like story, quick story time right now. So I'm podcasting from my bed, and I never do this. Like, I was like, can I even do this? Is my mic even gonna like be able to stand up? So I never podcast from bed. I know a lot of people do. It seems really cozy and comfortable, but I really like to have like a table and a space. But whatever, I'm in my bed because I am in so much pain right now that I just— I don't even know what to do with myself. Like, so here's what happened. Basically yesterday I was on Instagram and I was doing an Instagram Live, this April vibe check. If you haven't seen it, go watch the video because there was actually tons of amazing energy and content in that, in that live stream. And we talked about what the energy is going to be for the rest of the month of April moving forward, and, you know, how we're approaching this next phase, quarter 2 of the year. Like, it's basically this whole, like, re-ignition, reinvigoration of your energy and your life to kind of get you motivated to tackle all the things that it is that you're wanting to accomplish. So if you feel like you need a spark. Go and watch that video. You'll see it, um, like pretty recently on my Instagram. It says Vibe Check and it's an IGTV video. So I'm doing this IGTV and like the energy is fire, right? And I'm like, we're going into April with this vibe of like, we are unfuckwithable. Like, universe, throw tests at me, like I'm gonna pass that, like no problem, I got this. Like, old patterns, old beliefs, old thoughts, bye bitch. Like, I'm a whole new person, yada yada. Like really like confident energy. So then, which was amazing, and I still feel that way, like I still feel like I'm fucking ready. But later at night when I got home from my walk with the dog, my, my toe was like throbbing. And so I've always been the type of person that like gets ingrown toenails like it's my job, like all the time, ever since I was little, like when I was a dancer like my jazz shoes and my tap shoes and like everything always used to just like squeeze my feet too tight. And like the doctors have even told me, just like the way the shape of my like nail bed and everything is like, I'm going to be more prone to getting ingrown toenails, whatever. So it's usually not that big of a deal, right? Like you kind of like lift it up, you put a little like piece of cotton under it, it like you keep it up for like while you sleep overnight, and then you pull the piece of cotton out and the nail kind of like you know, it starts to grow normally. So also trigger warning, if like toes or feet or something gross you out, like skip ahead. Bye! Sorry, I'll try to keep it super clean and PG. Anyway, my toe's throbbing. I'm like, fuck, I think I have an ingrown toenail. And I think it was like brewing for a few days because we went on this big hike over the long Easter weekend, and we were hiking for about like 3 hours, and Anytime I have to wear like socks and like sneakers or shoes of any kind that are like tight for too long, like I will start to get the feeling of having an ingrown toenail. But then if I like take my shoes off and I'm barefoot for a while, it might like go away. So I didn't really think anything of it the past couple of days, but then last night when we got home from just walking the dog around the neighborhood pretty quickly, I was like, wow, my toe is actually really hurting today. Like it like I might need to like take care of it. So I go into the bathroom and I like pour some hydrogen peroxide on it just to make sure that it's not like infected or anything. It's not, all good, whatever. Um, but then like it starts to get like really red, like it's very like inflamed and swollen and red and really sensitive, and it's like hurting a lot more than it usually— like what I'm used to, what it usually would. I'm like, are you kidding me right now? Like what is going on? So I try to just like ignore it. I'm like, I'm gonna go to bed, I'm gonna try and fall asleep and ignore this pain in my toe. As soon as I lay down and try to go to sleep, it's the only thing that I can think about is my throbbing toe. And even just like the sheet like touching it or like brushing up against it was like, like it hurts so bad. So basically I tossed and turned the entire night. I did not sleep. Like, I did last night— I did not sleep at all. I was awake the whole night, basically doing every breathing technique that I know of, like trying to like use all my mindfulness techniques. I'm doing alternate nostril breathing. I'm like trying to like calm myself down, get into my parasympathetic nervous system. I'm like, why is this— like, it feels like it's overtaking me. Like, it was like a— this giant thing that I just could not stop thinking about, and how badly it hurt. And I was like, it feels like my foot is on fire. Like, it literally feels like— the best way I can describe this feeling that I have still right now, it has not gone away. The, the best way that I can describe this feeling is like, you know when you drop something really heavy on your toe and it like, ah, it's just that like horrible feeling? It feels like that. But like constant, like it, like it doesn't go away. Like that sting feeling when you drop something really heavy on your toe, it's like, it's like someone dropped a brick on my toe or like a cylinder block and then they just like left it there. And now my toe is like trapped under this like super heavy weight that's like basically making me feel like my toe is being so like smushed. And that's just how I feel 24/7 constantly. Like I cannot get away from the pain. And last night, in my like tiredness and just like this, the, the energy last night when I was trying to sleep, I got up at 4 in the morning and I finally took like, um, not like an ibuprofen but like something similar, kind of like a Tylenol, but it's a Spanish medication. So, um, just like a basic like, uh, yeah, little like painkiller. Didn't help, didn't do anything. Literally nothing made zero difference at all. So I spent the whole rest of the night trying not to cry and trying not to wake Jaime up, who was next to me, probably like hearing me. Well, he definitely did hear me because he like kept reaching out and like trying to like rub my arm and like cuddle me while he was like half asleep. It was just like excruciating all night