Right now, if you're looking to set up and run profitable Google Ads campaigns for your business, this is the one video you need to watch. And the reason is, is because in this video I'm gonna be taking you through the step-by-step process that you need to complete in order to not only set up that first Google Ads campaign of yours, but to also make sure that it is also profitable and is actually gonna see extra sales and leads coming into your business. Now, very, very soon I'm gonna be taking you through a screen share of that step-by-step process that you need to follow in order to get that first campaign set up. But before we get there, there are 3 important things that you need to understand about Google Ads as a core basis. And these 3 core points will really help you not only set up that first Google Ads campaign, but also know what to do after you've got that campaign running. Now, the first thing, and this is the one thing that I love about Google Ads, is that it is based on an auction. And that auction is based in most cases on keywords. And the great thing I love about Google Ads, and this is what I've always loved about Google Ads, is that it just doesn't come down to the person who has the biggest budget is always the winner. And that's because inbuilt inside of Google Ads is a factor which is called Ad Rank. Now, in the description below, I am going to include the, the full information about Ad Rank if you do want to go through and read it, because there's 6 different data points that Google uses in order to calculate this Ad Rank. But the core thing I want you to understand about Ad Rank is that it's all about making sure that your ads and your landing pages are relevant to the user's initial search inquiry. Now, right now in 2026, the reason why I said search inquiry, not search keyword, because this is changing at the moment as people are starting to use more and more conversational-based search. But it's still the same principle in that what Google wants to do is it doesn't only want to match the best ads, but also the best landing page or website to the user's initial search inquiry. And if you can always keep that as your core goal, you're always gonna be well placed to make sure that you've got the first foundational step for success with Google Ads. Now, when we get into the setup, we will talk a little bit more about structuring your Google Ads campaigns. But at the moment, I do want you to understand that Google Ads is built, built on an auction, and it's all about relevancy, really making sure that Google has that ad copy and landing page which are relevant to the user's initial search inquiry. And the second thing that I need you to understand about Google Ads, and this has got to do with your landing page again, is that you do need to understand that when it comes to Google Ads, that having your Google Ads account or your campaigns set up in the right way is only one of the core three areas that you need to get right for success with Google Ads. Yes, you do need your Google Ads campaigns set up in the right way, but you also need those ads going to a landing page which is a high-converting landing page which also does have an offer that sells. Too many people, when they start Google Ads, they start to see that people are going across to their website and then they're not converting, and they're very, very quick to blame Google because they can go in and see clicks are relevant to the search terms, they're going across to my website, but they're not converting. And quite often the reason actually has nothing to do with Google Ads. It's got to do with the landing page and the offer. So you do really need to make sure that you're going through and analyzing and testing your landing page and also your offer to make sure that it's priced right and also to make sure that that landing page is communicating the right messages so that people are actually converting. And the third thing that I really want you to understand as a core foundation for success with Google Ads, I want you to remember what I call the Google Ads success loop. Now, when you press go on your first Google Ads campaign, it's highly likely that you'll get clicks on that very, very first day, but the conversions may not come in right away. And that's because you need to remember this Google Ads success loop. And what the Google Ads success loop is, is that you go through and you review your initial data. You then make some optimizations, but then you need to wait and you need to wait to collect new amounts of data. And sometimes you need to wait 2 or 3 weeks for, for example, ad copy split testing to come in. If you're changing things around, like with your bidding strategies, that could be sort of 30, that could even be up to 60 days before you're seeing some different data trends coming in and emerging. And that's why I want you to remember the Google Ads success loop. Analyse your data, make your optimisations, then wait for new data to come in, and then you make your next round of optimisations. The other thing that I do want you to remember is just think about your own buying patterns. You know, how many times have you gone through and clicked on an ad and left a product in the checkout cart for sometimes, you know, 3, 4, or even 7 days? Or other times you've done some initial research and then you haven't gone through and actually run that business for 3 or 4 or 5 days later. So just because someone has clicked on your ad and hasn't converted today doesn't mean that they're not going to convert. So that's why you do need to allow Google Ads some time in order to get those valuable conversions and sales for your business. All right, so with all of that said, we're going to jump