Ads are coming to AI Mode

Google Ads is shifting to AI-driven "AIo" mode to handle long, conversational searches. Static 30-character headlines won't work anymore. Google is rolling out AI-generated formats like highlighted answers and conversational discovery ads that match different user intents dynamically.

So we all know that ads are going to be coming to AIo mode for Google Ads, and this is going to be the reason for why the vast majority of businesses will need to switch over to AI Max. Now, one thing I do want to stress that right now, as of June 2026, I'm not actively using AI Max. We're still doing some internal testing. And the core reason for that is because as we speak, even though ads in AIo mode are technically available, they are appearing on a very, very small percentage of searches. And the reason why we know that is that when we go and do manual searches. We're just not seeing those ads active inside of AI mode, but that will change very, very soon. And this is why businesses need to fully understand why they are going to have to move across to AI Max. You can't have ad copies with pinned headlines, or even if they're unpinned, like 30-character headlines, to be relevant to an AI conversation that might have an initial 30 or 40 words in it and then 3 or 4 follow-up questions. And that's where these ad formats, especially around the highlighted answers and also the conversational discovery ads, are going to become really, really important. And let me give you a real example of what I've been thinking about since attending Google Marketing Live, is that when you look at a product, say for example it's a coffee machine. Now with that one product, there could be 20 or 30 different types of inquiries that you could be coming in. Someone could be really, really interested in the color and the app, the, the, how the machine looks. Another person may be really, really interested with the dimensions and someone else may be really, really interested in the technical specifications. And those technical specifications could be, you know, so many different variations of questions. So if you as an advertiser are limiting your ads, like how do you know what headlines are going to best match that conversational inquiry? Especially if there's 3 or 4 or 5 different questions that are coming in. And that's where we are going to need these AI-generated ads. So as I said at the top of this video, please don't go in and change everything inside of your Google Ads account because this is not lived reality right now, but it is coming really, really quickly. And that's why you do really need to start thinking about how you are going to be using AI Max in the future because I do believe it'll become a really, really important feature in the months to come and even in the years to come for some businesses. But if you are using AOmax right now, why don't you let me know your feedback and what you're seeing with the results inside of your own campaigns for your business.