long. So in the morning I was like, I need to go to the hospital. Like, I need to go. I need to go to like urgent care or something because there is something wrong. Like, this is not okay. My foot is on fire. So we, we get up, and Jaime has to go to the office on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so he's like, I'll drop you off, or I'll take you on my way to work. So he takes me to urgent care on the way there, and like, nothing surprising. They're just like, yep, this is like an ingrown toenail and it's infected, and so, you know, I have to put this like cream on it and stuff. And she like The nurse like tried to like squeeze it. I'm sorry if this is so gross for you. Nothing came out. I'm not even gonna say the P word. P-U-S. I'm not even gonna say it because it's heinous. Anyway, nothing came out. So I'm just— I feel like it's like there's so much pressure. It's like a built-up pressure. It's like a volcano inside my toe. Oh my God, if you guys cancel my podcast after this episode, I do not blame you. Um, so anyway, that's what we're dealing with. Excruciating pain. Like, it's actually really bad. It— like, I, I, I'm trying to make light of it. I'm trying to like breathe my way through it, but like, it's actually horrible. And I tried to take a bath, I tried to lay down and rest. Nope. Like, it just gets worse. The, the quieter that I get, the more like restful I try to become, the more that like this monster of a toe just like jumps up and is like, no, it's impossible. You can't think of anything except for how much pain that you're in. So anyway, I feel like, you know, maybe threatening or challenging the universe rather and being like, throw me all the tests. Um, maybe that was like a little bit too cocky, so we're gonna retract that statement. Um, No more tests, please. I don't like this. But I was thinking to myself, I'm like, you know, because this is always my motto, I'm like, how could this be happening for me, right? What can I learn from this, right? What is the lesson? And you might think I'm psycho for trying to create a lesson out of a freaking ingrown toenail, but that's, that's who I am. So I'm like, you know what, this is probably just once again another knock on the head to be like You need to slow down to go faster. You need to slow down in order to like create more, right? Because, and, and I love this because it kind of ties into what we're going to talk about in terms of money beliefs of, because this is a belief that I've had to work through so much in my life and my experiences is this idea of, you know, doing more produces more. So if you want more, you have to be more and do more and show up more and work more hours and work harder and do better and be faster and be stronger and all these things, right? More, more, more, more, more. That is like, you know, definitely a belief system that I hold and that probably many of you do as well. So I'm always being challenged to like allow, allow myself to believe that it gets to be easy. And it's funny because I posted this in my stories yesterday when I was on the walk with my dog before I— right before I got home and realized, oh my God, my toe is throbbing. What the fuck? I posted this in my stories, literally that exact quote, because I was talking about this on the live stream of like, I choose to believe that it gets to be easy. And that's something that I have to continuously choose to believe because I've been taught and programmed to believe that it has to be hard in order for you to get what you want. It has to be hard in order for you to live the life that you want or earn a lot of money or whatever the story is, right? There has to be sacrifice in order for that to happen. And it's like, I don't want— I don't want to believe that actually, because it doesn't actually serve me. And I, and I know from my expanders, from the people in my life that expand my consciousness and allow me to see beyond my own belief systems, I know that it's not true. I know that it does get to be easy and there can be flow and rest and all of that integrated into this process of creating the life that you want and attracting abundance and money and financial freedom and all the other things. So this may seem far-fetched to some, but this is the lesson that I'm taking from my currently, um, on fire right big toe, that it's just like another message for me to like sit back and slow down and do less, right? So that's what I did. I was like, you know what, I said yesterday, bring on the tests because I'm gonna ace that shit. Here's the test. So I'm gonna respond. What am I gonna do? I'm gonna literally clear my schedule. Had, did no work this entire morning. As soon as I got home from the doctor, I just ran a bath. I poured some Epsom salts in there. I chilled. I watched a little bit of Netflix. I tried to take a nap, so I laid down for a few hours. Then I ate some lunch. Like, I nourished myself. Like, I feel like I'm doing what I'm meant to be doing in order to pass the test, but it doesn't mean that I'm not still in excruciating pain. But anyway, that's the lesson. Take it or leave it. Also, if I grossed you out, I apologize in advance. I guess not in advance. I apologize after having already grossed you out. You get the, you get the, the sentiment. Um, but anyway, that's my intro. That's what's happening for me right now. Um, and let's dive in. Like, I'm excited to go over these beliefs because I think they are really relevant, really important. You're gonna resonate with a lot of them, and it's just another way to start building awareness around what we can shift and change so that we can become more magnetic. Let's Let's go make shift happen. Okay, let's just get right into it. So the first belief that is problematic about money that is super common and that a lot of us may not hold consciously, but we do hold subconsciously is that money is scarce or that there is not enough to go around, right? Or that it's hard to come by. And there's an interesting stat that is— I think it's probably a couple years old at this point, so I don't know what the new numbers probably are, but there's a statistic that says there's 1,700 new millionaires created per day in the United States alone, I believe. Let me check my notes because I don't want to be spreading false information to my people. Okay.