into that screen share so I can take you through the step-by-step process. But as I said, after you set up your initial Google Ads account, you are going to need some help with optimizing your Google Ads campaigns. And there's two ways that we're going to go through and help you with this. The first one, you can actually get access to my Google Ads optimization tools, and these are tools which run in either Claude or Gemini, and they help you go through and analyze your Google Ads account and, and really show you where you're wasting money and where you could better spend your money. And if you want access to that free tool, all you need to do is to follow that link in the description below. And when you're in that description below, you're also going to get some extra information about our Google Ads Mastery program. And inside of Google Ads Mastery, you get full access to not only the full versions of those tools, you also get live daily support with me and my Google Ads coaches. We also run weekly live calls, and you also get full access to a full 13-hour Google Ads course, and you get all of that for under the cost of a coffee per day. So if you are serious about Google Ads, I do highly recommend that you also get started with Google Ads Mastery so that we can be there every step of the way. If you want more information about that, as I said, just follow that link in the description below. But right now, let's jump into a screen share so I can walk you through the step-by-step process of setting up your Google Ads campaigns in the right profitable way 2026. Let's go. All right, so when you want to get started, if you go and just do a quick search for Google Ads, and then you can click through on this button, and it's going to bring you to this launch page for Google Ads. Now, if this is the first time that you are running Google Ads, I do also want you to know that you can also get some initial value deals with Google Ads. This is different depending on what country, uh, you are based in, but right now in Australia, you can see through here Generally, it's if you spend a certain amount, you will get that amount back as a credit inside of your account. And as you can see here, right now in Australia, it's ranging between $600, $1,200, or $1,800. And it is important to note that you do need to first spend that money. And when you do spend that money, they then give you an additional credit on your account. So, so it is really important to know that, that you do need to make sure that you hit that initial spending target. And there is, as you can see, as you can see, it needs to be done in the first 60 days. So just make sure you do go through and read the terms and conditions in that. But if you are starting with Google Ads, it is a great offer to definitely take up. This is your first time setting up a Google Ads campaign, you do need to go to the Start Now button. And now you can see here, because we've got other Google Ads accounts, we are coming up with an option where we can select other accounts, but you will just generally see a new Google Ads account. So I want you to go through and click that option. And we're going to go through and create a new account. Now Google has gone through and slightly changed this process, so I'm going to take you through this process, and it is in some ways a little bit easier to do, but you do need to be careful because there are a lot of automations that Google is going to automatically go through and set up for you. So what we're going to do, we'll go through this in a step-by-step process, and then I'll also just take you through the process of how you can go through and quality control to make sure that everything is set up correctly. We are going to be setting this up for our villa resort in Bali, and we've also done our keyword research already, as you can see from here. And we've also got our ad copy ready to go. Now on this, I am going to— in the description below, I am going to let you know how to go through and complete our keyword research and also how to write the best ad copies. And the way that I'm going to do that, there is actually a playlist which is called Get Google Ready, and this is a playlist which takes you through all those extra moments, all of those extra elements that you need, including your keyword research and ad copy. So in this video, we're just going to assume that you've already got that ready to go. If you don't, you can go through and just go through this process, and then you can come back and add in extra keywords and ad copies. So don't need to stress. But I did want to also let you know that if you did want extra information, there is going to be a full playlist taking you through how to also do your keyword research and your ad copy. So what we want to do through here is that we are going to create our first campaign. And what you do for it through here is that we're going to create— we've copied the website URL and we can also put in the business name. You don't have to do that, but I think it's a good thing to put in the business name in through there. Then go through and click next. Now if you wanted to, you could also go through and put some extra information about how your business is unique. We can set this up later, so we're just going to remove that. But what we are going to do with the specific products or services, you don't want to make this really, really broad. You want to put this really, really specific. So for us, we're going to put this— we've got our keywords in through here. Which is our 1-bedroom private pool villas and 2-bedroom private pool villas. Now I'm going to remove these recommendations, and the reason being is because when we go through and create our ads, we'll