Beyond the Pitcher's Mound Ep 1: The Move That Changed It All

Andy Neary left 13 years in insurance to move to Fort Collins and reset his career. He stopped hiding who he was, built a public brand starting in 2014, and used that authenticity to grow a benefits practice, speak nationally, and launch Complete Game Consulting and the Broker Branding Academy.

When Amy and I decided to move out here to Fort Collins, Colorado seven years ago, I looked at it as a chance to start over, create a new chapter in my career. Up until that point, I'd been in the insurance industry for about 13 years. But honestly, I wasn't really myself. Up until that point, I had been living my career through the opinions of others. I had been taking advice from everybody else on what I should say, how I should dress, how I should act. In fact, I can remember.
Sitting at a conference room table in a meeting and being told by my boss that I actually had too much energy. I had to tone it down. And so when Amy and I moved out here and I went to a market where nobody knew who I was, I looked at it as a chance to build my brand, start over, create something that was truly me. And that's exactly what I leaned into, was building a brand that not only my prospects would love, but allowed me to wake up every day, just be myself. And when I look at the insurance industry right now, I see so many advisors who, you know, quite frankly, aren't enjoying what they're doing simply because they're not. They don't feel like they can be themselves. They're a shell of who they really are. You know, when I was early on in my career, I like to keep everything surface level. I didn't want people to really get to know me. I wanted to keep everything business. And what I've realized is today humans buy from humans. And if you're going to get your prospects to buy from you, they have got to get to know you. That is the only way they're going to start liking you and trusting you. And so I made it a point when back in 2014, I was just going to let my audience get to know me. I was going to build my brand and share it with the world. And I have to be honest with you, it is the best decision I've ever made in my career. It has allowed me to, allowed me to build a good benefits practice or benefits book of business. It's allowed me to speak on stages around the country. And it is the reason why I was able to start complete game consulting. And it is the reason why I have launched the Broker Branding Academy. I am working with advisors and vendor partners who just want to show up as their own brand every single day, who want that freedom to know that when they wake up and they're going to go out and do business, they can be themselves, they can build a brand people love. That's not egotistical. That's just the way we do business today. And so I want to share Broker Branding Academy with you. If you're a health insurance advisor or a vendor partner who is ready to build your brand, who is ready to break out of that shell you know you've been hiding in and you want to have a message, you want to have a brand your prospects attract to so you can bring the right people to your life, Broker Branding Academy is for you. And so I invite you to join. I invite you to jump on a call so we can see if it's a fit for you because what you're going to learn in 90 days took me seven years and I couldn't be prouder of the brand I have today. I want to help you build the same. So go check it out. I've got a link in the comments. You're never going to be disappointed. Do yourself a favor, get in the academy today.