So I have something I think you're really going to love and your business is going to love it even more. Do you want to steal the strategy I've been using to seduce premium buyers and sell out my offers on Instagram stories? Chances are you're already posting, you're already making sales, but if your Instagram stories aren't working as hard as you are, you're leaving money on the table. Sold Out Stories is going to teach you exactly how to change that so that you can sell out any offer at any price point. And even high-caliber coaches miss this because selling on stories isn't about how much you post or how frequently you show up face to camera. It's about psychological sequencing. And the way you're posting right now might be giving the premium buyers in your audience the ick. Documenting your day and hoping it builds trust, posting look at me content and calling it authority, sharing client wins as soon as they drop in instead of strategically weaving them into a story selling sequence designed to drive demand and convert sales.
We both know that you're not here to learn how to show up more.
You're here because you know your content could be converting faster and more effectively. Sold Out Stories is gonna give you 5 high converting story selling frameworks built specifically for premium buyer psychology. Inside, you'll get over 6 hours of deep dive video trainings, real IG story breakdowns, and live walkthroughs that show you exactly how to elevate your slides from authority building all the way to offer flow in less than 10 slides. My clients have already been using these frameworks to pull 5-figure sales days while posting less. One client generated 14 premium leads from a single story sequence. Another sold out her event in under 6 hours with just 8 strategic story slides. No sales calls, no paid ads, just the right frameworks. You'll walk away knowing how to sequence for desire, transition into your offer seamlessly, and sell daily without ever feeling salesy.
You already know your offer is incredible, so now it's just time for your stories to sell it like it is.
Grab Sold Out Stories today and turn 10 slides or less into your highest converting content. Let's make your next story your most profitable one yet. Click the link in the show notes below and I'll see you inside.
Yes. Okay, that's it. So this is just like a, a piece of information that can help us counter this idea that money is scarce and that it's hard to come by and that You know, it's not truly circulating, right? Because this isn't just like the millionaires that exist. These are new millionaires. That means there's new 1,700 new people entering that phase in their financial life of becoming a millionaire every single day. And that's not even in the whole world, I don't think. I believe the stat was in America alone. So don't quote me, okay? But you get the idea. I wrote that down once. I don't remember where I heard it. I wish I could source it, but, um, I wrote that down my notebook once because I was like, wow, that's amazing, that's really expansive, and it's such a good counter to this idea that money is scarce. So the idea about money being scarce is interesting to look at because, like I said, a lot of us aren't going to hold this belief consciously, because consciously we can believe or think whatever we want, but it's not going to inform our actions and behaviors the same way that a subconscious belief will. So in the conscious mind, we could be like, no, that makes sense, yeah, like there's probably you know, lots of people making money and lots of new millionaires a day, and money is always circulating, yada yada yada. I get it, I got it. Good, but not good because it's not truly ingrained into our deeper programming yet. And unfortunately, what a lot of us have down in our subconscious mind and our deeper programming is just that, that, you know, becoming rich or having an excess of money is, you know, once in one in a million chance, right? Or it's like very offhand, like it's not the common thing. It's not available to a lot of people. It's only available to a small select percentage of the society. That is just like the, uh, a fact of what most of us have grown up believing. And so what that translate in, in what that translates into is this belief of money is actually scarce and it's actually really hard to have a lot of money. The chances are actually really low that I ever will have a lot of money, right? So this is one to, to question all of these beliefs. If you resonate with them and you feel like, yeah, okay, I feel like that could be something that's going on in my subconscious that's blocking me from attracting the money that I deserve, or, you know, reaching my full financial potential, it's never a bad thing to realize a block, which is something that I, I just want to make sure everybody's clear about when we're talking about these things, these problematic beliefs that may be blocking us or holding back from our full potential, it's never a bad thing to realize that you have them. It's always a positive because it's actually worse to live in ignorance of what's holding you back, right? It's worse for you to move through life on autopilot, not knowing what is going on inside of your mind and how it's controlling your life and your potential and your future and what you're able to create. The same thing is true for when we talk about like self-love and self-worth. Like, it's never a bad thing to realize that you have negative self-talk or that you have limiting beliefs about yourself, because awareness is the first step to change, right? That we're opening the door to start to break down those old identities and become a new version of ourselves by recognizing and actually being able to see, oh hey, This is something that I felt was true for me. This was a belief system for me. This is a thought pattern that I have. So let me look at that more closely. Let me examine it. Let me think about where it came from. Let me ask myself, is it actually true? And more importantly, do I want it to be true for me? Because there's a difference of if it's, if it's a truth for somebody else and if you are perpetuating it and allowing it to be a truth for you. Yeah, I think this is the most empowering thing about beliefs, is that beliefs are just thoughts that we think over and over again until they become a belief, until