put the exact URLs that we want to use. So then from there, you can just go through and click Next. You don't need to, you don't need to connect your YouTube channel or your Google Merchant Center unless you're an e-commerce brand. If you are an e-commerce brand, as I said, go through to that other playlist now that's in the description because that'll run you through through how to set that up. Once again, with your Google My Business profile, you could set that up, but for the purpose of this, we're not going to set that up now. And then we can just go through and click Next. Now I do highly recommend that you do go through and set up a Google Analytics account. Um, once again, it's one of those things that the reason why you want that Google Analytics set up is because we want to see what happens once people get to your website. You don't need it to run Google Ads, but it is something that is highly, highly recommended in order for you to set up. And then we are going to go through now because we've already got this linked, we don't need to do that. So we're going to go through and click Skip. Now when it comes to choose the goal for this campaign, these are some of the things that you, you don't need to put it in there, but I do recommend that you do select this option. And the reason being is because then it's going to self-guide you through some other options. Now The one thing we are doing is we're going to say that we need a lead form submitted. And what we're going to do is we're going to put the actual URL that people need in order to— for this form to be completed, which is our contact page. If you wanted to use a phone call lead, you can do that. The one thing you do need to make sure is that the phone number that you're wanting to set up does actually also need to be visible on your website. And once you've got that set, from there you can go through and click next. Once again, right now I would not be too, be too stressed about that, is because you can go through and set up the conversion tracking at a later date if you did need to do that. Or you could set up this campaign, go on and set up the conversion tracking. You do need to make sure that you do have some level of conversion tracking set up before you start your first Google Ads campaign. And then it's going to come through and start taking you through this process of how to set up your first Google Ads campaign. Now you may get some different screens here, but what I want you to go through and check— you can see up here in the left corner that Google has gone through and set this up as a Performance Max campaign. We don't want to set that up straight away. We want to go with a search campaign. So somewhere in on your screen you'll see this option or view other campaign types. If you click on that, and we are going to go through and select a search campaign. Now I do like Performance Max campaign as a campaign type, but the reason reason for why we're going to start with search is that when it comes to Performance Max, we see that as a secondary campaign. Performance Max campaigns are really, really built to generate more conversions, but we want to use search so that we can be a lot more specific with our targeting types. Also, Performance Max goes through and runs your ads on the Discover Network, uh, YouTube, display, all of those different networks, and we just purely want to focus on search so that we can get our messaging right, and we can also really find out and get that real connection of this is what people search, this is the ads that work best, and these are the landing pages that work best. So make sure you go through and click on that See Other Campaign Types, then go through and click Next. So we've selected Search, and this is where you then need to go through and add in your, your keywords. Now, as you can see from here, Google has gone through and just dumped every— all these different types of keywords in here. You need to be really, really careful For example, Google's put in 4-bedroom villa Seminyak, 3-bedroom villa Seminyak. For us, we only have 1 and 2-bedroom villas, so I do not recommend you using all of these keywords. The other thing from there is that Google's got things like cheap villas in Bali. These are all the things which are not really relevant for— that don't, don't see that just because Google has recommended it that these are all going to be relevant for your business. So I go through and delete these. The other thing that we're looking at in through here, we're going to be breaking this down into 2 separate ad groups. And what these ad groups are based on, these are based on our 1-bedroom villas and our 2-bedroom villas. Now, this is one thing you do need to be thinking about when you are creating the structure for your Google Ads campaign. So there's two options here. We could run these in separate campaigns, or we could run them in separate ad groups. Now, the reason for why you want them in separate ad groups and not— and for us, why we wouldn't lump 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom in the same ad group, is because for us, these are two very different types of buyers. The 1-bedroom villas are people who are traveling without kids. Two-bedroom villas have a lot of families coming in. So we could also separate, separate that out into separate campaigns. But for the purpose of this example, we're going to set that up as one campaign with two ad groups. One ad group for one-bedroom villas, one ad group for two-bedroom villas. So we're first going to set up our ad group for our one-bedroom villas. The way that you do that— so we're going to get our URL here. So we're copying that and we're going to enter this into the final URL. Now one thing