Andy Neary argues sales teams can be fiercely competitive without becoming toxic. He compares it to rugby: intense during the match, then grab a beer together after. Success doesn't have to be zero-sum.
We often just reward performance in this industry at the expense of that high-performing sales rep might also be toxic to the culture. And I actually got some pushback on it. It was interesting 'cause I think people thought I was promoting performance doesn't matter, just have everybody get along, which I said, no, no, that's not the point. I love competition. I love, hey, we're gonna have a rough conversation today. It's like a rugby match, but at the end of the day, we're gonna have a beer together.
Absolutely. You know, Andy, it's about abundance too. It's like it doesn't have to be this zero-sum game all the time.