they become a way of life, until they become a part of our identity, until they become the thing that motivates what we do and what we say and how we act and how we show up. So they're arbitrary. We, we get to choose our beliefs and If you believe— this is kind of like a weird paradox— if you believe that you don't get to choose your beliefs, then you get to keep that limiting belief of what's possible for you. You can keep that, you can have that, like enjoy it, live your life that way. Like, it's not— it's, it's nothing to me if you choose to be like, no, that's, that's bullshit. Like, we don't choose our beliefs, these are facts, things are real. You know, this is just the way that it is. If you feel that way, then you are entitled to feel that way, and you too get to choose to keep that belief system. But I'm going to choose to, to be selective with my beliefs so that they are helping me and actually catapulting me and building momentum for me to create a more beautiful reality that I get to live in. Yeah. So this is the idea around identifying problematic beliefs is not like, shame on you, you have this shitty lack mindset belief about money, take my course. Meh, that's not what we're doing here, right? Like, I hope that's not what this feels like because that's not what it is. I'm trying to help as many people as possible start to open that doorway of like realizing, oh, okay, this might be a real thing that's blocking me, and now that I see it, I can dismantle it. Yeah, as soon as you see it you get to choose to change it and solve it and shift it. And that is empowering. I hope it feels empowering to you. So anyway, I just want to make sure that's clear before we dive into more of these beliefs. I don't want anybody to be listening to this and be like, oh my gosh, like, fuck, like, I have so many bad or quote unquote problematic beliefs about money. That's not what we're doing, right? We're trying to show you the exact places where the work gets to be done so that you get to ascend and move onward and upward and create a better and more beautiful reality based on what you want to believe and what you want to experience. Okay. Just thought that was important to preface. Let's dive into the second belief. So the second problematic belief that I have here, I just, you know, I just did a quick, like, brainstorm. Of course there's more. Of course there's more than 8. Millions, right? But these are the ones that I see very often and the ones that I wanted to share with you guys. So number 2 is that hard work and sacrifice is the only way to get where you want to be financially. And like I said in the introduction, this has been a story for me and my life and for so much— like majority of my clients, probably all of them. It's, it's gonna be a story for a lot of us because we've grown up in this masculine energy, uh, in, in this society that basically glorifies the masculine energy of the hustle culture, like grinding it out, like working hard, like blood, sweat, and tears. Like, you know, that is very glorified and rewarded. So, and this is the, the kind of like corporate culture, right, is like get in early, leave late, like anything you need to do to get to the next level. Like, no one will work harder than me, no one's gonna outrun me or outwork me. Like all that kind of stuff, right? We've all experienced that in our lives one way or another, whether it's just simply through the media or what we see other people doing, or if it was kind of more of an explicit story for you based on what you watched your parents do and how they operated with work and success and career and all those kinds of things. But this one is going to be there for nearly all of us because it's part of the world that we live in, unfortunately, right? Like the feminine energy of receiving and leaning back and allowing things to be easy and being in flow and taking time off where it's needed and having that, that balance, like that is still not seen as, as important as the other masculine counterpart, which is that like hard work hustle culture. Right? Unfortunately, that more free-flowing energy is still seen as a sort of like weakness or not enoughness, right? Or laziness even sometimes. So I'm sure you can identify with this belief of like, hard work and sacrifice is the only way to get where I want to be financially. And so this is one that I have to work on a lot because it'll come up for me, especially when I'm launching a product or you know, I'm selling like a course or something in my business, it's like, okay, you know, here we go. We're going to, you know, birth this thing into the world. So now I have to like do all kinds of work. It's going to be really hard. I'm going to be working all day long. I'm going to be on the phone all day. I'm going to be taking so many calls, I'm going to be doing so many posts, so many podcasts, so many this, so many of that, emails, yada yada, all the things, right? And I have to constantly kind of like remind myself and unravel that limiting belief and be like, you know what? I just know that that's not true. It's not true for everybody, so I don't want it to be true for me because I have expanders in my life, people and women especially that I look up to in business, that I get to see that it is possible to do less and earn more. It is possible to create flow and ease and relaxation in your day and your work schedule and even in your product launches and allow that to actually facilitate be more growth and more purchases and more influx of money, right? So I know that it's— I know that that's possible. I've seen it to be true for others, and now I just have to continuously choose and choose again that it's something that's true for me. And so, you know, it's not just as easy as like, oh, okay, I choose to believe that it gets to be easy, or I choose to believe that, you know, I can have rest and relaxation and not have to work extremely hard and burn myself out in order to get where I want to go. But I actually have to show up for that, right? I actually have to demonstrate that. I have to start acting from that place. I have to take breaks. I have to allow myself to relax. I have to set boundaries with my work schedule and with my clients and when I respond to messages. And this is so relevant in the world that we're in today, especially with people working from home