that I do recommend is that you don't want this going to your home page. You want these ads going going to the most specific or the most relevant landing page for your buyers. And now remember what we spoke about at the start of this video. For success with Google Ads, it's all about matching that search terms with the best ad copy and the best landing page. Remember what I said in— for this business, the 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom villas do have different buyers. People traveling without kids, people traveling with kids. We've added in that URL, and then we're going to go through and put our keywords. Now we've gone through and put here our keywords. Now it's important to note that when it comes to Google, there's actually 3 different types of match types that you can use for targeting in your searches. We've got exact match, we've got phrase match, and we've got broad match. Now without getting too much, too technical in this beginner video, what we really recommend is right now we recommend that you're running with 2 types of keyword match types, which is exact match and Broad match. Now, historically, you may have heard some people, you know, don't use broad match, but the reason why broad match is going to become more and more relevant is that as we're moving into more conversational style searches with AI mode and AI overviews, Google doesn't match specifically by the actual keywords, it matches the meaning. So with our broad match keywords, we're going to keep that as our broad match keyword, which is our longest one, one bedroom private pool villa Seminyak, because that gives Google the most context on what we're actually looking at targeting. What I've also done through here is you can see here I've put these brackets around there. That signals that that is going to be an exact match keyword. So we've got 1 broad match keyword, 3 exact match keywords. Now eventually, as we go through and optimize our Google Ads campaigns, we're going to go through and these aren't going to be the only keywords that we're going to use. We're going to build this list. We could pause some of these. We could go through and change our broad match keyword structure, but that's what we're going to start with for our first round of testing. Now Google is going to give you some different options. It's, it's wanting you to run everything as broad match. You don't need to do that. And it's also going to recommend some extra keywords. But remember, they were the keywords that weren't relevant for our business. Then you can come through and change our settings. Now for us, we're actually running this for the Australian market. So you can put any custom locations in there. So you could go through, you can tailor this down to zip codes or postcodes. You can also tailor this down to city or states, but we're going to run this Australia-wide. And when it comes to the location options, you do— you need to be really, really careful that Google is going to be setting this to presence or interest by default, and we want to change this to presence only. And this one is really, really important, especially if you're running a local service-based business and you only want your ads to appear to people who are in your current area. If you have presence or interest, it can— as it's saying, it can be included to anyone who's shown interest in your locations. Then now when it comes to languages, I do really recommend that you're only using one language per campaign. Now with audience segments, I do recommend that you do go through and add about 20 to 30 different audiences when you're starting your Google Ads campaign. But it is really, really important to note that what you're, what you're going through here is that you are only doing this as observation. So we are not going through and adding this as So we're not going through and only targeting these people. So we'll also put Bali. Okay, so I can go through and select more there. You can see I've started with 16, but what I do want to let you know as well is that we are only doing this as the observation method. Now the benefit of this is that when you start to see some of the videos about how we go through and optimize Google Ads campaigns, We're just saying that to Google, please give us this information because it's going to allow you to then go through and create some different potential targeting options later down the track. Now Google by default is going to select you to go into the Google Search Partners Network and also the Google Display Network. I unselect both of these. Now the reason for that is because when it comes to the Google Partners Network, this goes into other, other networks outside of Google Search. So as you can see from here, it can include hundreds of non-Google websites, parked domains, as well as YouTube and other Google sites. Now, Google has gotten better about increasing the quality of this, but especially with the parked domains, that's not somewhere where we want your ads to appear. And when it comes to the Google Display Network, I do like image ads as a strategy for Google Ads, but if we're going to be running image-based ads, I want that to be an individual campaign where we've got control of the creatives. Because what happens a lot here is that Google is grabbing image— images from your website, or they're doing text-based ads in a Display Network. So essentially, it's also important to note here that Google is doing this if there's any leftover search budget. So it's generally lower quality traffic that Google is going through and targeting. So what we're doing from there is that we're unselecting both of those options. Then we go through and click Done. And we want to go through to