Beyond the Pitcher's Mound Ep 2: The Power of Consistency

Andy Neary argues consistency beats talent. He trained daily despite his small stature and made it in baseball, then applied the same principle to business: repeat unglamorous work like marketing and messaging, and opportunities follow.

When people ask me what the key is, the number one key is to success, in my opinion, is consistency. You know, when I look back at my baseball career, as you can see, I'm not a big man. I'm 5 foot 9. I weighed about 170 pounds when I was a pitcher. But when I look back and think about what give me, what gave me the opportunity to play professionally, it was consistency. It was that ability to show up day after day and do the monotonous, boring things that nobody wanted to do. Whether it was hit the weight room, whether it was stretching, whether it was my bullpen sessions, whether it was just putting in the work at becoming better at my craft. That consistency to do that day after day is the thing that elevated my baseball career to the professional level. And I'd say it's the same thing in business. It's that ability to show up day after day. Yesterday could have been an absolute loss. You could have got your ass kicked. But you need to wake up today and know that it's a new game, that you have a chance to play the game all over again and, and you have a chance to go out and get a win today. But it only happens if you are consistent. If you wake up and do the things you need to do every day to be successful, yeah, they're not going to be fun. No one can be Tom Brady throwing the touchdown in the Super Bowl. Not Everybody can be LeBron James hitting the winning jump shot in the NBA Finals. But do you know the work they put in day after day to be able to do that? That's the same thing when you're business. When you look back and you see those presentations, those opportunities that grew business to the next level, that was just the culmination of the consistency you put in day after day. So you know what I work with more than anything on the advice with the advisors and the agencies I work with, is consistency. Yes, we create a brand message their prospects love. We create a marketing plan that is going to help them share that message far and wide. But most important, we work on consistency. If you pump that message out day after day after day, and you do those little things, they ultimately lead to big success. So at the end of the day, the one superpower every advisor needs, every agency needs, is consistency. That ability to show up every day, get after it, and know that today is a new day to win the game.