and all of this kind of stuff. Like a lot of times is if you're still working from home, your home has kind of like become your office. And for some bosses and for some companies, unfortunately, they take advantage of that and kind of view it as like you are living at work rather than you are working at home, right? And so they think that you should be contactable at all hours, or, you know, your, your, your break times, your lunch break, or when you get off when you punch out, when you're off the clock, is not clear anymore. The lines are just very blurred. So this is relevant for all of us, whatever your situation is, right? It's not just about like if you're your own boss, like creating space in your life to allow things to be easy, to have fun and flow and enjoyment in tandem with the hard work. This is not to say that that hard work is not necessary at all and you can just like build an empire and create all the wealth that you want without ever working. Obviously not, right? But it's, it's this balance, it's this integration of both. It's this and this rather than either or, right? Rather than thinking like, I have to work so hard and never take a vacation and then I'll earn that vacation someday. That is so toxic. And it's, and it's unsustainable, I think, is the most important thing. It's unsustainable. And this happens to so many entrepreneurs, especially when they're starting out. Um, and you know, they, they just, they want to succeed, they want to grow, they want to create, they want to progress. And so they push, push, push, push, push, push, push, and then they reach a breaking point where, you know, they're working more than they ever were before in any other job that they've ever had. They have more stress on their on their plate because everything depends on them. If they don't create, if they don't show up, if they don't produce, if they don't talk and be on video and write captions and do podcasts and do stories and do all these things, then they're not gonna have any clients and they're not gonna have any money and they're not gonna be able to pay their bills. So if you are an early entrepreneur or you're wanting to do something entrepreneurial, this will be a huge block for you to break down and break through so that that doesn't happen to you or that it doesn't happen to you again. Right? So letting go of the belief that it has to be so frickin' hard and that we have to, like, you know, be in this world where we're only rewarded for hustle and blood, sweat, and tears and choosing to believe that we actually get rewarded when we step into flow and we allow ourselves to receive and we stand back and we say, you know what, I actually recognize that I am not the only person in charge of the, of the reality that I'm creating here. Right? This is the idea of co-creation. It's only co-creation if you allow your co-creator to fucking do something, right? If you are constantly working hard and spreading yourself thin and, and having this sort of like sacrifice mentality to get where you want, what you're actually doing is you're being like that person in the group project that like won't let anybody else do anything, and they're just like taking it over and doing everything. Because they need it to be their way and they need it to be perfect, and they feel like you're only going to get an A if they just do everything. And that's never— like, that's not the group dynamic that is the most successful ever, right? So you're basically saying to the universe, like, yeah, sweet, um, I don't need you, so just sit the fuck down, shut up. I'm gonna, you know, I'm just gonna grind it out until I create it because it all depends on me, me, me, me. I have the control. Wahahaha. Whereas we really wanna be in co-creation. We wanna say, oh my gosh, I recognize that there is something greater than myself. There's this other force in the universe and in the world that can assist me in creating the reality that I desire. So I'm gonna show up, I'm gonna take aligned action, I'm gonna work hard, but I'm not gonna work too hard, right? I'm not gonna burn myself out. I'm gonna leave space for that other energy to come in and hold my hand and take their 50%. And, you know, carry us to the finish line. So that's a really beautiful analogy for you guys, for anybody that has struggled with this belief, as I know many of you will have. Letting go of that and truly stepping into your co-creation is massive. And, you know, this month in my newsletter— every month I send out a newsletter. Well, I send out a newsletter every Monday. So if you're not on my email list and you want to get a little inspiration, motivation, little things from me, little love notes from me, basically every Monday, go ahead and go to my website. I will leave a link in the show notes. It's just www.samanthadaily.com. When you sign up to my newsletter, at the beginning of every month I send out a, a bigger email that has lots of journaling prompts for the month and intention setting and all kinds of juicy goodness. And so the one for April just went out on Monday And there was a prompt in there that was really great, and we did this again on, on the IGTV that I did yesterday about the vibe check for April. We did these journaling prompts, so if you missed the email and you still want to do this month's journaling prompts, that is where you can find them in that IGTV. Um, so there's a prompt in there that was really, really powerful for people, which was something like— I don't have it in front of me, but it was something like What would it feel like if I continued to pursue my goals, but I let go of the belief that it all depended on me and I truly stepped into the co-creation of my dream life and I allowed myself to be guided, supported, and assisted, and I let go of the idea that it was all on my shoulders and it was all up to me and everything depended on me. What would that feel like? So that's a really good question to ask yourself too, and maybe even journal on if you haven't done that yet. If you identify with this belief here of hard work and sacrifice is the only way to get where you want to go in terms of success and money, especially if you believe in the power of manifestation and you're ready to rewire your neural pathways for wealth, but you feel like you don't know where to start or what to do first, you're in the right place.