next. All right, now Google is coming through and asking us to create the ads for our business. So what we need to go through and grab again, as you can see, Google by default has just put it to our URL— sorry, put it to our homepage. But we want to put this to this specific landing page for our most relevant product or service. And then we want to go through and create our headlines. Now, as I've said through here, we've already got our headlines, which have already gone through and created. But I do just want to talk to you a little bit about the 4 key elements that you need for successful headlines in Google Ads. Now, the first 2 people will generally get right. And what that is, is that you do wanna have a keyword focus. And what we mean by that is that you do want people to see in your ad something, a headline that is relative to what they searched about. So in this example, it would be in our 1-bedroom villa Seminyak ad group, we only want them to see ads about 1-bedroom pool villas. We don't wanna be having any headlines about 2-bedroom villas because they're gonna be in our other ad group. I do also recommend that you have some level of brand mention. Doesn't need to be in all of your headlines, but for some of these headlines that they do have a brand mentioned in there. Then you want to have a call to action. It's really, really important in your ads that you are wanting them to actually know the exact next step that you're wanting them to complete. In this example, we're wanting people to book online, so we go— or, or to book direct, so to book with us and not a travel agency or not an OTA like Booking.com. So we're going to make that clear on our headline. And then the other thing that you do want to do, and this is the one thing that a lot of businesses miss out on And that is that you want to be building up some level of emotional trigger in your ad copy. You do need to remember that— remember, people buy on emotion. Now, at the start of this video, I spoke about our Claw tool, which we use to help us analyzing our Google Ads search terms. But there is also an extra tool in there. There is also an extra tool in there which can help you write your headlines. And what it actually does do, it actually goes out and looks at Reddit forums, or in this case TripAdvisor forums, to find users' pain points so that it can help you with writing really, really specific ad copies. Now, we've already done that process, and yes, you can see through here I've got all my different headlines. So I'm going to go through right now, copy some of these headlines and in some of our descriptions into this ad copy setup. So what I've done through here is I've gone through and added 10 headlines. Now you can add up to 15 headlines. What is really, really important to note here, Google will generally only show 2 headlines and 2 descriptions. Now the reason for why we add in multiple headlines is so that Google can start to do some testing on what works best in your ads. Now, one thing I am going to say here is that we do have a really thorough split testing process when it comes to our ad copy. We generally run 2 ads in the same— we generally run 2 ads in the same ad group. But because that's a slightly different topic, I do have some extra training on that, and that is included in that Get Google Ready playlist, which I'm going to show you where you can watch in the description and at the end of this video. So let's move on right now. But as you can see from here, we've got our 10 headlines. Google is only going to show— they sometimes show 3, but in most cases they'll show 2 headlines. We've got 3 descriptions, you can add 4, and Google shows 2 of those. When we're looking at the preview from here, you can see we've got our 2 different headlines and we've got our 2 descriptions in through there. Now there is another element that you can add, which is your sitelinks. Now I do really, really recommend that you add in your sitelinks, and the sitelinks are extra bits of information that run at the bottom of your ads. Now, in this case, what we would run this to is that I would go through and we would run, we would run different sitelinks to our 2-bedroom villas. Even though it's not relevant for the 1-bedroom villa, you might have some people who want to see that information. We'd also run some extra information into our gallery. And also, if we've got any different, like, different location areas or the contact page, you can, or even to book now, you can add all of those elements and in the sitelinks. And what this allows people to do is that they can just go through and click on these sitelinks and go straight through to your ad. You can also add other elements like, like phone call links, and you can go through and add all of these things right now. If you don't add them now, you can add them at a later date. And then with the display path, what this is, is that this is going to appear— this is going to appear at the end of your ad. So we're going to put here 'one bedroom.' And what you can see from here is that by adding in these, this display path, you can see here it's putting 'one bedroom pool villas' in through there. Once again, just helping people to see that it is relevant to what they're searching about. Once we've got all of that, we go through and click Next, and then Google wants us to go through and set our bidding strategy. Now there's a bit of an argument about this right now. For me, I still recommend that you start with a clicks-based bidding strategy, especially if this is the first time inside of your Google Ads campaign or a Google Ads account. Now if you've already got some other campaigns inside of your Google Ads account, I'm happy for you to move directly over