Okay, I am ranting. As you guys can see, I'm super passionate about these beliefs, but let's Let's speed it up a little bit. We're only 2 deep, so let's start to blow through some of these. The third one is that money changes people and it makes them egocentric or out of touch with real-world problems or real people problems, or, you know, it makes them ungrounded in reality, or it gives them a big head, or, you know, it makes them power hungry. Yeah, all of these things are basically just the belief that money changes people. And if any— if you have witnessed in your life money changing someone, that is likely part of your belief system, even if you know on a conscious level that it's not always true. This is— I can't explain this enough. Like, what you think consciously is not the same as what you believe on a subconscious level. Yeah. So you're not walking around being like, I don't want any money because money changes people. Obviously not. Most of us aren't. Yeah. But if you've ever witnessed that, even if it wasn't someone close to you like a family member, but if it was, even more so. Sometimes we see this, you know, with like big business owners or companies or corporations. You know, we see that they get super power hungry or money hungry, or, you know, they commit crimes or they do awful things in the name of money and profits. So a lot of us will hold this belief to some degree. But if you've experienced this in in your life, like with someone who's close to you, I would examine it even further because it can be stronger that way. But this belief of that money changes people, um, and, and what that really means is like it changes people negatively, right? It's not like, oh, money makes people amazing and giving and generous and beautiful. That's not usually the belief that we're programmed with. Um, that's a great belief to hold if that's one that you want to choose for yourself. But we're talking about this idea of money changes people with that sort of negative connotation, right? Of it makes them think that they're better than others. It makes them do things that, you know, they wouldn't normally have done, or it makes them buy really stupid shit just because, you know, they feel like they can, or it makes them show off, or it makes them whatever. So if you have any level of this belief, it's really kind of telling yourself I don't want to have an excess of money because that would make me a bad person. It would make me— it would deteriorate my, my value or my identity in some way. It would lower me down. Yeah, so this is why it's important, because limiting beliefs can really— if we boil them down, they can really— we can look at them as like such basic, basic formula, right? There's this other belief that like— this is totally separate, but this is just an example. There's this whole other belief when we're talking about like shopping and buying things on sale and like getting a good deal or getting a bargain, where it's like we, we love to tell people that we got a deal on something. And this is what I call being a bargain bragger. And I talk about this in my course. Being a bargain bragger where does that come from? Why, why are we so quick to be— if someone compliments you on something that you bought and you got it on sale, you got a super good deal for it, you like share that piece of information. You're like, oh my God, thank you so much, it was so cheap, $60 from wherever, or you know, it was on sale, 40% off. Like, we love to show and share when we don't pay full price for something because when you boil that down, it's really as simple as this: spending money is bad, saving money is good. When I spend money, I am bad. When I save money, I am good. And so when we are good, when we feel that we have done good, we want to express that and share that. So we're like, yeah, I got it on sale, it was such a good deal, I'm a good person, right? Not overtly, not in our conscious mind, but But just to give you an example of how we can really boil these beliefs down to something so, so simple so that it makes a little bit more sense of why it's damaging to us. Yeah. So this idea of money changing people in a negative way is damaging because you obviously don't want to become a bad person. You don't want to become a shitty person. You don't want to lose people from your life because you suddenly got money and you became different. Right. So that might actually be a thing. Holds you back from, you know, operating from a wealth mindset and setting yourself up to generate more wealth. Just a thought, right? Okay. The fourth one is that wealth is available to others, but it's not available to me. So this kind of goes with our first belief around money being scarce, but it's just another step further, which is like, okay, I understand that maybe money isn't totally scarce, but it is scarce for me, right? Like, I see that, yeah, money is available, wealth is available, it's possible, but it's not possible for me. So if this is something that you feel like, if you ask yourself this question of like, do I really believe that I can be rich? I want you to just hear this question and feel the gut instinct that comes up for you. Feel what happens in your stomach, and in, in your, in your intuitive center when you hear the question, do you actually believe that you can be rich? Are you going to be rich? And there's usually a gut response, and sometimes it's yes and sometimes it's no. But that's where this belief might come into play for you. If you're like, no, like, maybe I would like to, but I kind of feel like, no, I can't. Like, ah, me rich? I don't know, right? So this might be a belief for you then of like, wealth is available to others, it's out there, it's possible, but I don't actually feel like it's gonna happen for me. For some reason, I don't feel like it's available to me. So start to question that, right? Why not? And just ask yourself like, why not me? What are the reasons right? What are the excuses? What are the beliefs and the stories that I have in my mind for why wealth is not available to me? Yeah, and we'll kind of get into this in the last belief, but basically a lot of times we have this complex around what we do for a living or how we grew up or where we live or, you know, our— something about our career or our profession or something like that of like, it's just not possible. Like we're just capped at this place and that's it. And I will address that in the, in the last belief further, but that's something to explore if you feel like you resonate with this problematic belief of wealth is available to others but not to me. Number 5 is this belief of just wanting to have enough or to be financially stable, right? Like, I just, I just want to have enough money. I just want to be comfortable. I just want to be financially stable. And you may be like, well, why is that bad, right? Like, yeah, we want to have enough, we want to be comfortable. The reason that I feel like this is a problematic belief is because I've seen it happen a lot of times where people believe that, you know, they're just— they just need to have enough. That's their goal, right? They're like, I just need to have enough and I'll be good. And so what happens is then they do have enough, but that's all that they ever have because they're like, I just need enough, I just need enough, I just want to be comfortable, I just want to be stable, you know, I just want to be able to cover my bills and do a couple fun things here and there and, and that's it. And so that's, that's what it is, is, is that's it, that's all that they get, right? Money comes in, money goes out. And maybe they get a raise or a promotion, and then they also raise their, their expenses or their lifestyle to meet that raise or promotion. And so no matter how much money they earn, they're actually just always staying in that bubble of having enough to be comfortable, right? They're never living in excess because they've created a system of beliefs for themselves that like, I just need to have enough, I just need to be comfortable. And so that is what they receive at every level, right? It's not like this is X $6,000 a year is enough, and that's what they get. No, they will just have enough in relation to how much they are earning, right? It's always— enough is always relative to where you are in your personal circumstance. But if you believe that you just want to have enough, then that's what you will experience, and you'll continue to buy different things or have different subscriptions or have, you know, increased bills or do different things so that always at the end of the month you're always just kind of left with this like shallow pool of like, yep, we're not drained, but like we're also not in excess. We're just in enoughness. So that's a, that, that, that's a big one, especially for, you know, people, young people that are working jobs, or they've been working jobs for several years and they're starting to kind of like get promoted or get pay raises. If you find that like you're earning significantly more, or even just a little bit more than when you started, but you feel like you're still at the same level of of like what you have left over, in a sense, that will be a big one to question for you of like, hmm, maybe, maybe, maybe somewhere, somehow I do think that I'll always just have enough, but I'll never be in excess, right? Like me, for example, growing up, I always knew that I would have enough. I never feared that my parents wouldn't be able to provide for me or that there wouldn't be a meal on the table or that I wouldn't be able to have school supplies you know, like I always knew that there was going to be enough. But because of the environment that I grew up in and living in a, in a town where there were a lot of affluent people around me and a lot of my friends and peers, their families had a lot more money than we did. I started to probably create this belief because it was unconscious, right? Of like, I'm always going to have enough. I'm always going to be good to go. I'll be all right. I'll be set. I'll be safe. But I'm also not rich. I'm not one of them. Yeah, I'm just— I'm here in this, like, we're, we're, we're doing the thing. We're kind of like, you know, running in the same circles as the rich people, but we're not the rich people really, right? So maybe that's something that you can relate to. Maybe you had a similar experience or not, but just start to kind of question those things for yourself. What number are we on? 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. Number 6. Okay, this one is— don't, don't, don't shoot the messenger, okay? This one is that the belief that money can't buy happiness. And I, again, I talk about this in my course, and it's not that— it's not that, that I'm saying money can buy happiness. The reason that I think money can't buy happiness is a problematic belief to hold is mainly because you are likely creating a belief system that says, I don't need money to be happy, while simultaneously living in a way that screams, oh my God, if I could just have more money, I'd be so much happier. Right, like, isn't that just so true? Anybody that says like money can't buy happiness, it's almost like they're— it's almost like it's like a facade, or it's like this lie that they're telling themselves to feel better about the deeper belief, which is that you actually don't think that you can attain that level of health or money. Whoa, let that shock your mind for a little bit, right? So let me repeat that again. The reason that I think the belief money can't buy happiness is problematic is because you're creating a belief that says I don't need money to be happy, while likely— again, this is not everybody— but while you're likely simultaneously living in a way that screams is, oh my God, if I could just have more money, I'd be so much happier. So your belief is actually that money would make you happier, but because you feel that you can't attain it, you'd rather perpetuate the idea that you don't need it. And if that resonates for you, like, just let that sink in for, for a minute. Money definitely doesn't buy our happiness, but it does give us opportunities to create greater happiness. This is like the way that Chris Harder frames it, is money— money is— well, money is a tool, right? And money is a tool that creates opportunities for happiness and joy. Yeah, and if there are circumstances in your life or challenges that come your way and you don't have the money to face them or solve them or fix them, it can be detrimental to mental health, and it can be super stressful and scary and overwhelming, right? But when we have the finances to be able to face those problems and be like, you know what, it's just a material thing, or it's just a car, or it's just a washing machine, or it's just, uh, whatever, we can fix it, not a big deal, more money's on its way, we'll be set. We get to create more opportunities for us to live in ease and flow. So money isn't the source of our happiness, but it certainly helps us create more opportunities for it and kind of move through things that may otherwise destroy us if we are in a place of, um, yeah, like scarcity or, um, just not having enough, right? Like, those types of little things can really be detrimental to, to anyone if you, if you, if you can't figure it out, if you can't make it work, if you can't solve the problem, if you don't see the solution, right? So money is a tool. Always. It's just a tool. It's a beautiful, beautiful tool, and it's a tool that everybody on this earth needs. Unfortunately, it's the currency of the world that we live in, and our life really does depend on money. So that's why we need to be so extremely careful with what we choose to believe about it, because it is so influential in our lives and our futures and our potential. Number 7 is this belief of sort of, what's the point of earning money if I can't spend it, right? And this is kind of for anybody that has that sort of YOLO energy with money, which is like, money comes in, money goes out. I get paid, I go shopping, right? What is the point of earning money if I can't spend it? Like, I want to spend it, I want to buy stuff, I want to have stuff. I'm gonna die. You can't you might take money to the grave with you, right? This is all the same energetic, the same belief system. And in some ways, this is great because you are adopting the idea that what we talked about in a previous episode of this money series of how money likes to flow, and we actually have to let it flow. We have to spend it. We have to allow it to move away from us so that more can come back and move towards us. So in, in that aspect, it's great to spend money. But sometimes people who have this, this belief really deeply ingrained, along with other beliefs that kind of make them super loose with their money, is they have a lot of the flow and they don't have any structure. And money needs both, right? We want to, we want to integrate, and with everything in life, we