to Maximize Conversions. The reason for why I still recommend starting with maximize clicks is because when you move over to maximize conversions, you are going to be paying for a higher— you are going to be paying for a higher CPC. So your cost per click is going to increase. It also, in some cases, we've seen it take about 7 to 14 days before your ads even start showing. That is slightly an extreme case, but it does stay there longer. But what we're really going to achieve, especially over the first 30 days— so I'll move over to maximize conversions once we start getting some regular conversions coming through. The reason why I start with maximize Maximize Clicks is because I want to be testing some important things around my headlines. Which headlines generate the most clicks? Which headlines generate the most conversions? We also want to see some extra data around our audiences and our locations, and we want to see all of this data so that we can then make our best optimization decisions. So as a rule, I love Maximize— I love Smart Bidding, but I still start with Maximize Clicks because we want to get as much information as possible so we can move across to that smart bidding strategy. Then we go through and click next. Then we want to come through and set our budget. Now, when it comes to, to setting your budget, as a bare minimum, uh, because people would generally ask, you know, can I spend $5 a day or $10 a day in Google Ads? It's the wrong way to look about it. What you actually need to be looking for is you need to be looking to be generating at least 10 clicks a day. Ideally, now, in order to get enough conversion data, especially at the start, you would generally need somewhere between 20 to 30 clicks. And the way that you calculate that is you go through— and the way that you calculate that is you go through and have a look at what your average CPC is. Now, this can change inside of a real account, but we know for this business that the average CPC is about $1 to $1.50, $1.50 per click. So we would need our starting budget at a bare minimum to be $15 $15 per day, but ideally it could need to be $30 or $45 a day. So we are going to set a budget at $30 a day. Now it's important to note that when Google does go through and do this budget is that this is, although it is a daily budget, it is set out by an average per month. So there could be some days where you could get up to $50 or $60 in spend, then the next day after that it might be $10 or $20. So Don't watch this daily as a hawk. You do need to go through and really go through and review that budget. Now, Google is saying that that is $3.23. We know that it's closer to that $1.50 because we've done our own research and we did that research and in that Get Google Ready playlist, it's going to show you how you can go through and do that research. So apart from that, we can go through and click Next. And then the next thing that Google is going to do is that Google is going to give Google is going to request that you go through and add in your payment details. So obviously I'm, I'm going to not show you that part because we've got our own credit card details in there. But what I am going to do is I'm going to show you what it looks like once you've got your Google Ads set up so that you could then go through and add in that secondary ad group. All right, so I've gone through and added in my payment details, and you can see you're now coming to a screen like this, and we've got our search campaign set there. Now at the moment, we've only got that one ad group, and this is where we can then go through and add in that secondary ad group. Remember, in this case, we're going to set one for 1-bedroom and one for 2-bedroom. The way that you go through and do that is you can see this new Create Ad Group button. So I'll just go back through here. We've gone through, clicked on the campaign, which takes us through to the ad groups. We then go through and click this new ad group, and it's going to go through and take us through this same process. So we'll go through and we're going to write 2-bedroom villa. And then, as you can see from here, it's the same process that what we went through before. So I won't go through that step-by-step process, but that's the way that you go through and set that up. And that's the full process for setting up your very first Google Ads campaign inside of Google Ads. Now, before we go, I did say that I'd get you to go through and check some things inside of Google Ads. So what you do want to do is that in this settings, you want to go through and make sure that there's a couple of things set right. So we want to go through and make sure that we've got our Google Search Network and Display Network turned off. We also want to make sure that we're starting with Maximize Clicks, and you do also want to make sure that AI Max is turned off. Now, now sometimes Google will automatically go through and turn this on, so we need to make sure that it's turned off. Then we also want to make sure that we've got our locations set correctly. And then from there, we are ready to go through and start advertising in our Google Ads campaign. So thank you so much for joining me. Um, also last thing, if your Google Ads camp— the one way that you do need to check that your Google Ads campaign is turned on, you'll see this little pause button. I did pause it. We can go through and click that enable, and then those ads will start. And that's the process for setting up your first Google Ads campaign. Now, as I said, this is just the first step in your your journey because we do need to make sure that you're optimizing your Google Ads campaigns and that you're staying up to date with the best Google Ads practices.