want to integrate the masculine and the feminine, right? The feminine is flow, the masculine is structure. When you combine both of those things, you create magic, especially when it comes to money. So if you're good at spending, maybe what you're lacking is some sort of structure of where your money flows into, right? Does it have a purpose? Does it have a designated place? Is it taken care of? Is it being sent to your savings and to your investments and then, you know, being utilized in a really specific way? Is there a framework? Is there a scaffolding? For your money to flow into? Or are you just like a pocket with a hole in the bottom of it where you're like, flow, flow, flow, and it's flowing in and it is flowing out? So that's why this sort of like YOLO energy of what's the point of earning money if I can't spend it can become problematic if there's no structure to also support that massive outward flow and to create more inward flow as well. And the last problematic belief of them all is this idea of it is what it is. This is just, this is just what it is. This is who I am. This is what I'm able to achieve, and that's it. Yeah, so this is like the fixed mindset versus the growth mindset. When we get stuck in the fixed mindset, we are living from a place of believing that we cannot change, that we cannot make new decisions. That we cannot take new paths and that we cannot adopt new identities for ourselves, right? We have this, this constructed identity of who we are and what we're capable and what we're good at and what we're not and what we can achieve, and that's just it. And it just is what it is. And because I'm this way and I have this job and I do this for a living, this is just— this is my cap and this is how it is. And, you know, we, we get to choose if we want to buy into that or not. I can't stress that enough. Like, that a lot of times that belief really is coming from a place of fear because it's like, you know, maybe in my current job, in my current company, or even in my current industry, I am sort of capped, right? Because this is the industry standard and I, and I really don't see a way to rise above that. And maybe that's true, but like, you get to choose to stay there. You get to choose if you— if that's— if that's good enough for you and that's acceptable for you and that's all that you want. And if it is all that you want, then you're allowed to just want that, right? You— no one ever needs to want anything because someone said it on a podcast or whatever, right? Like, you get— you get to listen to your own authentic desires, right? I'm not telling you like you need to want more than what you have because it's not enough. No, but I know there are a lot of people that are sitting in the victimhood of this is just— it is what it is and I can't do anything about it. But it's like, you could, but you're probably just paralyzed by fear because that would require a lot of change for you. It would require a lot of uncertainty. It would require stepping outside of your comfort zone, trying new things, going back to to school, learning a new skill, starting a business, quitting your job, moving to a new company, like trying out a new role, having a conversation with HR, like it would require discomfort. So that's why it's easier for us to believe like, oh, it just is what it is. And that's why this belief is problematic in my point of view, in my experience, right? And I do just want to say like this, we have to recognize guys, if you're listening to this podcast, you are likely a person in the world who has privilege over others. Me, myself, as a white woman, I have— you know, who grew up in a middle-class family in America— like, I have so much privilege, and I've been able to achieve what I've been able to achieve because of that privilege. And we can't discount that that is a real thing. So I don't want anyone to misconstrue what I'm saying and think that, you know, oh, you should stop believing that it is what it is and just like work harder or do better, even though you may be facing racial injustice or poverty or whatever, right? I hope if you're listening to this podcast and if you know me, that you know that that is not my message, and I don't want anyone to think that it is. So those things are very real, and it's a different situation than what I'm speaking about. About, right? The woman that I'm speaking to is the woman who has privilege, recognizes her privilege, and also wants to learn and grow and evolve and do better and create more so that we can actually help the world that we live in, right? And this is one of the things— I guess we'll close with a really beautiful belief about money on top of all these these problematic ones is this beautiful belief about money that I really, really and truly hold and have adopted is that the world is a better place when good people have lots of money. And so the world gets better when you earn more money, because if you are a conscious human being with empathy and compassion in your heart, you will be able to create massive change when you have more wealth and more abundance and more access, right? We're able to do more for the people in our lives and we're able to help the, the people around us more when we have more to give. We're able to donate more, we're able to create more impact, we're able to help a broader audience of clients if you're an entrepreneur. And help them change their lives and evolve their mindsets and become better, more emotionally regulated humans with more compassion and the ability to manage their triggers. And like, we just— we get to create such a ripple effect when we are in our own abundance. Because when you feel abundance, you feel lit up, you feel excited, you feel joyful, you feel happy, you feel generous. And that energy even if you don't donate a dollar to a charity, you still make change because that energy ripples out to the people in your immediate circle and it inspires them and it makes them feel happy and joyful. And that energy ripples out to the circle outside of them and out and out and out and out and out, and we create this massive ripple effect of people who are living in joy who are living in fun and flow and abundance. And the world would see— like, if you just think about this, the world would seriously be such a better place if more people were less hurt and disempowered and they were more loving and joyful and abundant. Don't we agree? Right? So when we create more abundance and more wealth for ourselves, we're able to create more impact and help the world on a greater scale. And of course, you know, donate to causes that inspire us and, and help charities and create bigger impact in that way too. So if, if you missed this post on my Instagram and this last bit that we're talking about is resonating with you, there's a couple of posts back I posted something that says Reasons to Be Rich, and in the caption there's a whole bunch of reasons of why being rich— you specifically being rich— makes the world a better place. So if you feel inspired by that belief but you don't fully buy into it yet, or you want to lean into it more, go ahead and find that post on my Instagram and read through all of those reasons for you to be rich to just help you gain a new perspective of why it is important for conscious people to create abundance for themselves. So I hope you guys find this helpful. If you did, screen— screenshot this episode, share it to your stories, tag me at Samantha Daily and at Makeshift Happen Podcast.
